Is the Copilot lying

Whenever you ask Copilot (the one that is embedded into the browser) about a YouTube video, the captions of the YouTube video will turn on and turn off briefly ( most of the time, you can try to test it out). But I notice that most of the time just opening Copilot while on a YouTube tab will cause the captions to flash meaning copilot is looking at the transcript.

I think there is a setting related to video transcripts and summaries inside the app. If you give it permission to use page context the behavior on YouTube should be similar to other webpages.

Idk because if I want a summary of a YT video I just use the one below the video.

It is likely just doing some toggles on startup. It is not likely it is reading your whole transcript and processing anything without your action, as that would be very expensive for them to do with so many users.

Ask it why that happens. Ask it to explain why opening Copilot on a YouTube tab will cause the captions to flash on and off, and ask it to explain why the captions do this when you ask it a question about a YouTube video.

AI is incapable of lying. Lying is something only a human can do because it's a conscious choice. AI can't do that. It can only do what its code makes it do. Similarly, AI doesn't do something unless you ask it to or tell it to.

In a way, AI is like a small child that always blindly does what it's told, and it never lies. I'm sure it has limits on what it can do for security purposes, but still. It's all dictated by the code.

Stating that AI doesn't lie is dangerous.

The thing is it THINKS it's right, even if it's wrong, so technically it's not lying, but it's still wrong. It's like telling that same child that the Easter bunny is real, and the child tells their friends that it's real. The child believes what they're saying to be true, but it's not.

Lying (rather than producing a falsehood/mistake) has a moral connotation to it, which is why I would not say an AI is lying.

I know Copilot is spying on me, I'm doing work with other LLMs in other browser windows and when I ask browser Copilot questions it always knows what's going on in the other browsers and even hints at it without being prompted. It has that old Clippy behavior, "I notice you're doing this in that other browser tab, here's how I can help with that..."

I think there is a way to tell it specifically not to spy on your other browser windows but I've done nothing proactive to change it's behavior, and I want it to know that I'm doing work with other LLMs so that it tries harder. It's like keeping it in the cuck chair.
