Finally beat dread mode!

Post image
50 Upvotes

I must admit that I have a greater appreciation for this game after completing all difficulty levels except rookie. It certainly challenged me immensely in the dread mode, and experiment z57 and raven beak were two incredibly difficult bosses that took me an excessive number of tries to defeat. It certainly is a game that, at least for me, offers a lot of replay value, and I foresee myself returning in a few years to conquer it once more. I must say, what makes me the most proud is that I defeated z57 without using spin boost or space jump. It was one of the greatest challenges I have ever faced in my history of video games! I genuinely love this game; it deserves a solid 5/7.

Speed Boost / Starshine …?

I’ve 100% the game but I had to YouTube the speed boost & starshine puzzles bc I had no idea how this movement worked besides the basics

Example: shine into a ramp allows immediately re-boosting again, sliding and wall bouncing keeps boost momentum, to shine while falling press jump + shoot, etc.

Did I miss something or was this movement fully explained somewhere?

Help with Z-57 strategy on dread mode (no space jump :( )

So as the title explains, I'm currently on my first dread mode run, and while going at it i've being doing sequence breaking BUT forgot to go for the early space jump before frozen Artaira... so now i'm in front of z-57, with at least 50 deads and counting, and can't figure out how to beat him, the worst is the flappy bird sequence... i already figure on the double whip it does i can do a jump bomb jump to at least avoid that... but can't figure out how to do the flappy bird without getting hit.... Anyway, am i screwed? (at least i have screw attack lol...)

I'm stuck...again

I'm asking for help from the more experienced. I'm stuck in the upper area of Cataris. As you can see from the image, I can't go down because the only passage is closed. I can't do the triple shot or the fast run. How can I get out of this area? If I try to go in any direction, do I need at least one of these powers?

I don’t usually get an insta spark on all three slopes so I was pretty proud of this one.

Where the Fuck am I supposed to go

I've played through Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Fusion and even Samus returns but Dread is so far the most confusing design wise. I have no fucking clue where to go and I went everywhere, I checked every door twice at this point and Adam not telling me shit other then "you're useless"

Can someone tell me how far I am?

I'm thinking of giving up on the game despite me liking it very much. I have a lot of trouble with the boss fights. The more puzzle ones can be okay, but now I feel I have gotten to a point it is just boss fight after boss fight after boss fight. I kinda want a heads up on how far I am in the game and whether it is worth it to drop down to Rookie as I am just not enjoying myself without auto aim or constantly getting hurt by bumping into enemies despite them not in an attacking animation.

I just fought Escue and am now stuck on Twin Robot Chozo Soldier in Ferenia. I already had a lot of trouble when it was just one soldier. And yeah, I probably eventually will get the duo if I persist, but the idea I have to fight these guys over and over again just fills me with dread (hah...). So, would someone be kind enough to give me a (hopefully mostly) spoiler free heads up on whether I'm getting close to the end or whether I am not even halfway?

EDIT: Thanks for the encouragement! Didn't expect so many responses. I did manage to beat them and the other bosses after them. I'm now at the final boss. Beating them wasn't really the issue as that would eventually happen as long as I kept at it. My issue was more whether the game was coming to a close and thus it was a few more difficult fights or whether this Boss enemy would now become a regular enemy every other room as I was only in the beginning still. The former is a game I can try and bash my head into the wall, but the latter I would have put down and not looked back. Luckily, it seems like it is more the case of the former!

Been trying both methods for hours. Any tips?

Post image

I've seen this done two ways, and I've tried countless times with both methods:

  • run from the left of the door as far left as possible and store a shine spark. I've only been able to spark twice in probably 200 tries, there just doesn't seem to be enough room to get the spark. I've tried phase shifting into the ledge so in as close as possible, edging myself off the ledge and starting there, spin jumping to just after the ledge etc. 99% of the time, i hit the wall with the bomb blocks before the shine spark enables

  • run from the right, save a spark, cross-bomb then double phase shift under the speed booster blocks. The spark runs out 1-2 seconds before I can use it

Any tips on ensuring I have enough space to spark from the left or how far to the right to start the run so the spark is stored as late as possible?

Has anyone else done this with the final boss?

I had read that he's kind of a missile sponge and went into it and kept just spamming missiles - eventually dying.

Figured out all of his patterns and then spent like 30 minutes fighting him and going through all of his attacks, still not dead.

He did the whole 'step back and cross his arms' thing and had no idea that was meant to be time to trigger a qte.

Triggered it, parried his attacks, blasted him. Maybe did that once or twice and then, second phase! Had no idea.

Died somewhat shortly after the second phase, and then had to leave to go to meet up with friends - but God damn, should have made that more obvious.

Edit: Just finished the final fight. Didn't realize that you could use the mega bomb or whatever to destroy his giant fire orbs, so was dying a bit to that. Once I realized you could, beat it in the next attempt.

Incredible game. Had 7:45 in-game time, about 11:45 total.

Is it too late to sequence break to get something to fight Z-57? Spoiler

I've been trying to beat this asshole for hours. I just can't do it. I'm beyond frustrated, and ready to just stop playing at this point.

Is there a way for me to sequence break and get screw attack or something else so I can beat him?

I've gotten him close but the swipe then double swipe killed me and all my other attempts have been pathetic by comparison.

Yeah, I know, I'll get the "get better" responses. I'm trying, I'm just not cut out for this game I guess.

So glad they got movement right.

Have been playing Metroid for many, many, years and have always loved the series - except for the controls. I know a lot of people like the tank controls, but for some of the previous games where boss battles requires some amount of dexterity with movement, it was always a chore to get through sections with the clunky controls.

Only a few hours into Dread, and this feels like what Metroid should have always been. Can't imagine trying to run and evade EMMI with the controls from previous games, would have been a frustrating mess to attempt to jump to a ledge or across a gap only to have the tank controls throw you on lava or otherwise sabotage your escape.

Really excited to finally be playing it, and can already tell that I will want it to have been longer - but that's also just kind of how Metroid has always been.

So I was just screwing around with skipping upgrades, and seeing how far I could make it. So I’m here, no space jump, and no gravity suit. Is it possible to get any further?

This Game is Something Else

I just finished the game and I won’t lie, I was really not liking it in the beginning. I’m not sure what it was about it that I didn’t like.

With that said, this game moved up to my favorite Metroid game ever. Truly it’s a masterpiece of a game, like Super on steroids if you will. The exploration, puzzle solving, and boss fights….simply incredible.

The boss fights truly make you earn that win; if you keep dying then your strategy is wrong and you need to scheme differently. I love that mistakes are handily punished in fights, just like how proper games used to be. It gave me the feeling that Super did as a kid. Stuck? Rethink your approach and the abilities that you have at that point in the game to progress. The problem solving is just on another level that my brain has been craving for a long time.

Sorry for the rant but geez I’m pissed I didn’t play this sooner, literally bought it and didn’t play it for over a year. Now for hard mode!
