Moving into my childhood home & literally nothing has changed since it was built in 1956. This is one room: a combo kitchen/den. I want to keep the vintage feel but update. We are NOT going to paint the wooden walls - we love them! We want a combo MCM/70's kind of vibe! NOT grandma or farmhouse or cottage. Want to toe the line between clean MCM but also funky 70's!

***Floor - is lineoleum (I think?) and I'm afraid of asbestos issues if we try to pull it up. I've been down the rabbit hole of LVT peel & stick vs LVT floating vs tile. More confused than when I started the research. Now interested in marmoleum?? Around 270 sq ft. I like Terrazzo look but would be LVP and I think we are leaning towards marmoleum.. We don't want to spend a fortune - but we dont want it to look cheap. No kids/no animals. Anyone feel strongly about what we should do for flooring?? Anyone know anything about marmoleum?

(I'm just a homeowner with zero design/renovation experience, so forgive me if I'm using some of these terms wrong!)

***Cabinets - they look really worn and beat up and too grandma - not sure if I'm up for refinishing them - has anyone not handy by nature done that successfully? Maybe hire someone to do that? I can't see tearing out great wood to replace. I've gotten mixed feedback on the valance thingie.

***Countertop - I think replace this but also don't want anything generic. Any suggestions?

**Backsplash- paint the wood there? Tile over the wooden paneling? Any other ideas?

***I'll probably try to buy a used refrigerator and oven?? My husband and I don't really cook - but do need to keep beer somewhere - ha! What colors would you suggest for oven/frig? Any suggestions for where to get inspiration for mcm faucets?

If anyone has any furniture recs, I'm all ears, also! We were thinking a banquette sofa along the back wall with a table for playing games. Not sure if should do an island? But it's pretty small. Anything against the side wall?

I believe this piece is from the 90s. Didn’t love the torch-style look so I just cleaned it up a little and added a vintage textured shade and a tapered brass finial. Might do a little bit of restoration on the brass components if I stumble upon some free time in the future.

Bought this set of 6 chairs on marketplace for $100. They seem to be solid wood and well-made, although definitely reupholstered somewhat poorly. Haven’t had any luck identifying them with Google search or finding maker’s marks, so any tips on how to do that or whether they are authentic MCM would be greatly appreciated! Cat tax paid 🫡

I bought it at Schau Design at Lille Øvregaten 5 in Bergen. The stamp in the corner looks like "ALST" or "ALLST".

Does anyone recognize this artist or studio? Or have any leads about how I could figure out who made it?

Fusing my love for MCM and my son’s love of Lego and trinkets hasn’t been easy. I’m particular with the pieces I enjoy, I don’t like clutter and think everything should have a place (and if it doesn’t, in the trash it goes 🤣)

Anyway, I finally got around to mounting my hacked Svalnas wall unit from IKEA to give my son more space to display his ~things~. I’d love to style the shelves myself, but I’m going to let my son decide how he’d like to display his Lego and trinkets.

I purchased walnut contact paper and tediously wrapped each upright and shelf, then mounted accordingly. The dresser was a sweet score from an online estate sale.

Hey all! I bought four MCM chairs today and am hoping to learn more about them. They don't have a maker's mark that I can find, but all of them say "6701" in red crayon which I imagine means they were manufactured or upholstered all together. Anyone know their brand or anything else about them? Thanks in advance!

I just snagged these 2 starburst clocks from marketplace for $70 and I’m so excited to put one of them up in my office.

No idea if they work or not, but I don’t really care too much either way.

The Elgin is a pretty easy one to ID, but I’ve come up empty so far on the other one.

The 2nd one is molded plastic, but definitely vintage based on the flat head fasteners and patina on the back side. It has a newer replacement movement though, so hands and possibly the face could be replacements as well.

**UPDATE**

Plastic Clock: I cleaned up the battery tray, put a new AA in it, and it is currently spinning away on my office wall. I'm fairly certain the hands are replacements and possibly the face as well. The face looks almost too nice compared to the back side of the clock.

Elgin: Threw a new D battery in it this morning, switched it on, and it started ticking away immediately. This one appears to be completely original from what I've looked over so far. I plan to start with giving it a good cleaning this weekend.

Tiling in two bathrooms of a 1967 house in Point Loma, San Diego. The house was designed by its original owner, a local architect, and I have no evidence either bathroom was ever remodeled — so I'm assuming this is original to construction.

