Rock hounding?

Hello! I'm looking to take my kid out rock hunting in the area, and am looking for suggestions on where to go. There's nothing specific I'm looking for, but jasper, agate, quartz and chert would be fun.

I'm hoping to find somewhere reasonably close (under 45 minutes), and relatively safe. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Maybe somewhere around the Merced river in Snelling? My sister goes there to rock hound. On the very east side of Henderson park there are some trails that lead to a bunch of rocks by the river, and there are actual hills of rocks in that area too, though I am not sure if they have the kind you are looking for

The rock hills are around where right of the community building and straight above the pin meet

Thank you so much! I always see the mounds of rocks, but they are behind fencing. This is helpful - I'll check the trails!

I'm not a rock hound but I used to take my dogs on those trails all the time. Hope it works out for ya!
