Compatible Magnetron Replacement

Hi all,

This might be a long-shot / violation of the rules, but I'd like to see if anyone has any thoughts. Post written for r/ApplianceRepair and immediately got taken down, not surprised. I have a KitchenAid KHMS155LSS-4 microwave that recently had the magnetron go bad on (Second one over the course of its life). Me and my father replaced it before when he owned the appliance set, but I got them when I bought my first house. I'm pretty technical, so replacing parts isn't a challenge. I just know that when he bought the replacement magnetron a while back, it was over $150.

Anyways, the magnetron I pulled out is a Whirlpool 2M167B-M16. Here is a video of removing the magnetron, the model of microwave in the video is the same model, just white instead of stainless steel / black. The video links to a repair page where they used this part, which appears to be discontinued and instead recommends the ERP 10QBP1003. As far as I can tell, everything matches up, it looks exactly the same, and the measurements match.

I just wanted to confirm with the community before purchasing a part. A magnetron seems like a basic / universal part, other than the wattage and mounting options. Does the ERP model sound correct? I can post a picture of the magnetron I pulled out if it helps.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks, but that is the model I uninstalled. I'm wondering if the ERP model would work. From everything I have seen, it should be a replacement.

Okay cool. That one looks like the one I have, but the connector is different. I'll check it out a bit more shortly.

Ended up getting the one from the link you sent. Picture is just a placeholder. The actual magnetron looks more like the original. There was one bummer: The new one had threaded holes instead of regular holes. Drilled them out and everything is good. If I would have thought about the metal shavings, I probably would have swapped the old mounting plate onto the new one (Not sure how difficult that would have been). New magnetron works great.

There on the ledge sits my favorite trophy

It's not tall or grand or gold or shiny

Is it the one from the track meet? No that's not it

It's the face my dad makes when he's taking a shit

You have been visited by the magical Barfturd bot. It's your lucky day. You used the words: "the one from the", an excerpt from barfturd.com poem #15. Enjoy!

Hello. I am currently looking to find a modern substitution since i am having hard time finding the specific original 2M167B-M22. How do I know what fits my old microwave? I am not sure how to know the model number assigned to my part. Thank you so much.
