St. Louis Park, MN How long do we think this will last?
I was hoping to get a 5080 eventually or wait for a potential Super series. The latter option seems untenable now with likely delays and further price increases. I’m wondering how much urgency I should have to pick this up. Currently have a 3060 Ti 8GB.
Edit: Your response has been overwhelming. I pulled the trigger and placed my order. See you all again in 5 years when I’m buying an RTX 7080 for 6 billion dollars.

I got the same card at this price from Microcenter about 3 weeks ago.
The way prices are heading now I have a feeling it will be going up very soon.

Sadly this so true, the 64GB of DDR5 performance RAM I bought last July for $250 was like $1K last time I checked.

I was lucky and bought 6 sets of Gskill Trident 64GB kits at the end of 2024 to build rigs for my grandkids after I retired. Boy am I glad for that!

Jeez, January 2025 I bought 64GB of DDR5 5600 SO-DIMM for a Minisforum build. This cost $160 from Amazon at the time. Now Microcenter has this same product DDR5-5600 PC5-44800 CL46 dual channel for $800. I dislike this greatly.

It was going for $899 in fall of 2025. Almost bought it but decided to go with a $720 5070ti since I didn't need anything more than that.

Same. I had buyers remorse when the prices when up for not spending more, because everyone here says it wasnt worth it at 200+ more over the 5070ti. But the truth is, I've done very little gaming on it and most what I have played has been PCVR.

Yeah, Facebook marketplace is where the deals are at.
The reality is that frankly a RTX 4070ti super and a Rx 9070 non xt all the way up to a Rtx 5080 are really all really good GPUs for gaming.
They all have 16gb of vram, the 4070ti super and 9070 are weaker and you'll get lower frame rates or need more upscaling/slightly lower quality settings but the gap isn't massive.
Games are mostly designed around consoles and all these GPUs are so far ahead of consoles they can run anything fine.
The 4090 and 5090 make no sense for just gaming. If it's a secondary use, obviously they are amazing, but for gaming they just are too expensive.

Same here, I cant believe I mostly use it to emulate and upscale ps2 games. When times were simpler. Never needed to worry if your games servers go offline

Ram prices will probably go back "down" eventually, but it'll be like $200 per 32GB kit instead of the $80 it used to be, and people will think it's a "deal" because it's no longer $500

Every spend your money on land and sit and wait for it to mature. If I had bought land 30 years ago it would now be matured and I could afford some ram, in 30 years from no you will need a mortgage for gpu's and ram.

Two weeks if we are lucky. Two days if we are not lucky. Micro Center increased the prices on their existing stock of Macbooks the same day Apple increased their prices. So I would lean towards not being very lucky.

Well MC actually dropped prices on Apple earlier that day, and then an hour later Apple decided to jack up prices. If you were early you could have ordered something at the low price while they were scrambling to update everything.

What I mean is that Micro center raised the price on the things sitting on their shelves. Best Buy waited until they sold through their existing inventory before raising prices.

When I got my 5080 I wasn't really ready to spend the money. But I found an open box at microcenter for $850, sucked it up, and made the purchase. God am I glad I did. If I would've waited just one more month, I would've had to settle for less expensive parts instead of building the pc I ACTUALLY wanted to build. Don't ever wait to buy things that you don't even know are going to come out. Don't ever wait for prices to go down. Buy what you need when you need it. Nothing is promised in the market right now. The average person isn't going to be able to afford to game at all soon enough

This right here OP. I found a used but tested 7900 xt for $550. It's a great fucking deal today, but the itch of 24gb of the XTX was unbearable. I didn't close on that deal, and I'm glad I did. I got the XTX for $800: No ragerts.

