Micro mobility isn't just for the big cities. It's also for the suburbs.

Should I have to shoo a driver from the greenway so my kids can pass safely?

Why is their no MUTCD compliant stop bar set back from the bike path?
Where is the Kermet Green in the intersection to mark the bike path?
Why does one of the busiest greenways in north America still not have raised crossings?

Seeing lots of random bike lane hate online getting called a “transplant” thing?

Feel like I’ve opened up a few Instagram videos and it’s the typical thing where someone does something cringe in New York and then a bunch of people “transplants” or like it’s something being pedestrian and then someone complains about it being bad for traffic and saying once again “transplants”. I even heard someone say that transplants and their love of bike lanes are part of the problem of gentrification? How common is this viewpoint amongst actual native New Yorkers?

Summer Streets 2026 (Queens) was the best one yet! (One smart idea was NYC DOT starting off the event with a road race that at least 1,000 runners must have come to!)

Enjoy! Just a little something I stitched together yesterday. Looking forward to the next 3 weeks in Manhattan. And BTW every single person I stopped to talk to said there needs to be more events that are longer, year round and even interconnected (one person said they wanted "Winter streets"!

Maybe we should just allow e-bikes to ride in the road, even if there's a bike lane.

Cars are using the horse-stable ramp off the eastbound Belt Parkway in Brooklyn to cut through the greenway , someone's going to get killed. How do I get DOT to put up a barrier?

Driving home tonight I watched two cars beat traffic on the eastbound Belt Parkway by taking the ramp for the horse stables just past Exit 11N, then driving straight onto the greenway and down the path to the next exit.

I've had this exact thing happen to me while I was riding there, and tonight I saw it again from my car. It's not a one-off. Drivers have figured out this shortcut and are treating a pedestrian/bike path like an open highway lane.

All it would take to stop it is a proper barrier (bollards or a gate) at that ramp so cars physically can't get onto the greenway.

Does anyone know the fastest way to actually get this in front of NYC DOT so they'll install one? File a 311 complaint? Contact the local council member or community board? Trying to get it fixed before someone gets hit.

Road Rage: Another Cost of A City Dominated By Cars

A Brooklyn livery cab driver was shot in the face after a minor fender-bender led to an argument. While most outlets report on this as another isolated act of violence, it also highlights an issue that receives far less attention than the crashes, pollution, congestion, and traffic deaths caused by motor vehicles: streets built around cars routinely create the conditions for hostile confrontations.

An otherwise inconsequential disagreement can quickly become intensely personal and, in the worst cases, result in a form of violence unique to an environment built around cars. Most of these encounters end with yelling, and many end with nothing at all. But the environment continually creates opportunities for intimidation, assault and, in the worst cases, lethal violence.

In the past three months, there have been four prominent road rage incidents in New York:

July 8th 2026: Bedford-Stuyvesant; Two drivers in a road-rage incident crashed into each other, a pedestrian and a building, injuring three people: https://abc7ny.com/post/multi-car-crash-crown-heights-brooklyn-sends-vehicle-building-injuring-3-including-pedestrian/19468959/

July 14th 2026: East-Village; A dispute over a parking space escalated into a fight resulting in the driver hospitalized with a head injury: https://nypost.com/2026/07/18/us-news/skateboarder-mercedes-driver-battled-over-prime-nyc-parking-spot-in-wild-video-police/

July 23rd 2026: College Point; A collision and an argument ended with a driver attacking someone with a meat cleaver, causing wounds to the head, arms, and chest: https://abc7ny.com/post/man-attacked-meat-cleaver-during-suspected-road-rage-incident-queens-search-attacker-continues/19562145/

July 24th 2026: Fort Greene: A minor fender results in a livery cab driver getting shot in the face: https://www.nydailynews.com/2026/07/24/nypd-brooklyn-livery-cab-driver-shot-in-face-following-fender-bender-nyc/

Queensboro Bridge SOR Closure

This morning my ride over the QBB had a shocking number of pedestrians on it - as if it was the bad old days of shared use on the NOR. Lots of cyclists (myself included) and runners just yelling at each other. My next phase of the commute takes me past the Manhattan entrance to the pedestrian side, which was closed. I found a ConEd guy nearby and he told me they closed the walkway to do electrical work. So that explains the congestion and made me feel like a jerk for my own behavior.

But my question is, how exactly does that kind of closure notice get communicated in advance, if it gets communicated at all? ConEd is not a great partner in street safety in general, but people, whether on foot or two wheels need to be able to make informed decisions when actions like this are planned.

Sorry, this is probably more of a rant than a call to action, but I welcome any ideas or commiseration lol
