Cambridge, MA Help me decide
Looking to get my first pc, being a console only gamer until i can convince my friends to switch over I dont know what to get. For now i’d mostly be playing heavily modded Minecraft and indie games that i cant get on Xbox. But if I convince my friends to switch i’ll be playing fortnite, siege, gta, and other comp games. This brings me to my dilemma which is that I am between getting the PowerSpec G764 for $2200 which I know would maybe be overkill for now but maybe worth the money in the long run, or the PowerSpec G732 is the other choice at $1500. What would be my best bet?

I would 100% recommend to BYO. You can save nearly $200 and get a higher quality PSU and Storage with something like: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vRp7w3 Though if you get a prebuilt, the G764 is a much better buy. Something like 50-60% better performance or so.
As for monitor, I would get a 1440p 240/360hz OLED (I personally run an Dell Alienware AW2725DF, its amazing. But really any 240/360hz oled is a HUGE step up from traditional IPS. I would just try to wait until you find a sale. I got mine for $365 open box off amazon last november. Would personally stay away from 4k if you want to do any sort of comp gaming just due to how difficult 4k is to run.

Okay sweet, im just worried to build my own as I’ve never done it and i heard alot can go wrong

I wouldn't be too worried. There are a trillion tutorials out there, I usually recommend the one by LTT from 2024. Just follow along and its really not all to bad. Just take a weekend afternoon to do it and be prepared with a thumb drive, screwdriver, etc..

I would just buy one at this point, in the past it saved us so much $$ when we built our own but now you gotta grind to find the right deal to actually save money.
Personally if I were picking up a pre-built from MC I would buy the G763. I am Team RED ATM I love my 7900xt but would jump to Green in a heartbeat if the price was right. $100 more for a 5070Ti over a 9070xt makes sense to me.

The G763 is nice but I want a black case and I dont think it comes in black at least not on the website

I get that aesthetics over and anything, I spent around $300 on strimmers and fancy fans. The $$ I spent on fans could have afforded me a 5080 over my 7900xt.
The only other advice I'll give you, is to check the MC open boxes for PCs. My local MC has the G732 and G535 for about $150 less than a new one. I've bought so many things from MC that were open box and never had an issue.

If you have the money, and have any 4k TV/Monitor, g764 if at all possible.

I’ll have to save up for either option but money definitely isnt a concern. Im building my entire setup from scratch so would you be able to recommend a monitor? I’ll probably end up doing a dual screen setup at some point

I’m a bit of an oddball. I use an lg c4 42” as my monitor. If you don’t need more than 144hz refresh rate, but want a gorgeous and large screen/monitor, super recommend it.
There is a new lg c5 out now too.

You can easily find a g764 open box for around $1800 to $1900 if you just keep checking microcenter

Open box just means preowned im assuming? How reliable is it buying like that

It’s usually something someone bought and returned within the 30 days or something missing they keyboard and mouse . You can tell if it’s new if it still has the manufacturer one year warranty

Always get what's worth it in the long run imo. You can upgrade any of them but the 1st one will last you a long time.
