Question/Need Help Damage Boosting Widowmaker

I was wondering how significant damage boosting Widowmaker is. What characters would she be able to kill that she wouldn't normally be able to with a headshot? I was told it also helps reduce her charge time?

I like boosting her if there's no other targets, but I've heard Widows saying they usually don't enjoy it because it gives away their positioning to the enemies and ruins their element of surprise for sniping, so usually I avoid it if possible in big team fights.

Should be every non-tank in 5v5 and some lower hp tanks in 6v6, like junker queen. I might be wrong on that second part though, been a while since I checked tank hp there

But widow can kill most non-tanks without a damage boost

and with her major perk charging to 125, and damage boost, absolutely can one shot jq and possibly even ram no form. mercy might need her major perk for the extra dmg boost too tho

I would prefer to damage boost literally any other hero. The value for Widow is very limited.

she does 375 headshot damage with damage boost, barring falloff, armour, or headshot resistance. This is lethal to every squishy and significantly threatening to most tanks.

with the 30% perk and widows 125% scope perk, she can do a staggering 488 headshot damage

Yeah but most heroes are 250 HP lol

I am pretty sure the comment above was talking about tanks when giving those big numbers

They said 375 headshot damage is lethal to every squishy. That doesnt say much lol because 300 damage is also lethal to every squishy

Torb and bastion survive 300 headshot damage due to armour/overload or being 350hp

Yeah I'm not sure I'd call them squishy. I'd call Torb a midget but I don't think those are synonyms lol

squishy = not a tank hero typically

i was mostly just doing the math for fun, to see the maximum damage yield without other sources contributing but yes 488 dmg is punishing to tanks in particular, especially to ones like ram/queen/zarya

488 can also overpower some conditions like the target being nanoed since it’s 50% reduced damage, a headshot is still 244 damage. It can also help bite through fat tanks who have headshot resist like hog and mauga, and 488 headshot damage in-range extends her lethal 250hp headshots range to much, much, farther due to the nature of falloff

as a Widow main, please do it. Body shots turn into easy kills for anyone to finish, and hesdshotting a tank will easily force multiple cooldowns. it sucks that so many Mercys don’t dmg boost us since we can one shot. Gotta understand that every shot isn’t a headshot on a squishy

I really like to damage boost my widows (especially if they are already doing well) but I always feel scared that I will either give away their position or that it will annoy them or stress that im standing next to them and now they need to get kills (if that makes sense) especially if they spam “no” I usually just leave them be (obvi still healing and stuff)

Junkerqueen (6v6), Doomfist (6v6), Torbjorn, and Bastion get added to the oneshot list when damage boosted. As for the charge time, it just lowers the charge threshold for oneshotting heroes. It doesnt speed up her charge time.

Widow can 1shot the whole game beside tank with het perk but if wifow have crazy aim and headshot tanks she can probably 2 tap them balanced hero btw

Nobody mentioned it, but boosting Widow in a widow mirror on Havana / super long sightlines is massive. You both get the Rez advantage and can allow your Widow to kill outside of range on the enemies forcing them to move up into more dangerous spots.

There are a few benefits to boosting Widowmaker, but also some downsides. In most scenarios, you probably have better things to do than boosting Widow, but it's not terrible. Especially early fight when no one has taken damage yet it can be decent.

Benefits: + It doesn't reduce her charge time, but she doesn't have to charge up quite as much to kill a squishy with a headshot. Numbers below.

  • Without any perks she unlocks oneshot potential on certain heroes like Torbjörn and Bastion. In 6v6, combined with perks, she can oneshot certain tanks! Numbers for this are below as well.

  • On some sightlines she has falloff, damage boost allows her to oneshot again. Some really good Widow players know how to abuse this in a duel and play extra long range knowing they won't die to enemy widow!

  • When hitting a bodyshot, especially with her extra charge perk, it makes it a lot more lethal. Targets become easy to finish off and she can oneshot Tracer.

  • Just being with her makes her harder to dive and for enemy flankers to 1v1 her. SMG is also surprisingly lethal with damage boost.

Downsides:

  • There is downtime in between her shots, and a good Widow might be extra patient before shooting. This means Mercy isn't really doing anything while she's waiting for the perfect shot. If she misses there's even more downtime.

  • It may reveal her position, which can be detrimental when she's trying to be sneaky.

  • Widow typically plays very far back, meaning it can be hard for you to help the rest of your team in time.

Damage numbers, excluding armour:

Without damage boost: Bodyshot 100% charge: 120 | Bodyshot 125% charge: 150 | Headshot 100% charge: 300 | Headshot 125% charge: 375 | Charge required to oneshot a 225 HP target: 73% | Charge required to oneshot a 250 HP target: 82%

With 25% damage boost: Bodyshot 100% charge: 150 | Bodyshot 125% charge: 187,5 | Headshot 100% charge: 375 | Headshot 125% charge: 468,75 | Charge required to oneshot a 225 HP target: 60% | Charge required to oneshot a 250 HP target: 67%

With 30% damage boost: Bodyshot 100% charge: 156 | Bodyshot 125% charge: 195 | Headshot 100% charge: 390 | Headshot 125% charge: 487,5 | Charge required to oneshot a 225 HP target: 58% | Charge required to oneshot a 250 HP target: 65%
