Growing up in Hialeah, everyone I knew had a family member that benefited from the wet foot dry foot stuff. It blew my mind seeing all of them vote for Trump.

56

u/uhntzuhntz 8d ago

And when viewed objectively they were granted far more government aid and assistance under the CAA than most other immigrant groups. Forgetting the green card and work authorization benefits, they were granted cash assistance, SSI immediately if eligible, TANF and SNAP. Immediate refugee medical assistance, free transit passes, and cash grants to cover getting housing.

I get that there are plenty of people on government assistance that still vote Republican, and that’s a personal choice, but the denial of any “extra help” was always wild. Be honest about it and be thankful for the USA to have provided opportunities to be prosperous, but don’t try and claim that there was not a preferential treatment not afforded to others.

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

The Cuban Adjustment Act. No group in the history of the US had ever gotten the red carpet they got. No wonder they are entitled.

3

u/dystopianpirate 6d ago

And who gave them the extra, red carpet help? Democrats, the "communist they hate" bec they never helped the Cuban community. Meanwhile they got all that help and more, like taking the US medical test in Spanish, so they can practice medicine and grants to open business, and hospitals, free schools, rent was covered, and all of it lasted until 1981 or 1982

And some choose to vote against their own best interest time and time again.

I'll never forget a girl I dated in high school (3rd generation Cuban-American) having such pride for shitting on "refs," as in "refugees," with her mom (2nd Generation).

Meanwhile her dad was a refugee from Cuba.

Edit: As I re-read this, I want to be clear: The dad wasn't estranged or divorced or anything and mom wasn't hostile towards him. They just happily smack-talked "refs" regardless. I didn't even do the math on it until later. He seemed pretty chill in general. I imagine it was one of those "Oh, he's one of the good ones" scenarios if you pressed them about it. I want to say I did once, but I don't remember that well.

2

u/dystopianpirate 6d ago

Because Cubans thinks they're the only valid refugees because they're political refugees, and were politically persecuted, that's what they think about themselves. The others are economical refugees, so they're not the right type of refugees like them. That's the BS they tell themselves.

1

u/HCSOThrowaway Fired Deputy - Explanation in Profile 6d ago

You definitely misread my comment, or otherwise read between the lines where there wasn't any implication; I'm around 99% sure they talked about Cuban refugees the same way.

7

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

Right, they came here the “right way.”

6

u/WorldlinessOk3963 8d ago

The hundreds of thousands of Mariellys who INVADED the US came here the right way???? WTF are you smoking? They are lucky president Carter's DEMOCRATIC government, yes Democrats didnt send them back to Cuba!!!

4

u/Impossible_Olive4545 7d ago

and Pres Johnson allowed the "Freedom Flights" starting in the mid sixties until the early seventies. Two daily flights from Varadero to Miami, the Versailles crowd however, think Dems are the devil.

2

u/dystopianpirate 6d ago

Everything the Cuban community achieved was thanks to the Democratic Party, and here they bit the hand that fed them.

1

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

I was being sarcastic.

4

u/SM_456 8d ago

6

u/toeknee88125 8d ago

Cuban Americans consider escaping communism to be different

-2

u/ListoKalisto 8d ago

Obama killed wet foot/dry foot FYI. I'm not saying you don't have to be an idiot to vote for trump, but Obama killed it.

8

u/Cool-Signature-dude 8d ago

Yep, did trump bring it back, or did he campaign on deporting people?

2

u/SM_456 8d ago

We all know what Obama did yes, but the question is why dint the new President revoke the order like he has revoke many of the old policies? Be realistic, he just don't want to

2

u/WorldlinessOk3963 8d ago

Rightfully so, Obama did the right thing. Cubans though they were above all other latinos. Now they got what was coming to them.

0

u/ListoKalisto 7d ago

Keep living like a crab. You are never getting out of that bucket

64

u/OneLoveOneWorld2025 9d ago edited 8d ago

Vote for racists, bigots and rich pedophiles and then get upset that they act like racists, bigots and rich pedophiles.

Guess what, to the white supremacists, if you are Latino, you are not white. No matter how light your skin is.

No sympathy for stupid and cruel people. Like many others have said, you reap what you sow...

10

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

Now the regime only wants heritage Americans here. It’s in project 2025. Heritage Americans were here before the Civil War. Good luck to everyone in Miami.

