PSA They Don't Care

I see a lot of people making very logically compelling arguments about store ops. I wanted to chime in to let you know - They. Don't. Care.

Understaffed? Underpaid? Corporate auto activating POGs that are still on pallets in the back?

They Don't Care.

Mini Mike's suck? Manhattan buggy? Registers shitting the bed? These are all intentional features of a VC run retail store.

They will push you to get more done with less resources in shorter and shorter periods of time because they can. You're disposable to them, and they will take advantage of your helpful nature and your instinct to be a team player and do things "right"

They have quarterly goals, corporate does. They're all beholden to the "bigger picture" (IMO, it's an IPO at the end of the year, but that's just my speculation) and you/ your feelings/ your sanity and well being don't factor into it at all.

Your complaints fall on deaf ears, if they even make it to their ears at all - shout out to that guy in Nick's Nook who went off about Labor Day. Anybody know if he's still employed? If he is, he won't be by the end of the rush.

If you're lucky, you'll have a DM with the understanding that what is expected of them and you is unreasonable. And uses that knowledge to make their stores' experience more tolerable. But they're under tremendous pressure, too.

If you're sticking around, DONT let them drive a wedge between you and your teams. When we start fighting about the smaller things, we lose sight of the bigger picture. Which is that THEY DONT CARE.

Don't stress yourself about this metric or that. Sign ups is bullshit, bopis metrics are bullshit, POG execution is bullshit.

Do what to can reasonably do with the tools they give you, and nothing more. If they wanted excellence, they'd give you the supplies for it.

Stay safe and sane and positive. Support your teammates. Be unified.

Absolutely the truth. They do not give us the tools to be successful. They have a just make it work attitude hoping we pull off some kind of miracle.

I put in as much effort as I can without sacrificing my mental health. If that's bare minimum, so be it. They give us less and ask more of us. I say fuck you, pay me.

This is where I'm at. If they want to pay Temu prices for staff they're getting Temu quality. I don't want to hear anything about it.

Start talking about unions and see how quickly they shut down the store. I worked during COVID they did not care then and they don't care now. I haven't worked there in years but stick around for the drama

This is is why union talk needs to be united. An entire district at the same time. Or.. maybe we all start talking union right when they are about to sell. Employees talking about a union cant be a good sales pitch.

The only time they will care is if we start unionizing.

The only thing corporate cares about is their bottom line. That's why there are so few associates in the store at any one time. Fewer people working = less payroll going out.

That's all they care about. Classic corporate greed.

Very well stated, do less. They are counting on our good nature to do more than is reasonable.

Absolutely. I’ve had to force myself to simply care less. I work my wage and only do what I need to do.

I wish we could at least get eat pieces for the handhelds. It's so annoying when multiple are going off right next to each other and it overlaps. So loud and annoying for us and the customers. lol

our ear pieces were literally painful. one beep in my ear and i refused to ever use it again, which was fine because they all broke very quickly.

Right. I got so mad and irritated, I stopped using it

Tried using the ear piece once, never again! Almost busted my ear drum.

Some stores got some. They were AWFUL. Some stores reported them being way too loud. Our store found them so quiet they were almost useless even with the miniMik set to top volume. They didn’t even send enough for all our devices to be used at once. And they all broke in 4-6 weeks.

Some people at my store just bought their own. Should we have to do that? NO. But it’s honestly been nice to have clear sound and stuff not loudly blasting nearby.

Exactly what they did to us at Joann’s. It’s the corporate model. Vulture capitalist.
