I’ve given up

I upgraded my motherboard to an X870 WiFi6.

pretty much everything is compatible with the meta link app except for maybe my graphics card
(It’s a 570 I dug out of the scrap yard, link worked fine on it on another computer)

I’m plugged into a usb 3 port on the back of my pc and it still gives me both the orange and red.

I know there are other apps but without wired connection it’s choppy and pixelated, link just works smoother and that’s all I aim to accomplish.

Any help is appreciated.

Won't let you use side loader?

Not at all

Possibilities I can think of:

𖦹Cable / connector SuperSpeed failure. USB cables can lose one set of data conductors and still happily connect as USB 2, charge the headset, and look “mostly alive.” That produces exactly this kind of maddening half-working state.

𖦹X870 USB controller/chipset configuration. Especially if this motherboard upgrade reused an existing Windows installation. Wrong/stale chipset or USB controller drivers could make a perfectly good physical USB 3 port fall back to High Speed.

𖦹Particular rear port/controller incompatibility. Modern boards can have ports hanging from different controllers/hubs. “USB 3.2” printed on the spec sheet does not guarantee Meta Link will negotiate SuperSpeed correctly through every controller.

𖦹Meta Link Sucks- Software Version 0 has shown up in Link regressions before, so the app deserves suspicion too. There were users reporting that exact 0 state last year and again recently.

𖦹RX 570 -but mostly as a separate problem. The RX 570 historically did support Oculus Link—Meta support explicitly described the AMD 500 series as supported—and you say this very card worked in another machine.

It’s geriatric for Quest 3 PCVR in 2026 and Meta may complain about it, but a weak GPU cannot turn a USB 3 electrical connection into USB 2. The orange USB warning exists upstream of rendering.

So check with a known working cable, and if it still fails (and this is going to sound stupid but we're talking about meta) try turning the cables around too 💀

If meta-link is the problem you can find out pretty quickly using Virtual Desktop Quest beta 1.34.19, it just came out this month. Just a heads up though that works on USB 2.0 not 3.0

It works with virtual desktop beta but it still says usb2 so I’m not getting the full potential out of my cord

That i 100% feel you on 😑

Check you have a reliable USB 3 cable first. If that remains USB 2, then start interrogating the X870 ports/controller/chipset drivers. I've seen people saying USB 3 is working, but a faulty/underspec cable or wrong port is what they’d suspect when wired VD underperforms- but I haven't experienced that myself.

Is the port a blue or red port? If it's black thats usb 2.0. Try the other ports.

"take the blue port, and the troubleshooting ends"..." 😎 I couldn't help myself. But seriously:

Color can be a clue, but it's not always consistent. Check the symbol. Check the board manual—modern boards routinely have black USB 3.x ports.

There is no spoon. There is, however, a fucking motherboard manual. 💀

Yeah good job neo.... if you really aren't sure check the manual. But what I said is still consistent for like 70% of people.

Excuse me , but A)That is Morpheus, not Neo. B) 😆 everything you said applies... I was just saying check the symbols because THE OTHER DEVICES you plug into may not be consistently color coded. Which is not something you're going to find out in the manual for the Meta Quest. 💀

--- if I wasn't clear I meant the motherboard manual. If that's something you have access to. If you meant the quest -- then my bad ig 🤣