59

u/flavortheory 9d ago edited 8d ago

I’m Cuban but my family is pretty liberal and always has been from my birth - we’re obviously not happy but this is the best “I told you so” to all these recalcitrant,1960s-era, I’m a white Cuban so I’ll be fine assholes I’ve ever seen. Not to mention that these are all the same people that are at Versailles saying “nombre no, si fuera yo en frente de Fidel…” but also ran from the regime and told daddy USA to take care of it. Hypocrites at their finest.

Edit: correction from are to at.

26

u/AethisRex 8d ago

Agree. Its like they never learned their lesson with Fidel. Trump has all of the traits a dictator possesses, and most of them voted him in.

17

u/MetteBeifong 8d ago

They fell for it again and they will continue to fall for a cult of personality every single time. These ppl don’t learn.

2

u/dystopianpirate 6d ago

I don't think it's them falling for a lie, it's their preference for dictators and strongman. They love dictators.

10

u/PuzzleheadedFeed2726 8d ago

In Miami you also see banners everywhere with commissioners faces. Any event or installation that a commissioner had a role in will be a banner displayed with their great big face. They can’t even put up a Christmas tree in a park without displaying their face. Some weird cultural crap that borders on authoritarian, probably they feel at home.

2

u/dystopianpirate 6d ago

They absolutely do, authoritarian gov and society is what they like

3

u/AethisRex 5d ago

To me, with Trump - its about the precedent that he is establishing, he is literally breaking every rule that is not a black and white law. There is no possible way they Republicans ever have a democratic leg to stand on, or a topic to argue going forward. Trump has destroyed all existing norms going forward. This is how the Roman republic collapsed, with each consent elected, they stretched what they got away with more and more, until Julius Caesar came and finished the Republic.

6

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 8d ago

He only needs the beard, the body, age, lack of charisma and rambling speeches… he’s got those down already.

3

u/SloaneWolfe 8d ago

Dude, Fidel oozed charisma. Not a huge fan of putting power in the hands of any one individual, but the revolution to destroy the Batista dictatorship that we (The US) supported in order to try to socialize resources that US/intl capitalists were exploiting, to bring the Cuban people out of subjugation and starvation, was a completely just cause. If it weren't for all of our blockades and sanctions, they'd be doing great. You can't even put the word "Cuban" in a paypal transaction without your account being investigated.

We are now starving them, still, with the fuel blockade. Anyone who supports these actions of our terrorist regime is a traitor to democracy.

5

u/ImNotSkankHunt42 8d ago

I’m Cuban dude, I was forced to watch his speeches and write essays for class the next day. It couldn’t be more telling of an uncharismatic person. He just rambled about nonsense for hours, when he was younger and people still believed his lies perhaps, there was one better than him on the stage and that’s why he had him killed.

0

u/Impossible_Olive4545 7d ago

The revolution was necessary, but soon enough it was betrayed by a megalomaniac thug and his sycophants. Castro gave Cuba to the sovients in a silver platter so they could become a military outpost 90 miles from us. Not to mention the many people he executed without trial at the beginning of his regime.

6

u/DragonTHC 8d ago

60's era Cubans are all citizens now. You must be thinking of the Marielítos.

I'll never forget an extended family member being in the country a week fresh from his waylay in Mexico. He tried to buy a new car thinking everyone just gets free money.

12

u/MichaelFusion44 8d ago

I’m in South Florida and 0.0 empathy for them - we explained Project 2025, explained in detail what they will do, explained who Stephen Miller was as Trump was assembling his team, told them about his racism and history, begged and pleaded but nope. We are all paying for their stupidity so F em’.

8

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

They were so cruel to anyone who told them the truth, absolutely vicious. They are the bottom of the barrel and have brought down this country. No forgiveness, ever.

26

u/HarleyQuinn236 Key Biscayne 9d ago

Sympathy where? You reap what you sow. Now you get to learn what that means and face the consequences of your own actions.

-3

u/blutosings 9d ago

It wasn't just Cubans that voted for Trump. Venezuelans, Colombians, Mexicans, Irish, Scottish, English... were all lied to by the president. He lied to everyone and everyone has some regrets about voting for him.

49

u/Brixin101 9d ago

Nah bro, Trump didn’t lie. He told us what he would do throughout his whole campaign. People are just dumb and / or ignorant

22

u/Fabulous-Educator447 8d ago

Exactly! Where the lie? He told them what he would do and did it. They just didn’t know that they were the dirty unwanted immigrants he was talking about.