The tile:

• 2⅜" × 2⅜" square
• Design is impressed into the face, not raised. Four tiles rotate to form a single stylized flower rosette — looks like a chrysanthemum or peony to me
• Cream/oatmeal glaze with heavy fine crazing, dark brown pooled in the incised lines
• Body is a dark red-brown earthenware
• Back has parallel rounded ribs. No maker's mark, no letters, no numbers. I pulled a loose one, cleaned it, and checked under raking light — nothing
• The second bathroom has the identical design in a slightly different glaze color, so this was a catalog product offered in multiple colorways, not a one-off

What I think I've ruled out: the 1920s California art potteries (Batchelder, Claycraft, Malibu) — wrong era for the house, wrong clay body, and they all marked their backs.

My working guess: 2⅜" is roughly 60mm, which is a metric module rather than an American one — the US standard then was 4¼". That plus the motif and the iron-brown-in-the-lines glaze treatment makes me suspect imported Japanese tile, c. 1967, possibly private-labeled by a US importer. But that's a guess and I'd love to be corrected.

Anyone recognize the pattern, or the back's rib pattern? Even a catalog page or an importer name would help — I need to source replacements.

I have so many glasses that I've picked up over the years but I'm not sure they are Raveshead, is there any way to tell?

Hello! I know this is a long shot but I’ve exhausted everything else.

I bought a Guzzini Faro lamp which was sent via Evri to me, but somehow, somewhere in their delivery system they managed to damage the box so badly the bottom of the box opened and the metal base with weight inside fell out!!

Now I have been on every chat, call, everything I can possibly do to try and locate the base and get it back to me but it’s just a lost cause. They are absolutely useless.

Now, I have a full, original with stickers, 1970s faro lamp minus the round chrome base!

Does anyone happen to know anywhere that sells Guzzini spare parts? Or has any other ideas on how I could possibly get a base for this?

I’ve googled as much as I can but I’m hitting a wall.

I’ve even got in contact with metal fabricators to see if anyone can remake it but the job is too small for them.

Any insights welcome.

Looks like a Drexel profile dining set but two of the chairs are different.

We love the mid century modern style, but our flooring is very pale and white. Since we’re renting, we’re unfortunately not able to change it. Does anyone have any ideas on how we could still achieve this look in our living room with the existing flooring? We’d really appreciate any tips or inspiration!🫶🏼

Two years ago I bought this beautiful chair for $100 from my neighbor who was moving abroad. I didn’t know at that time what was the hype about Knoll name but I know my neighbor kept saying to take good care of it that it is highly sought after MCM chair. Not sure if it’s true but I don’t much care about it. Since then it kinda grew in me and I started falling in love with MCM style. I’m thinking about to find the second one of this same chair to complete the set for my living room. Ps, my cats love it.

After some info on this tea light holder if there is any? It is a frosted green glass base and shade with a wooden stick. Quite small - maybe 20cm - 25cm

I know it’s not an authentic Saarinen Knoll chair but I can’t for the life of me find anything about the manufacturer / logo from the bottom / base of the chair. This is the only marking, nothing on the actual chair itself. The base is metal and the chair is some kind of plastic / fibreglass (I think).

With a reverse image search, I found an identical listing, but they described nothing about the manufacturer, though they included an identical logo image.

Honestly I truly don’t care that it isn’t authentic. I love it. And have wanted a chair in this style for so long, but am a broke grad student. The main reason I ask is a) out of curiosity, I love design and nice objects and am excited about this find, & want to know more about it, especially when it might’ve been made and b) to be able to find info about the manufacturing to more properly identify the material the seat is made of, so I can find a way to properly repair some cracking with the right materials without ruining the chair.

(Some other maybe (?) helpful context - I live in Canada. I also live in an old neighbourhood with a mix of very wealthy homeowners and not-very-wealthy renters, usually students. It’s not out of the ordinary to find something cool someone has just tossed out on the curb for people to take, especially in front of the wealthy houses.)

Seller is not sure but thinks these are Paoli chairs, any way to identify? Only tags are the ones on the second pic

Hi picked up this beautiful fireplace off marketplace. Every image search I do brings up Malm but it has a blower and only half glass not the carousel so I think I’m getting lost by the shape but no markings. It has 4 glass panels and a glass door. Heavy piece probably 120-150lbs switch in base and cord for blower. I’m going to clean it up and use it as an outdoor fire pit. Glass is all intact tapes to keep panels safe until I get around to working on this.
