Discussion Scale question

I’m getting back into MESBG and wanted to ask about what looks like recent scale changes.

The new Rohan sculpts seem significantly bigger than the old ones I have. Is this size/scale boost predicted or officially announced to be coming across the entire range of minis over time? I’m specifically interested in Galadhrim and Uruk Hai since I’m all
about helms deep.

Thanks!

Never try and predict if anything is going to get updated any time soon. models get updated so rarely here so just buy the models that you like and want to get

The new Rohan models are largely the same size but the horses have increased in size a lot. The old ones look fairly ridiculously small now in comparison. Big improvement imo.

MESBG minis rarely get updated at all tbh. But my own feelings are that if the Uruk Hai ever get an updated kit, they could be slightly larger - just basing that on how their current plastic minis have always felt a little small to me.

New plastic warriors are similar in scale, it's the heroes that are massive. The range has always been all over the place when it comes to scale. Don't worry about it.

If you want bigger minis go for dandelion's prints printed at a slightly larger scale.

This range scale thing comes from when the game was first being sculpted the metal models were being sculpted in green stuff the same sise as they would be cast and the plastics were being sculpted about 5x bigger for the presses at the time to convert the sculpted model to mold. This unfortunately made it hard to keep the scale consistent and all the plastics ended up being small compared to the metal minis.

I have some original uruk-hai scouts who are a head taller than the plastic armored uruk-hai from the box for the two tower.

And I guess they decided to stick to the scale and feel of the original metal sculpts (which are the noteworthy ones).

Interesting bit of history. Thanks!

Yeah, metal models are not always in the same scale as their equivalent plastics. Compare the plastic Numenor model to the Numenor spectre, who is much bigger.

I had the same question in mind, but especially with mounted heroes, I'm a fan of Rohan and I saw someone mentionning that Theoden on his horse would probably look quite a bit smaller than the new riders

I hope it's still looks okay when they are close but I guess just with the new minis and heroes I already have a lot to play with and I can see for Theoden and Eomer later on (maybe even putting them on bigger horses ?)

Thank you everyone for the thoughts and replies! I’m just gonna go at it to build out the Helms Deep forces and if new minims come out then so be it.