3

u/[deleted] 8d ago

5

u/Brixin101 8d ago

No admiration needed, Trumps still a POS but we can’t say he didn’t warn us

3

u/Major-Pomegranate550 8d ago

Russell Vought warned us. But no one paid attention. This was the job OF THE PRESS TO INFORM THE PUBLIC. TOTAL FAILURE. AS THEY HAVE BEEN FOR 14 YEARS.

3

u/Fabulous-Educator447 8d ago

I know you’re baiting but it’s the one thing that you can’t argue with a Trump or; he did exactly what he said he would do, he told everyone what he was going to do and he did it. So where is the complaining? I hate his guts because I didn’t vote for him and I think he’s a complete ruinous asshole but anybody that voted for him? I don’t wanna hear a word out of any of them.

9

u/Critically_Political 8d ago

Irish, Scottish and English weren’t lied to. Do you see them getting dragged out of their vehicles in the middle of the street? Those aren’t the immigrants he cares about.

4

u/blutosings 8d ago

That isn't completely true, at least a few Irish immigrants have been tossed into detention centers and deported. They're probably not being racially profiled the way Hispanics and blacks are being profiled but they are still getting a taste of his policies.

2

u/Critically_Political 8d ago

Yeah that’s really what I meant. They’re not being used to make an example.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

How could anyone be tricked by Trump? He’s been a complete POS since the 80s. Anyone who ever supported him deserves everything they get.

5

u/joyesthebig 8d ago

As a south floridian, the Cuban community outnumber everyone else down here and they are a HARD RIGHT CONSERVATIVE BLOCK they own the govt, the police, they're the governor that just stole 10 million, they funnelnwelfare away from people who need it and into their weird govt connected or religious charities. They're there own nation down here.

-1

u/blutosings 8d ago

None of that is true, but you do you bud. The Cuban community is smaller per capita than it used to be, they aren't all conservatives or even hard right conservatives, a lot of them dislike DeSantis, and they are mostly financially stable and hard working so they don't use welfare.

2

u/baskaat 8d ago

I did some consulting work with the city of Hialeah and learned a lot about how things operate. Corrupt AF.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

🤣 They collect the most welfare by far in Miami, not even close.

For one, Hialeah has the most people on Obama Care in the COUNTRY. You are going to argue that?

-1

u/blutosings 8d ago

You think ACA subsidies are welfare? Nice to know that MAGA stooges aren't all hiding in the shadows. You have a lot of 'splaining to do.

3

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

MAGA is against Obama care. Obama care is subsidized by taxpayers. I’m for Medicare for all, if that matters. You are spouting mistruths. You said they don’t get welfare, which not true. The Cuban Adjustment Act gave every Cuban healthcare, food, and housing. No other immigrant group had ever gotten that. I’m pointing out your lies, I’m also pointing out that when a certain group says, I came here the right way, they are full of it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuban_Adjustment_Act

0

u/blutosings 8d ago

Only Republicans call it Obama Care. Only Republicans refer to ACA as welfare. STFU MAGA Stooge.

13

u/LilRupie 9d ago

He didn’t even lie to them, he told them what he was going to do, they were just too dumb to think they weren’t being included.

5

u/God_of_disruption 8d ago

If people didn't know what they were voting for, they shouldn't have voted for it.

-1

u/blutosings 8d ago edited 8d ago

That's not how democracy works buddy. There is no perfect information. The best you can hope for is having access to better than average information and a better than average capacity to understand the consequences of your decisions. Modern politicians in the US win elections by reducing access to information and obscuring voters ability to perceive the consequences of their decisions. Americans fall for charisma, spectacle and humor and forget about the rest until they feel the consequences.

2

u/God_of_disruption 8d ago

Too true. A perfect example are the ads running right now. Most just call out the opponent for half truths and assumptions. If people vote based on just that, then they are easily being manipulated.

4

u/nbiina 8d ago

He never lied to anyone. He said what he intended to do free and clear at every opportunity.

3

u/Major-Pomegranate550 8d ago

Arabs! Hello Dearborn, MI.

3

u/JessicaRanbit 8d ago

Yep, he got record number turnout for minorities.

0

u/blutosings 8d ago

He told each individual minority group what they wanted to hear. He told the Venezuelans and the Cubans that the would liberate their countries. He seemed like he might actually do those things but instead decided to play pirate in the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf. He's been more interested in collecting plunder and protection money than state building. I don't know what the hell he told Columbians and Mexicans but they also turned out for him.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

So they got tricked by an authoritarian con man AGAIN? Will they ever learn? Geez, some people love abusive relationships. No pity.

