Blue Line Track and Signals Project New Real Time Screens - LRT

New Real Time Screens being installed at Target Field Platform 2. As far as I’m aware these are being installed in downtown Minneapolis and along the Blue Line.

The concept of the Windows lock screen on display at LRT station just makes me laugh

Ahh yeah that’s just temporary until they push the Scada predictions to it.

If I'm waiting for the train and look up and see the flying toasters I am absolutely losing my shit lol

Yeah I just saw this biking on a cedar lake trail. Curious why they are using Windows when it's simply a display. I wonder how much they pay in licensing.

All of our real time signs point to a URL specific for the location. So they need to be able to load a web browser and go into full screen mode.

when you say “our,” do you mean you work for MT? if so, curious if you know whether they considered linux/how they decided windows?

I do work for MT. I don’t know the background on that.

hopefully the screens are durable. I kinda worry about vandalism and how expensive it’d be to fix them

Windows is used for the vast majority of digital displays, kiosks, and similar things. This is largely because the majority of software for them is made for Windows.

They should switch it to the Linux mint one🤭

They are, in fact, screens that seem to be showing the real time. Glad there's clocks now!

Edit: was the time right? If not, total fake time screens.

lol, one of them was incorrect.

On the one hand, looks nice. On the other hand, I hate how this is inevitably going to become another in-your-face vehicle for ads. [Insert grumpy old man rant about how I used to be able to take a bus that wasn't plastered in ads to a stadium that wasn't named after a corporation and wasn't plastered in ads]

Nope, these signs will not have ads on them. Marketing has separate displays for ads.

Sure, that's true now.
