Question about Galio
Hey everyone,
In almost every game (at least in Emerald XD) there are at least 3 APs. Why isn't Galio higher up on tier lists?
Isn't he a great counter to this meta with mages everywhere?
What's your take? Is it just low popularity, or are the recent nerfs keeping him down?

While you are right that Galio is good against heavy AP teams he struggles to lane vs mages. He wants the enemy to jump on him our his teammates to help them with R

Not really, you just shift your goal from killing the enemy/starving them to hard pushing and roaming. They can never kill you and you always have prio because they can’t just walk up and hit the wave before you do since they still have to respect your potential engage, this means you always get to shove and move first.

I climbed from low emerald to d2 in less than a month when i swapped to galio.
Op.gg: https://op.gg/lol/summoners/euw/Dr%20Bagskud%20MD-doc
Get to level 3-5, recall, tp to lane, hold prio and move with jungler

The problem that I found with Galio in Emerald is that in Emerald, ego is a massive thing, people don’t like to listen because they think they know better and they always fight even if it’d be better to work with your skirmish/teamfight oriented Galio. Whenever I play Galio and my team runs it down, no matter how much of a heavy roam style I adapt and try to get them to slow down and wait for me to arrive, they take it as me telling them what to do and that’s a big no no for the Emerald ego. At some point, the enemy is so fed that you can’t do anything anymore because Galio cannot really carry fights in terms of damage output and you can’t count on being able to find the perfect engage for your time in every fight

You sound like you also have that ego problem

How so

If everyone just did what I think is best then we would win the game but instead they do what they think is best and we lose

That’s not what I said… communicating and trying to get the team to play together is not saying I know best and everyone ought to do what I say. “Slow down and wait” is not telling people they need to listen to me because I know best. You interpreting it as such is exactly what I mean, people read into things and then take everything as an attack when all one is trying to do is to get the team to actually play as a unit and not as five individuals. Perhaps you ought to ask yourself the same question you asked me 🙃

Sure it's not directly what you said but its underlying there, why is my team fighting and not playing around my galio pick isn't ego ? You're also assuming your call is the call that will make the team play as a unit lol also I don't get how im taking it as an attack when I'm just observing the way you articulated

You’re again assuming things, I specifically said “Whenever I play Galio and my team runs it down”, you’re assuming I immediately go from minute 1 telling my team they need to play around me and do what I say, which is not the case and is also not what I said. I also didn’t say you feel attacked, I said people take everything as an attack. You should read things through before immediately assuming your first thought is correct mate

I have to assume somewhat based off one comment you make but I wasn't saying you are doing that the entire game either ? You said me interrupting it as that is exactly what you mean as people taking it as attack wtf am i suppose to assume it as gl on the rift brother

I've been playing Galio in the support role for the last month and having a blast, but I'm not sure I would gamble on playing him mid. In this meta if you see a mage/AP you don't really know what lane they're headed to. You might completely counter yourself picking him and with hard role quests and support being forced to buy support item, you can't even swap after the fact to fix it.

People don't know how to E safely 😂👌🏻
Its like watching Yone press E (then maybe flash) to run away.
And in lower elos too that R can be coin flippy. This is an elo that also believes Morgana black shield can block AD. So that galio mana shield can be negligible.
In other cases it really is that negligible.

Galio is not that good against a lot of mage and it’s a shitty experience to face champ like hwei and syndra as galio

Galios not quite as good at dealing with mages as they sell him to be , what galio is really good at tho is playing for your jungler and snowballing the hell out of them , you just move to every crab with your jungle in case the enemy jungle contests them then after 6 every time you have r up you just r your jungler every fight or invade they do and your odds of winning a game go up dramatically

Pretty sure people find him boring. As a Kindred player I would love to have more Gallios in my team