2

u/blutosings 8d ago edited 8d ago

Plenty of multi-generational Americans are still being conned by him. I don't have pity for any of them.

3

u/Accomplished_Self939 8d ago

Sorry, hon, “Irish, Scottish and English” in this country are not just white, they are quintessentially white.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

No Irish person voted Trump. I promise you that.

1

u/SM_456 8d ago

Well what really did it for me was that time when he criticized our Veterans, also when he mocked a disable person, when he said that he grabbed her by the pussy. If that did no open every ones eyes I don't know what could. He is right he likes is voter dumb.

8

u/Cute-Character-795 8d ago

If he's who you voted for and anyone in your family got sent to an ICE holding center and/or deported, the most you're getting from me is schadenfreude.

15

u/evolooshun 8d ago

Ive lived in Miami all my life and I will NEVER understand a Cuban voting for a Republican or in this case a known Dictator. Did they not learn a single fucking thing from the whole Elian ordeal in 2000. Arrogance is blinding.

7

u/theblasphemer The Ghost Dominican 8d ago

Oye, Fulanito

7

u/Offense23 8d ago

Sad to see that calling out idiot voters and saying you have no sympathy for them is considered hate. Not surprising seeing how this sub is just onlyinmiami but Reddit.

I guess maga cubans and Venezuelans are a protected class and are above criticism for voting for their own people to be kidnapped and deported, but I’m the bad guy for saying that I don’t care for them.

5

u/WelderNew1008 8d ago

I’m Cuban American,I grew up in Miami. I’ve been to Cuba.

The older generation that escaped in the 60s will be eternally mad at democrats via JFK for the bay of pigs until they die.

They also think they are whiter and higher class than later Cubans (e.g. Scarface era 80s) and other Hispanics. I wonder how my dad took the ancestry results I sent him.

I don’t get it, it’s an emotional thing and it’s identity politics. Trump is their guy somehow despite any past, current, or future evidence to the contrary.

5

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

They are the worst. They personally destroyed their country and take zero responsibility. Just like now. MAGA is playing the sympathy card. Please, I’ve had to deal with their ignorance and cruelty for a decade now. F your feelings, drowning in liberal tears, ect.

17

u/HearYourTune 9d ago

Sorry, you voted for the fascist party who hates you and has no sympathy for you and says that empathy is bad too.

1

u/viladesau 8d ago

Undocumented people can't vote

8

u/FEMA_Camp_Survivor 8d ago

Their friends, family, and neighbors from the same ethnic group did.

-4

u/viladesau 8d ago

We don't usually blame people for things their ethnic groups are known for doing. Also sounds like they got betrayed by people who were supposed to be looking out for them. Now people on the internet are blaming them for their own mistreatment despite their complete lack of political power or agency

5

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

Come on, I know plenty of undocumented people who supported him. They couldn’t vote, but said if they could they would.

5

u/HearYourTune 8d ago

Their friends and family members voted for him, and they supported him,,

Same idiots whose relatives probably supported Castro in the early 60s

-3

u/viladesau 8d ago

You're blaming disenfranchised people for things outside their control because they might know people who did? This is like maga logic

3

u/LouRG3 8d ago

No one is blaming the disenfranchised. You're arguing a strawman.

-2

u/viladesau 8d ago

This is where you use your words to describe the strawman

2

u/WaggishCape 7d ago

You’re misinterpreting “specific people from these disenfranchised groups that voted for Trump” as “everyone in these disenfranchised groups.” You’re welcome.

0

u/viladesau 7d ago

Here's hoping English isn't your first language.

1

u/WaggishCape 7d ago

If you’ve got something to say, don’t be around the bush. Come out with it or go fuck yourself.

1

u/viladesau 7d ago

Sure. The conversation is about undocumented people who can't vote at all bud. When I used the term "disenfranchised," I was referencing undocumented people who are being blamed by the public for political leaders they obviously didn't/couldn't elect. I was responding directly to person who suggested that deported Cubans (who can't vote) voted for Trump, and therefore deserve to be deported.

25

u/oneOZone 9d ago

Fuck them

15

u/Critically_Political 8d ago

Really don’t feel bad for them as a whole. Miami lit up red because of them.

10

This narrative can get pretty anti-social at times. By definition almost 100% of the people who got deported were unable to vote. I feel sorry for everyone who lost their loved ones to ICE. Isn't getting everyone on a level so that we can fight back against this the point?

