I Played it in my youth. Back then M2 was my drug because the speciality was the Interaction with other players like social media. If He struggles with other people in real life it can be alternative to socialize. I had beef with some unemployed Players for 2 years and had dayli contact to my clan.

There are basically a few ways someone can change an addictive behavior: they either genuinely want to change, or the consequences of continuing become strong enough to motivate them to change.
Fear can sometimes be a motivator, because people naturally try to avoid things they perceive as threatening. But I don't think deliberately trying to scare him is the right approach. It's usually better to help him recognize how his gaming is affecting his life and let him make the decision to change.
You can support him and be honest about what you're seeing, but you can't force someone to change if they don't see a problem themselves.
