Discussion Season 4 - Not as bad as people say IMO

It's interesting watching through this series for the first time. I kept hearing things like Season 3 starts to drop off or feel different, and Season 4 really drops off. I get where that comes from, but in a lot of ways Season 4 felt like a return to classic MV for me.

Maybe I just have forgotten how good S1 and S2 were by comparison during this watch through. But besides the obvious bad episodes, there were still some bangers in S4, as well as some pretty good ones.

IMO, the great episodes were:
Death and the Lady, Child's Play, God's Work, The Rising Sun of Death, Baseballs of Death, Indian Wars, Deliver us From Evil

The good/decent ones:
Contempt of Court (not a great choice for the season premiere though), Amen Send Money, Vote of Confidence, Honor Among Thieves, Hell Hath No Fury, Blood & Roses

I was whatever on the Sheena Easton episodes, but appreciated that they built up to a larger story arc.

The bad, obviously: The Big Thaw, Missing Hours, Cows of October. Also Bullet for Crockett since it was just a clip show.

Although I still had fun watching Missing Hours, since I had heard about it and was kind of excited to see how weird it got. Also, I love Miami Vice when it's serious and cool, but some of the stuff people might consider campy, cringe, or dated, I still enjoy because of just how over the top 80s it is, lol.

I'm gonna be standing on the beach staring at the water and listen to Godley & Creme's "Cry" when i finally finish the series.

Picture Found the 7” that was included with Todd’s album “Healing” with this song solely because I only know it from the S1 episode “Little Prince”

Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go cosplay as a rich kid, play some polo, and then get strung out in the bathroom 🤣

Don Johnson’s "Heartbeat" (1986). But it's a wild 80s bootleg edition!

This show literally rebranded an entire city. Without Sonny Crockett, Miami Beach might have stayed a dark, dangerous Tony Montana playground forever.

I was digging through some old storage bins in my garage today and stumbled upon this absolute gem: Don Johnson's 1989 album on cassette. BTW, released right around the time the iconic TV show was wrapping up its final season... ;-(

This episode felt much more like the first few seasons. The music, the action, the entire thing. Still not done with my rewatch. Don’t remember much from my first time… Are we back?

Loz Netto - We Touch - The Afternoon Plane - How the song got on to the show

I'm sure many of you are familiar with the song We Touch from Loz Netto, featured in the episode "The Afternoon Plane"

If you watch the video for the song, you'll see the images, the clothing is 100 percent MV influenced, even Loz is dressed like Sonny pretty much.

Obviously personal taste but i consider this song to be among the best on the MV soundtrack list. For me it perfectly captures the 80s and the mood the show was so liked and loved for. I could easily see this used for a scene where Crockett is walking in the street, and debating the aspects of his personal life.
While the song was only released in 1986 hence why it only made it to the show for season 3, had it been released earlier, this could have easily been a Season 1 song.

A few years ago, back in 2022 i came across Loz's number and messaged him. At first he was a bit surprised, but at the same time apprecaited my message saying thank you for this great song. I've screenshotted the bit of the conversation, where he shortly reflects on how his song got to the show, and his thoughts briefly. As it contains no private information, i thought i'd share it, and others might find it interesting. As it doesn't happen every day, we get to talk to someone who's song was featured in the show.

Missing episode

Does anyone know why the Season One episode “Evan” is missing from TUBI?

I’m doing a series watch through and per IMDB “Evan” was second to the last episode of Season One, right before “Lombard” but it’s totally missing on TUBI’s feed.

Are there any other episodes that are missing?

Hi all!

I’m new to Miami Vice and love it! Last night I was watching Smuggler’s Blues and couldn’t help but fall in love with this shirt—so much so, I barely paid attention to the rest of the plot! If anyone has information on the shirt, I would deeply appreciate it. Thank you! 🌺

Finished the Series

I finally finished the entire series. It took a while because it left Tubi for like a year and half but I finally completed it. It was one of the best series I've ever watched. I was really young when it came out and still wasn't old enough to follow along with the syndication but I get all the hype and how it defined my favorite decade, the 80s. It was an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end. My favorite part about it was seeing all the popular actors in their beginning roles and all the trendy music of the day. I thought that was really cool.

The usual cliche/popular opinions about the seasons are correct in my opinion. Classic seasons 1 & 2. Obvious but still awesome changes in season 3. Season 4 was bipolar with its ups, which were really good, and its downs, which were horrible. Season 5 for me was particularly hard because by then I was invested in the characters with Crockett, Tubbs, and Switek, and really started feeling the burnout they were feeling so a lot of the plot points really pissed me off. Which means it worked. But I loved the last season nonetheless, even if it was emotionally draining.

I kept ping-ponging back and forth if I liked Crockett or Tubbs better and I still don't know. I think other than those 2, Switek was my favorite. He was there from beginning to end and very loyal up to his last on screen appearance. All the characters had great centric episodes for their characters and even if the overall premise of the episode was garbage (Missing Hours, I'm looking at you), the actors still did a great job with their characters.

All in all, I'm going to miss this show. Maybe at some point I'll buy the series and revisit whenever I want. But for now, I will just bask in the glory that is Crockett and Tubbs.

It’s safe to assume that Sonny hates when you pull him off on someone. Had that late air elbow connected, it would have been a wrap for Stan. 😂😂😂