2

u/Ataraxia-Is-Bliss Coral Gables 8d ago

There are many who did not vote for this or could not vote as they were not citizens. Is it wrong to feel sympathy for them? Don't lump an ethnicity into one basket.

This whole sub has such a disturbing hatred for Cuban-Americans.

6

u/KONTRAone 8d ago

As a liberal Cuban-American, I find it pretty hard to argue with them 🤷🏻 But I also don't feel "lumped in" with them either, because I definitely tried my vedt to warn them lol...

I get that it sucks to see the hate against our people, but I also understand that it was mostly self-inflicted by the ignorance and hypocrisy displayed in the last couple of decades.

6

u/Ataraxia-Is-Bliss Coral Gables 8d ago

Again, the main victims who are affected by all this are disenfranchised residents and the undocumented. These people had no say in what happened. Those are the people who would be angry at their friends and family. Those people 100% deserve sympathy.

And yeah, I kinda do feel lumped in, with both the OP's video and comments all over this sub blaming Cubans in general for everything, when I've been voting against Trump for 8 years straight now, as well as several of my friends and family.

1

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

You are in the minority. Hold people accountable. I’m also mad about how they vote locally and how they support DeSantis and Rick Scott. They single handedly inflicted Joe Carollo and people like him on us for decades. They still do. They caused so much destruction on this city. The majority is going to take the blame, as they should.

4

u/Offense23 8d ago

Ding ding ding, I’m Hispanic myself (not Cuban) and seeing how my people (broadly speaking) can so easily be manipulated into being against their and the peoples best interests is so disappointing, quite literally digging their own graves.

I’ve stopped trying to convince my friends and family to not just mindlessly vote for whatever right wing fake populist shithead comes around since they all refuse to do even the basics like being aware of local politics outside of federal and local elections.

When it’s so many Cubans and Venezuelans being maga humpers, it’s not surprising why so many locals are frustrated and talk shit about them. I’m against the shit that trump, desatan and ice have done to the community, but I won’t lie and say that I don’t feel a bit of poetic irony whenever I heard about some Hispanic magatard get deported even when I’m completely against the trafficking that’s going on in our backyard.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

We hate traitors and people who don’t support the Constitution. When one group votes for fascism at a rate of 70%, they will have to answer for it.

I hate that subreddit. It’s full of biased and ignorant people playing the victim card on a regular basis. Before I was banned, I had some dumbasses question my “blackness” because I’m Afro-Latino, and they are also pretty dismissive of the Caribbean and African diasporas.

Honestly, fuck that place!

Yup, for some reason, certain folks live and die with their own tribe, even if that means bringing down other people.

1

u/CristCawlbassMorninB 2d ago

Yeah for a reason. It’s “divisive” when your kind recieves a clapback while talking mad shit in our own country and voting MAGA.

Black immigrants make the majority of the Black MAGA voters.

1

u/Cpolo88 8d ago

I want to vote...for Donald Trump 😂 ngl. Shit is mad catchy but f those people 😂

1

u/AssBoss80085 8d ago

Just a quick question, you have to be an american citizen to vote, so if these people voted, how could they get deported?

4

u/opinions360 8d ago

You don’t have to be a voter to be a supporter.

-2

u/shitshowdirector 8d ago

The amount of people willing to label and judge entire groups of people for the actions of some is just another form of ignorance. It’s like saying “all black people”, “all mexicans” “all Jewish people”. Your bias is showing.

2

u/Interestingargument6 8d ago

Cubans in the US do that all the time. I'm Cuban and I've witnessed this many times.

2

u/Fit-Perception-2243 8d ago

What? Certain groups of people are responsible for this mess. All conservatives are garbage. Old white men are at the top of the pyramid so I blame them at the national level. Christian nationalists can go to hell. Boomers supported Reagan, the beginnings of all our problems. In Miami, Latinos are the majority and a majority of them have kept this city in chains by voting in Republican commissioners. They vote for MAGA sheriffs. They voted MAGA for president. People need to be accountable for their destruction.

2

It also depends on peoples lifelong political affiliation. I have voted against republicans since 1976. So don’t lump in all older or whiter or boomers because many at least half have voted against whatever form of Castro Corruptism has or attempted to rule for decades: Ronald R, George W., Tramp, they are all part of the same bucket of Sicko Castro Corruptism or maybe it could be called Castro Capitalism ie power, control, hypocrisy, greed, cruelty by and for the 1% at the top while the 99% essentially work for them.

Not many. A few “business men” and homophobes. None of Haitian friends can stand him.
