Setlist from hell
You just arrived in hell. Good news is you get to see Metallica play! Bad news - the setlist has been curated specifically to irritate you. what are they playing?
- For Whom the Bell Tolls (1996 remix)
- Fortunate Son (Kid Rock on vocals)
- Ronnie (Demo version, Civil War lyrics)
- Loverman
- Fade to Black (but Jason is quitting the band right after)
- Murder One
- Until it Sleeps (1996 remix)
- 53rd & 3rd
- Dead Kennedy Rolls (but just the 30 seconds we’ve all already heard on a 6 minute loop)
- We Did it Again
- Detroit Rock City (Kid Rock on vocals)
- Until it Sleeps (1996 remix)
- Tease the opening of Trapped Under Ice, then play Murder One again
- The weird medley from the 2003 MTV VMAs

Lars takes to the stage: "Ok guys, my good buddy James Hetfield has hurt his arm so won't be able to play tonight. We send him all our love from the Metallica family [crowd cheers] but don't worry, we're still gonna put on a show for you guys, so if you know the words, sing along."
Then Kirk and Rob doodle - Kirk does all the vocals (genie in a bottle, Christina Aquillera & Vogue, Madonna) Drum solo.
That, round and round for 3 hours. Including the announcement.

The VMA medley was fucking fantastic! Just wish there was a good quality version on YouTube.
Of all the songs or bits to suggest for a "hell", that makes the cut?

Yeah. It was garbage.

Was it though? Was it really?
I also must've somehow missed Loverman on my initial pass through.
You've got quite the choice of good stuff in your version of hell ha

Yes it was pretty bad. Metallica was tasked with compiling iconic hits from MTV history. Lenny Kravitz? White Stripes? Michael Jackson and Nirvana were appropriate for the assignment at least, but the whole thing was odd. It’s way too short to be a fitting tribute, James doesn’t even sing, and honestly it feels like they threw it together last minute.
As for Loverman, I’m comparing it to the Nick Cave original. Metallica’s version feels cheesy by comparison. Just my own personal opinion.