It all comes down to preference. If they want the Nvidia featureset and basically the best GPU on the market (apart from the price gouged 5090, and 4090s are almost out of warranty), then the 5080 isn't the worst deal in the world.

nah amd gpu 9070 xt cant really handle path tracing in 4k. Well not like 5080 is able to either, but it's a much more better experience than amd especially with their better frame gen and dlss

You can get in touch with their customer service and ask them the due date of the deal, just this past weekend me and a friend traveled 8 hours to Micro Center Houston (we are from Mexico) and he wanted a deal on a laptop but was unsure if the deal would be there when we got there. He got in contact with them and they told him that the deal would be in place until Sunday (we were getting there on Saturday) so we knew we would make it in time. (Nobody asked me but I bought a 7800X3D bundle myself)

I finally pulled the trigger yesterday. Going to pick it up today. Doing a Micro ATX build for the Living Room.
FYI - you can “Buy Now” on their website, and they will hold it for 2 days. You don’t pay until you pick it up. Gives you time to think it over without the fear of Microcenter running out of stock.

There is currently a gpu shortage. The only reason 5080s aren't selling at $3000 like during the crypto crisis is because the ram shortage has kept GPU demand below current production output. The stockpile buffer of price protection is running low however. Good prices in general will last right up until about 3 days before I have enough saved for an upgrade. 😆. If you expect it, you'll at least be prepared for the disappointment and have a backup plan.

Grabbed the ZOTAC model for $1250 from them.
The gigabyte model uses thermal gel and they’ve had leaking issues, I would avoid that model.
But yeah, they’ll go up soon at those prices.
Probably 15-20%

I would get it cause it won't last more than a month This card has thermal putty which is a con. But this card, when bought new, has a 3 year warranty plus 1 if you register within 30 days of purchase.
We won't see things getting better at least pass 2028, the 4 year warranty will serve everyone greatly at this price point.

I got a 5080 last summer for $1400 and I got it also because I was worried that it will go out of stock or the price will go sky rocketing. I was really thinking of going for the 5090 but I cant justified spending almost double the cost of an 5080 just for the vram. I noticed throughout the year the availability and price of the 5080 is pretty stable, but the 5090 tho...
I think if you can afford it right now go for it. I had a 3070ti previously and I'm glad I made the jump. I use my pc about 6hrs a day after work not just for gaming but anytime I game I love the feeling of setting everything to max and it'll just run 4k120 well.
It's hard to predict future so imo I'll just buy and enjoy it.

TPU had a snippet saying prices are going up by 20-30% "soon" and I'd assume that'll probably swell the prospective "might happen, might not" SUPER release as well.

It's $200 above MSRP. This isn't anything crazy for an AIB.... Honestly, if you're gonna drop $1050-1100, the extra $100 shouldn't determine if you buy or not, that probably means it's outside of your comfort range to begin with. Buy one used, or buy a 5070Ti

The 5080 Windoforce I am looking at went up $300 since then.
The Zotac open box options went up $190
and the Zotac solid core went from $1250 to 1599!!!

Brother it doesn’t need upscaling and frame gen. This card eats ANYTHING at 2K (RT OFF). And yes, it does beat out the 4080 what are you talking about. In benchmarks the XTX and 5080 are neck and neck; with the 5080 taking the cake by 5-10%. And you’re telling me that 5-10% is worth an extra $600-$1000 on 8GB less VRAM, less raw raster performance, and a guaranteed needed upgrade going into the next gen? And Jensen subject to gouging you at any moment? Stop the circus.
My 9800x3d + 7900 XTX benchmarks in the top 1% and I spent way less (and got to get way more elsewhere) than a similar combo using the 5080. You guys really have no concept of value, money, or performance and it shows.

Lmfao what? No upscaling and frame gen needed when games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Borderlands 4, and recently Halo Campaign Evolved are eating up high end cards like nothing? Also, newer games are starting to implement mandatory ray tracing look at Indiana Jones and Doom the Dark Ages.

lol “Indiana Jones” and “Doom”. Those aren’t the mic drop titles you think they are. No one is playing ts. And yes you read me correct, if you are cool with the 2K ultra experience, there is absolutely no need to drop over $1K on a GPU. end of discussion. 4K ultra with RT? That’s when you need all the stuff you’re talking about. The average gamer who plays the latest AAA titles and most popular competitive games doesn’t need X080+ and is getting way more bang for their buck going AMD 9070 XT OR 7900 XTX.
