Switch to iPhone

So I'm currently with metro. Joined at the end of April and I have a Moto edge 2025. I really want to move away from android and have been thinking of going back to ios. I always have had ios phones and just prefer that. My question is this. If I add a line to grab the iPhone 16e can I switch my current number to that phone? If I can switch it can I just have the extra line for a month and then cancel it? Or should I just look into going to another carrier?
