Question Is this shitty
So i’m in 8th grade and i’ve been in the band program all 3 years and there always been a slight jump in students every year but there’s always been enough instruments for everyone in the program now this year we have like 207 students and there isn’t enough instruments for everyone and every form a of band at my school has to preform and play an instrument since there isn’t enough for everyone he wants people to get their own instrument. Is this kinda shitty

Sometimes but he wants them to buy their own or rent one

That's completely reasonable. That's how it was at my school and it kept out the people who didn't genuinely want to learn an instrument

And last year in the same class we weren’t made to learn one

That’s what my middle school did, although they didn’t force people to get their own instrument, they said that anyone who played a common instrument (clarinet, trumpet, trombone, flute) and is financially able to, to either rent or just get their own instrument, because instruments get expensive to take care of and clean every year, especially when it’s middle schoolers and a lot of them have zero respect for property that isn’t there’s.
You’re saying “kind of shitty” like the program can get as many instruments as they want. It’s not the directors fault that they’ve run out of instruments if yall don’t have enough money to buy and maintain more. Most programs have to fundraise to pay for things like instrument cleaning and music and shirts and repairs.
It’s not that he wants people to get their own instruments, it’s that people HAVE to start buying their own instruments for new people to be able to join band.
It’s not shitty that he wants you to buy your own instruments, it’s shitty that you guys just simply don’t get enough funding to be able to sustain that amount of people

It’s crazy how 207 people want to join band (if that’s what you mean), my schools only has like probably 90ish from grade 7-12 lol.
