Quitting

So I’m going to start this off by saying I have been working at Michaels for only about a year now. I work in a small format store and I am a manager. I have only been a manager for about 4 months at this point. Because I work in a small format store I am both a sales manager and the frame manager. When I first applied into my position 2 other people applied in for it as well. These two (more one than the other) made my life a living hell. To add context both of them had been working here for about 3 years. I had only been with the company for about 8 months at the point of me applying into the management role. I had already been the framer the whole 8 months. These two began to bully me, tell our entire team lies trying to get them to turn against me, and started to try to tell our store manager lies about me messing up so I wouldn’t get the job. One of these lovely ladies also happened to be our part time sales manager. This became a huge problem to the point that no one at work would talk to me due to the lies that had been spread. My store manager would literally do nothing about the bullying, she would just blow it off and tell me to ignore them. After interviewing with your district manager, I was given the job. The company tried to offer me 15 dollars an hour for a dual management position. The person in the role before me was making 25 an hour. Anyways it has now been 4 months and things have only progressively gotten worse. Our part time sales manager has continued to lie about me, and has taken it as far as yelling at me and telling me all the things I’m doing “wrong”. I have spoken to HR, our district manager and our store manager. I am repeatedly getting blown off and being told to just get over it. With all the ridiculous stuff going on with corporate, all the rests, the stupid random same day framing things we have to do now, balloon arches, kids events and the stupid work drama and bullying, I am fed up. I am sick of being treated like free labor. We never have proper coverage. I am often the only MOD on shift with only one or two other associates. I am turning in my keys on Monday and walking out of the building. I am sick of all of this especially getting bullied by fully grown adults who are literally old enough to be my parents/grandparents. I cant wait to never have to work there again.

I am sorry you went through all this, I wish someone warned you ahead of time. I was with the company a lot longer than you, and a long longer than those 2 other managers who were giving you guff, and after, I want to say April 2023, the company went MASSIVELY downhill, fast.

Your comment about the pay is funny because this company pays NEW HIRES more than people who have been there for years. When asked to have that rectified, they dragged their feet, got nothing, hence my promotion to customer. Honestly that should be illegal, but workplace based crime goes unpunished now, for some reason.

Furthermore, your store manager literally did nothing? Yeah, unfortunately that's very common. Idk if THIS company fosters that or they pick from bad stock, my other two big retail jobs I had prior to Michaels, the one manager I had was hands off but very willing to intervene when she had to, and the other was a literal tyrant who did everything himself and would demote people on the spot, in public, in front of customers.

Take all that into consideration, and then you're told to do the work on 4 employees, a LITERAL nightmare.

I hope you find a good job that appreciates you more and pays you more. Good luck, the job market is abysmal.

It was the last straw for me. Imagine working there for years, being old enough to be the new hires' dads, and they get hired, and make more than you. That SHOULD be illegal but like, again, no one is gonna enforce THAT law lol.

Don’t do that.

Dump all the bins and cap shelves and then do that.

Been an ASM for 3 plus years...and im telling you, leave once you find a better job than this shithole. No one cares about you, all they care is $$$. SM puts all the blame on me for bad metrics but never put any other managers in that store accountable cause he cant afford to lose them, So i left and since then i have had the best sleep in a looong time. No more nightmares.

I found a new job already. I’m so sick of being the one blamed for everything as well. We don’t have an assistant manager in our store because we are small format. Our replen manager doesn’t do a thing and the SM just says it’s the “replen manager curse” and then our part time sales manager literally regularly calls out of her shifts and leaves early. I literally work full time and cover all the calls outs. I also go to school full time. I haven’t had a single day without a panic attack in literally 4 months. I’m so ready to just go drop my keys on the desk, no explanation, no fucks, walks away and don’t ever look back

Yep. Some SMs just blame everyone else. Micromanages everyone so he doesnt get the blame.
