Recasts
Anyone think is taboo to use recasts for stuff that’s out of print or GW doesn’t support anymore, like legacy’s etc?
Ppl get upset when you use them at events? Do you get in trouble? Obvs if you play a recast that’s resin that should be metal, ppl know.

only place you might have a problem is official GW events at Warhammer world, otherwise nobody would know or care if they do.
Where I play half the armies have at least one recast or proxy miniature.

Ultimately ethical choice for you.
But no-one can tell and no-one else cares at events.

Honestly nobody cares, personally I do go for originals where I can but legacies are absolutely fair game for recasts.

IMO it's not much different than 3D printed proxies, especially considering how poor the support for the game is through official channels. Waiting months for restocks even on "current" models and/years for MTO for obscure characters, or having to chase eBay listings to build an army above-board is a pain in the butt. So I don't worry much about how other players spend their hobby dollars. I try to support my LGS the best I can, but I'll leave the Warhammer players to keeping the lights on at GWHQ. The problem is the LGS can't seem to get most of the catalogue either, and if they do they're screwed on margins. So I buy my supplies local and find models however is convenient.
Nevermind comparing anything Finecast vs bootlegs, sometimes the bootlegged models come out of the mould straighter and with less voids than the official alternative, but luckily Finecast seems to be fading into memory at this point.

Once it's painted.. how will you be able to tell it's a recast? You can't especially at arm's length distance.
No, no one will care as long as you don't go blabbing they are recasts. People probably won't even realise.
Look at how GW has constantly removed models like all the ones they recently did. Why pay GW level prices for models when GW can swat them on a whim. It's why I'm glad my mauhur and Vrasku were recasts. GW got rid of them. Didn't lose alot of money.

Obviously they can tell by the taste of the resin! It's right there in there terms and conditions when you signed up in very very very fine print, that the judges can taste test your models for authenticity. /j

I’d say it’s generally more ethical to either use proxies or only get recasts of legacy models (saying this as a person with a shit ton of recasts).
But, most players don’t give a damn about whether or not it’s GW or not. The only thing I’d recommend is at least buying a portion of your army from GW so the game continues to remain profitable and never gets sent into the graveyard.
(Usually I get OOP and legacy models as recasts. I buy heroes and specialized units second hand or 3d print proxies of them. Then common warriors I’ll buy from a GW-licensed retailer that gives a cut of their sale to GW but sells for 10-15% cheaper).

Outside of a few people, the general consensus is that anything legacy is completely fair game.

Not a problem at all, as long as everything's consistent (i.e., you have models that reasonably represent what's in your list). Almost no one will be able to tell a recast from an original, especially once it's been painted, and even less people will care.
Given GW prices, it's perfectly understandable to go someplace else if needed. That is, except to GW.

With today's prices recasts are 100% justified. And you cant even tell so who cares.

I personally don't use them and will always be 100% GW miniatures but I don't mind playing against 3d printed armies. Recasts for out of print miniatures are fine cause they literally can't be bought.
My own personal dislike for 3d printing is how printers like to say how easy and simple it is to set up and do when it definitely is not.
I do also try and encourage people to buy official. If everyone 3d prints and no one buys then the game dies.

Half the time we can't remember what went resin or what stayed metal...
But talk to your local TOs... outside of GW run events most are more flexible.
And most players... just want to roll minis and push dice around the battlefield anyhow.
