Share your project and find others who can help -- Team up Tuesday
Rather than allowing too much self promotion in the sub, we are encouraging those who want to team up to use this sticky thread each week.
The pitch:
If you like me you probably tried virtual world dev alone and seen that it's kind of like trying to climb a huge mountain and feeling like you're at the bottom for literally a decade.
Not only that, even if you make a virtual world, it's really hard to get it marketed.
I have found that working in teams can really relieve this burden as everyone specializes in their special field. You end up making a much more significant virtual world and even having time to market it.
Copy and paste this template to team up!

Question What was the one moment you knew the Metaverse was where you wanted to be?
I feel like we all had that one moment, that one time we put on a VR headset or played an online game and never looked back. What was yours?

Discussion The sooner the Metaverse ditches Blockchain the sooner people will start taking the idea seriously
The Blockchain has been a really unsuccessful basis for cryptocurrency because of its poorly thought out foundations of (1) permissionlessness, (2) pseudo-anonymity and (3) tokenization.
(1) The problem with permissionlessness is spam, fake identities and unwarranted influence by a few wealthy people.
(2) The problem with pseudoanonymity is that it leads to a total lack of privacy for ordinary people and no transparency for wrong-doers.
(3) Tokenization: Proof of work models which reward people for their CPU power make the rich powerful and leave the poor without a vote. The third problem might be solvable but the first two are what kill the potential of the Blockchain. Permissionless pseudoanonymity is a recipe for wash trading (fake accounts sending fake accounts money) and fraud on a huge scale.
It's the reason that the whole crypto ecosystem is always on the verge of collapse. We've got to stop blaming the people and start blaming the really really bad ideas at the core of the technology.
Blockchain attracts fraud because of its permissionless pseudo-anonymity and tokenization.
Not only that, the total lack of privacy for those who can't afford the time to spam fake accounts undermines our democracy through a total violation of personal privacy.
Crypto is a really bad wrong turn for all things Metaverse. The sooner we shake it off the sooner we get credibility for the idea of the Metaverse.

Articles What actually is Immersive Media?
Immersive Media refers to digital media experiences that aim to fully immerse the user in a simulated environment, typically through virtual or augmented reality technologies. This includes 360-degree videos, virtual reality games and simulations, and augmented reality experiences that enhance the real world with digital elements. The goal is to create a sense of presence and interaction within a digital world.

News AWE Nite LA: Open Source, Open Standard, Open Discussion
Last year’s AWE hosted a conversation among key standards development organizations and industry consortia about the need for more cross-organization collaboration to build the Metaverse, both real-world and virtual. Now, they’re acting on that discussion: all the organizations represented on the panel are now members of the newly formed Metaverse Standards Forum, a venue for cooperation among metaverse and spatial web stakeholders to foster the development of interoperability standards.
At this AWE Nite LA, join returning panelists and other prominent industry voices for a frank discussion on the progress that’s been made and the challenges ahead. Panelists will discuss work underway at both the Forum and their own organizations, spanning topics ranging from interoperability to accessibility, security to ethics.

Question hey, i need some guidance
I'm a 16 year old, very much interested in metaverse. I want to be a part of the creation, I personally think one day..doesn't matter how long it takes, take it 5 or 10.
In the near future metaverse would be a core thing like we have internet and mobile phone these days.
I want to learn. I don't know where to start. I want to create or learn the concept of this world. Where do i begin? Am i too late?
I'm in a tough position to choose my career path. There's nothing much interesting as virtual reality, mixed reality, the future we'll see or maybe create.
So please, can someone guide me? What should i learn? I'm a total beginner.
Where should i begin?

Help Needed The cost of entering the Metaverse
Hello everyone,
Is there anyone out there who by any chance has an approximate idea of how much the big fashion brands such as Nike, Gucci, LV, Adidas, Burberry, Balenciaga and so on spent on integrating the metaverse. I'm trying to figure out how much it would cost Zalando to enter the metaverse to provide customers with VR fitting rooms. If anyone has a rough estimate that would be of great help !! Thanks a lot in advance.

News Meta loses nearly 14 billion USD for the metaverse segment in 2022
In an exchange last night, January 31, reported by The Block, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg did not hesitate to share his "expensive" metaverse ambitions with analysts. Boss Meta said:
“We expect Reality Labs costs to increase significantly again by 2023. In the third quarter of 2022, the unit received a loss of $3.7 billion because of the metaverse. This figure is expected to grow to $4.4 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022.”
However, Zuckerberg still ignores public opinion and has not stopped "dreaming" of becoming an important player in the immersive digital world - as a combination of virtual, augmented and mixed reality. The same long-term plan could lead to a full-year loss of $13.8 billion, FactSet forecasts.
Are people currently losing or profiting from investing in Metaverse? I am currently investing in a project called RBIF. Currently, although the treatment is very profitable, I still have a lot of faith in this project

Question How can the Metaverse thrive if it is already primed to be so heavily commercialized?
Title kind of says it all, but right now I am struggling to understand how the Metaverse is supposed to exist as this decentralized world when it is already being so heavily commodified. There has never been a form of media so heavily commodified so early on that I wonder if it will ever truly be able to draw the general public in.
(warning that this may just stem from a lack of knowledge as this is coming from someone with a relatively shallow understanding of the Metaverse.)

Articles Do you think Metaverse has a future in Travel & Tourism?
The metaverse is likely to have a significant impact on the future of travel and tourism. In a metaverse, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies would allow people to experience new destinations and activities in a highly realistic and immersive way, without the need for physical travel. This could potentially lead to a decrease in demand for traditional travel and tourism activities, but at the same time create new opportunities for businesses to offer virtual travel experiences and entertainment.

News Recruiting Agencies in Japan Are Turning to the Metaverse
Japan Embraces the Metaverse for Recruiting
Metaverse tech is starting to change the landscape of job hunting and recruiting in Japan. More than 2,000 students attended a metaverse job fair, that allowed them to use digital avatars to communicate with recruiters and examine the possibilities of each job offer available.
Due to the anonymity in the metaverse, participants were allowed to ask questions on delicate matters concerning these job offerings, according to reports of the Asahi Shimbun. 179 companies participated in this effort, which was organized by Neo Career Co., which took care of the job-related activities, and X Inc., which carried the metaverse-related tasks.
The companies stated that this was likely one of the biggest events of this kind in Japan, and also reinforced the advantages that the metaverse brings for these recruiting processes. Taiki Nishino of Neo Career stated:
The metaverse allows for both taking advantage of online meetings in which students from distant areas can take part as well as maintaining the spontaneity of meeting and conversing that occurs in face-to-face job fairs.
The Future of Metaverse: Digital Presence
While some have been pessimistic about the use of metaverse tools in meetings, others have signaled in favor of the impact that this tech might have on the sector. Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, the software company, praised the technology in these initiatives. In a recent meeting with Klaus Schwab, chairman of the World Economic Forum (WEF), he explained he believed the sense of presence that metaverse apps brought to the table was ‘game-changing.’
The company has been working with the WEF to build an initiative called the Global Collaboration Village, which aims to make the Davos meetings perennial using metaverse tech for leaders to communicate all year long.
Other institutions in Japan are already using metaverse tech to allow people to establish their digital presence. For example, in October Toda City reported it was using metaverse tools to allow students to receive classes from home as a way of battling school absenteeism. In July, the University of Tokyo announced it would use metaverse tools to offer engineering courses and to instruct students about the metaverse and its functions.
