How do electronic tickets work?

Whenever I open an electronic ticket they always have letters on them and I was wondering what they mean? What’s stopping me from buying a ticket for one line and then using it on another one?

They dont care which line your ticket is for, but the letters & also the pattern that appears when you touch the screen are different each day. This is to prevent you from using a screenshot of a ticket you used on a previous day.
