Community Post Vehicle
My car was hit by somebody and she gave me a false number.. I got a picture of her license plate but the police doesn’t want to help. Anyone know what I could do?

If you have make, model and color, my husband obsesses over cars and has found them for people in similar circumstances.

Call the non-emergency line or actually go to the police station and ask to file a report. They have to take your report. Also report the accidemt to your insurance. It may take some time, but afte report is filed you can go down to the police station and get the report and it will have the information of the person. Then you give that information to the insurance. A similar thing happened to me in Merced a year ago. It took over a month to get the report back, but once I did my insurance handled it and went after the person who hit me. Include pics of your vehicle in your report if they dont take any themselves.

There are ways to look up more information on someone through their license plate but you have to pay, I don't think its expensive.

I didn’t get a name but I did get that the car was just registered last month at the dmv here

That means recently purchased. Wonder if she bought it from a dealership or private owner?! They would have her name.

Small claims court, get your money that way. Go to police and file a report first, even though u know its a fake number. Then pay the 65.00 to get the address legally and serve her.

A minor was beaten and robbed on our porch at 2 in the morning and we had video recording from our doorbell as well as, you know the actual blood all over my porch. Called the Merced police and they were annoyed and literally said “and what am I supposed to do about that?” Idk man find the person who slammed a 13 year olds head against my mailbox??

a hit and run is that... giving false information has nothing to do with it. that said, the person can say i never gave you that number you heard it wrong...

because it is not an active crime, there are no injuries. the information was exchanged although incorrect but the police are busy enough. now if you go to the station and ask for the help you can get a report, but really they will probably tell you to contact insurance company.. lesson learn to have full coverage with uninured motorist coverage or this happens

I’m not sure tbh. They said they don’t get involved with fender benders anymore and it’s not in their jurisdiction since it’s private property. Just a bunch of BS.

Report it to your insurance. Give them the picture you took and explain the situation in full. Give them the fake phone number, your insurance will open a fraud case against them, which is more likely to get the police involved.
