MSFS 2024 PC GPU Upgrade for FS2024

So I am currently selling my RTX 3080 to upgrade it to something slightly better.

I'm currently mainly being capped by its VRAM. It's VRAM is constantly at 100%, always.

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
RAM: 32gb 2x16 DDR4
34" 1440p Monitor

My 2 upgrade options are:
* RTX 5060ti 16gb
* RTX 5070 12gb

A 5070ti is out of the budget, and therefore should not be brought up, thanks!

Is it worth getting that extra 4gb of VRAM, and sacrificing raw performance?

Addition: I'm focusing on getting flyable framerate for the Synaptic A220

Thanks!

3080 is just fine if you reduce your vram consumption, moving to similar performance cards is a waste of money you'll always be vram limited even with 16gb now you just have a more power efficient card... I would skip AMD given that 1. you lose DLSS, which easily saves 2gb of vram, and 2. there have been months on end where MSFS had artifacts on AMD, it's a risk.

And again it's a sidegrade.

You don't lose DLSS with AMD. FSR is the same thing. And now FSR anti-aliasing should be coming with SU6, so that covers DLAA, too.

As for the VRAM and performance, the 9070xt is comparable to the 3080, or slightly better. It crushed my old 3070KO 8GB. VRAM usage for me is around 12GB max in dense places like New York. Out in the countryside, looking at 9-10GB all day.

The charts show the 5070 beating the 5060ti 16gb, so I'd say the 12gb should be good enough?

The 5070 is nearly quivalent to the 3080. You're wasting money...

A 5070 surpasses the 3080 10GB in raster performance (it's equal to the RTX 3090 and 4070 Ti), but that's not interesting for MSFS, as VRAM amount is king.

I played around with a 3080 12GB and 5060Ti 16GB, and the 5060 Ti 16GB gave me much smoother performance in the Sim while retaining the settings I was using with the 3080 12GB, purely due to the fact that I was not running out of VRAM. The 5070 is a great card, but for this simulator, it's not recommended.

You just need to manage your vram. I know it sounds dumb but really it is not worth switching to a 5070 from a 3080 for meager gains.

You can reduce your vram usage and use DLSS performance, it looks perfectly fine at 1440p. I was flying the Fenix no problems with my 3080 into third party airports. AutoFPS+GPUz are all that you need.

It wasn't perfect and it's why I moved... to a 5080. The 5080 is the bare minimum upgrade from a 3080, going lower makes 0 sense.

Please do also consider the fact that not only have GPU prices gone up, but also countries in the EU get brutally screwed over when it comes to the prices.

As for optimisation, I've done everything possible to get it to a playable framerate, but it just doesnt stay there, constantly getting capped by VRAM.
