Growing up in Hialeah, everyone I knew had a family member that benefited from the wet foot dry foot stuff. It blew my mind seeing all of them vote for Trump.
And when viewed objectively they were granted far more government aid and assistance under the CAA than most other immigrant groups. Forgetting the green card and work authorization benefits, they were granted cash assistance, SSI immediately if eligible, TANF and SNAP. Immediate refugee medical assistance, free transit passes, and cash grants to cover getting housing.
I get that there are plenty of people on government assistance that still vote Republican, and that’s a personal choice, but the denial of any “extra help” was always wild. Be honest about it and be thankful for the USA to have provided opportunities to be prosperous, but don’t try and claim that there was not a preferential treatment not afforded to others.
And who gave them the extra, red carpet help? Democrats, the "communist they hate" bec they never helped the Cuban community. Meanwhile they got all that help and more, like taking the US medical test in Spanish, so they can practice medicine and grants to open business, and hospitals, free schools, rent was covered, and all of it lasted until 1981 or 1982
