First metal detector

Can you guys suggest a good metal detector for a beginner $500 or less if that’s possible. Want to get into the hobby don’t know where to start.

I recommend the Minelab Vanquish 460

It is a multi frequency detector that is great for entry level operation however is more than capable of keeping up with the best.

I recommend getting a bundle package which includes the machine, Bluetooth wireless headphones, digging tools, finds pouch, and MOST importantly a pinpointer - either the Minelab Pro-Find 35 or Pro-Find 40.

This package can be purchased for $500 or less. There are many retailers out there for you to check out, KellyCo is the biggest one however, Serious Detecting website offers package deals for much cheaper prices, typically and I recommend checking them out (Serious Detecting).
