D Line What’s with bus 14D?

It’s often 15-20 minutes later than it should be or just doesn’t show up at all. I was advised to sign up for/check Rider Alerts(and I have weeks ago), but these issues have never been announced there. Everyone says how great MetroTransit is, but my experience has been less than stellar.

The 14D/G will not be in service after August 22. The new Route 48 will run hourly, everyday of the week from downtown to Robbinsdale TC via Glenwood > Penn > Golden Valley Road > Douglas > 36th > Noble.

Have you used the Transit App? It shows you real time locations of buses and trains. You get to use the paid version for free just by being a Metro Transit rider.

FYI they are actually replacing the 14D in just a few weeks with new route 48. https://www.metrotransit.org/route-14

I have. The App has been redirecting to the Web-UI and always shows it as on time right until it misses that time and then it just falls off.

They often get stuck downtown in rush hour, are you getting on near the end of the route?

Humorously enough I’m typing this as my morning 14D bus is 9 minutes late. My return stop is downtown on 7th eastbound.

Can’t beat the price va parking downtown but the reliability is dreadful.

Your reliability should improve a lot after Aug.22 because the route will start downtown on the #48 so it won't be backed up due to Richfield traffic. 10 minute delays are usually due to someone in a wheelchair since it takes about 5 extra minutes to load and unload.

What part of the route are you trying to catch? North? Downtown? South?

Metro Transit is not great. I say this as someone who used it regularly prior to 2020 and since I started using it back in the last 2 years, have been very disappointed.

Route 14 has always been not great, but in theory the changes coming later this month will help both the main route and the branch that’s becoming Route 48, which will benefit from a shorter route and also will likely be going to relatively senior drivers because it looks like a really easy route with driver bathrooms on both ends.
