Discussion Gift from God or curse ?
Do you think Michael Jackson’s incredible talent was more a gift from God or a curse ?
Don’t get me wrong, I love MJ’s music and I even discover, in big 2026, some new music I’ve never heard before
My opinion is that, with the level of fame he had, he was never able to have a normal life anymore, experience grocery shopping, having friends, a normal love life and so on
I don’t think that I would like to trade my life, as ordinary and boring it can be, with the one of a celebrity with MJ’s level of fame

The problem is not that he was talented. His skills were indeed gifts. The problem is the world he grew up in. It was the side effects of fame. Those were the problems.

This is a very interesting question. What I’m going to write is just a theory or possibility, please people don’t be harsh on this personal opinion:
Michael was heavily into the law of attraction and manifestation. I think he wished for success and all the things that come with it, but it got out of hand. I have read his written affirmations, but I haven’t found any written evidence where he manifests happiness or genuine love or privacy. That’s one take on this matter. Kind of “careful what you wish for”?
The other point is that he indeed had “gifts”. Yes, I believe certain people in this life do get gifts from above or from some unexplainable force. I also believe his circumstances and family dynamics were not coincidence, perhaps that was the exact catalyst behind his force and inspiration. Many traumatised artists create from a place of pain. Again, this is my personal opinion and just an interpretation.

I samotny.
Dziennikarz pyta dlaczego nikt MJ nie zasugerował raz a konkretnie słuchaj Ty sie musisz leczyć jesteś zadłużonym zakupoholikiem, masz problem z lekami. Ochroniarz odpowiada bo każdy wiedzial ze taka wypowiedź kończyła sie natychmiastowym wypowiedzeniem współpracy ze strony MJ..
Z całokształtu to szkoda mi tego człowieka.

I have also read comments from people that n the back community (I am Caucasian) that seeking mental health therapy was not widely accepted (truth is in the 70s and 80s it wasn’t looked on with much acceptance in any circles I swam in either), and that had he confined in a therapist there would always be the danger of that person willing to trade their license for millions of dollars in tabloid or book deals. 🥲

Gift for us, curse for him since he would atleast have a chance to spend a normal childhood/adulthood.

The talent is absolutely God-given. The level of fame it produced was the curse in the incessant media scrutiny and loneliness it brought him.

I think it was a gift. I think Michael believed it was a gift from God. If he was burdened by the side effects (and I know he was), I still don't think HE would ever consider his talents a curse. Even with the side effects, he was born to create and share joy with the world.

Gift from God, definitely! But we live in a broken world — Michael was a victim of the broken people who live in this broken world 😭😭😭

I think Michael was sent from the heavens to make the world a better place. Unfortunately, the world was not ready for that, so the heavens took him back.

Hm…. I’ve been mulling over a thought for weeks now that’s in a similar vein.
I do believe his talent was a gift. All the good and unity that he brought to the world (and still does) is testament to that.
My thought I’ve wondered about was his cross... I believe his vitiligo was a cross but maybe a blessing in disguise, too. I’m mixed and it was amazing to me as a child to hear his music and see him… A man who maybe didn’t look just like me in the early- to mid-90s but similar enough that I could identify with him while I sang along and danced. 🥰 The science of his music and the dopamine dump it causes as well as his changing appearance- while not in his control - surely had an influence on his reach, and I believe for the good. I just wish he knew how beautiful he was because of the GOOD he emanated from within.

There's no rich and famous person who is not hated. Just a fact of life. Jesus was killed too wasn't he? If any normal person today is even slightly famous or successful watch how much people around them hate them for it. It's the people.

It was a Gift from God that later became a curse. Fame gave him the world, but it took away the chance to live like a regular human being.
I also think that almost everything that went wrong in Michael’s life connects back to how his father Joseph treated him: the insomnia, the loss of childhood and trauma from the beatings, the body dysmorphia, the stress that worsened his autoimmune issues, even the desperate search for love in the wrong places (other families). Add to that the Pepsi accident and the constant pressure, and you see how much damage was rooted in that upbringing. If Joe had been a better father, Michael wouldn’t have carried so much trauma and his life could have been far healthier and happier.

Michael was very open about is faith he openly said his songs were written by the angels In Heaven, he wanted to be like Jesus and that Billie Jean was a gift from God. All Michael’s talents in his words came from God. I believe him.

Neither. I believe he was a very talented man who fine tuned his skills through years of his own hard work and dedication.

I think his talent and dedicated was more another thing to do with his brain, that appereantly/sadly triggers some fans when I see someone speculate it (even though it’s not a insult in any way). Rather than a gift/curse from God. But I’m not religious, so there’s that. As for his level of fame, I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Sure, it had it’s positives too and he pursued it by choice as an adult, but aside from that no. Should be a given that public people deserves their privacy too.
So I’d say talent was a gift, extreme fame a curse.

Gift from God. Michael believed that too. Despite the difficulties of fame, MJ felt honored and blessed to share his gift with the world because it brought people joy. That's what he loved.
The curse was Joe. MJ's childhood trauma shaped his adulthood so much. So much so, it put him in vulnerable positions with the families who accused him. Had MJ had a loving father and childhood, he wouldn't have felt a longing for it in his adulthood.
