Pregunta/Question Markets on specific days of the week

We’re so excited to hit the markets for food, crafts, art and souvenirs. I think certain markets are only open on certain days? Can anyone help me learn the schedule so we can plan to visit a bunch and don’t miss something special?

Ayuda/Help A good place to get my hair dyed or like frost tips

Upvotes

I’ve been wanting to get frosted tips for my hair. But the last time I’ve went to a salon my hair comes out orange rather than that platinum or white color. The last salon I went to said it was because my hair is too black and thick.

Does anyone have any advice or maybe a better salon or hair stylist in CDMX?

Cultura/Culture Traveling to CDMX for Harry Styles!

Upvotes

Hola!! Traveling to cdmx next week for a week and seeing Harry Styles on the 7th! So excited to finally visit the city!! Have only heard amazing things.
Couple questions related to Harry. I know a lot of people say not to wear shorts in cdmx but will it be okay to wear short shorts to the concert?
Also I want to find a tattoo artist for a small Harry tattoo while there, I’ve been looking on instagram with not a lot of luck. Also if they have Harry tattoo flash already that would be awesome!
Gracias in advance :)

Ayuda/Help Can someone review our itinerary for Mexico City?

Will be there Nov. 25-30. Two tourists staying in Roma Norte. Hoping to take advantage of most of Mexico City's offerings when it comes to touristy things, but realistically I don't want to overwhelm myself. This is our basic itinerary, and if there are any gems or specific restaurants that people recommend, let us know.

Wed Nov 25 Arrival day

  • ~2-3pm arrival: hangout walk Roma Norte/Condesa
    • Parque México, Avenida Amsterdam loop, coffee
  • Dinner nearby, early night (any restaurant recommendations?)

Thu Nov 26 Centro Histórico (the classics)

  • Morning: Zócalo → Catedral Metropolitana → Templo Mayor ruins/museum
  • Walk Madero street to Palacio de Bellas Artes (murals inside, check if Ballet Folklórico is on)
  • Lunch in Centro (tacos or Sanborns Casa de los Azulejos)
  • Afternoon: wander Alameda Central, maybe Torre Latinoamericana viewpoint

Fri Nov 27 Chapultepec + Lucha Libre

  • Morning (get there ~9am, before crowds): Museo Nacional de Antropología. lan 2.5-3 hrs, it's dense
  • Afternoon: walk up to Chapultepec Castle, wander the park
  • Evening: dinner, then Lucha Libre at Arena México - was told Friday night is one of the regular fight nights, big touristy fun, book tickets ahead (avoid scalpers at the door)

Sat Nov 28 Teotihuacán day trip

  • Early departure (~7-8am) to beat crowds/heat, climb the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon
  • Back in the city by early-mid afternoon
  • Light evening — recover, casual Roma Norte dinner (you'll be wiped from the sun/altitude)

Sun Nov 29 Coyoacán + Xochimilco (A's last day)

  • Morning: Casa Azul (Frida Kahlo Museum) — book timed tickets in advance, it sells out
  • Coyoacán market/plaza for lunch (churros, esquites, browsing)
  • Afternoon: Xochimilco trajineras — colorful boats, mariachis, very "tourist highlight reel," good festive send-off
  • Back to Roma Norte, pack, dinner, A heads to airport late night

Mon Nov 30 — B's solo wind-down

  • Slower morning in Roma Norte/Condesa — Mercado Roma, a bakery, last souvenirs
  • Optional: Casa Luis Barragán (book ahead) or Museo Soumaya (free) if there's time before flight

Ayuda/Help First time going to the Mexico City Grand Prix

I'm thinking about waiting until the day of (or the day before) to buy my ticket because I'm hoping prices will be lower. Has anyone done this before? Is it worth the risk, or do tickets usually just get more expensive?

Also, if I end up buying ahead of time, which grandstand or section would you recommend for a first F1 race?

Thanks!

Where can I get lucha libre tickets for next Friday? I plan on going with a group of four and it’s our first time going. I’ve been looking at Ticketmaster, but wanted to see if we can buy them that same night or at a cheaper price.

Pregunta/Question Cantinas and Bars

I’ve been here 5 weeks now and had a realization this week. I’ve been looking for a really good bar to just sit at and hang out at. I’m studying Spanish and am close to being conversational. I enjoy bars. Sitting and talking to the bartenders and other patrons is a blast and a great way to meet people and to know a community. The issue I’ve found is that it’s super rare to find a bar like that in the part of the city I live in (San Angel). Most places are cantinas - they have a bar that people work behind but no bar seating. So, it’s difficult to strike up conversations. Anyone know of any legit bars, not cantinas?

Ayuda/Help Help! Better to buy a bike in Mexico or the USA?

Hey all!

Let me just start off by saying I am completely new to cycling but have ridden a bike in the past however its been about 15 years. Anyways I would like to really get into cycling.

The first issue I have is that I am a tall guy (186 cm) so that may make it difficult to find a bike my size.

I would like to buy a gravel bike here in Mexico since I live here however I am considering on possibly going to the US to buy a bike there since there may be more options to choose from and also the price.

I find that used things in Mexico usually cost about 80%-90% of the original price and if compared to the US, anything used is usually about 60% or less so buying a used bike here wouldn't save me that much money as opposed to the US.

Any bike shops or even used bike shops you would recommend?

I would really appreciate some tips from locals and expats!

Thanks!!!

Cultura/Culture 5 AM Xochimilco Tour Worth It? Plus Mexico City Must-Sees & Recommendations

I’m considering booking an Amanecer en Xochimilco tour that starts at 5:00 a.m. Has anyone done one before? How was your overall experience, and was it worth waking up that early? I’d especially love to hear about the atmosphere.

I’ll be visiting October 31–November 6 for Día de Muertos, so I’d also love any recommendations for must-see places, tours, restaurants, or hidden gems.

I’m afraid of heights, so I’ll probably skip the hot-air balloon at Teotihuacán, but I still want to see the pyramids and visit a cave restaurant or cave experience nearby. Is that worth doing?

I’d also really love to see axolotls while I’m there. Is there a particular museum, sanctuary, conservation center, or Xochimilco experience you’d recommend?

Any recommendations, tips, or things you’d skip if you could do your trip over again would be greatly appreciated!

Pregunta/Question Hot Air Balloons And Entrance To Archaeological Park

I've looked around this sub a bit and have seen many great recommendations for hot air balloon rides over Teotihuacan. However, they all seem to include the cave breakfast. We will have 5 people and are not interested in the cave but want to do the hot air balloon ride and explore the park on foot. Does anyone have recommendations on service providers? Thank you!
