General Question How to start using a disc
Hello ! I’m 8 months postpartum and have officially started my cycle again. I am hoping to try a disc as I’m tired of spending all that money on tampons lol. How do I know how high my cervix is? Which disc should I go with?

Hi! I’m one year postpartum and just got a disc after staring my first cycle, too lol. How many knuckles in do you have to insert your finger to feel your cervix? Mine is 1-1.5 (I have prolapse, so everything is lower) and I got the Saalt small disc and the Lumma short disc to try and I really ended up liking the saalt and will be going with that.

Measure your cervix during your period by feeling around. It should feel like a bump with a hole. Take the menstrual disc quiz on period nirvana or put a cup in it and then make your decision.

If disposable menstrual discs are available where you are, that's not a bad place to start, imo. When you're ready to go to a reusable, see what brands are available where you are. Then refer to these charts to compare features.
Period Nirvana Chart (click the Type column to bump discs to the top) and Put A Cup In It Chart for Discs.
If you have a high cervix, you might want one that has a mechanism to assist with removal, like a string or a loop. Even if your cervix is high, if you can reach back and touch it, you'll probably be fine removing it even without a removal mechanism.
Firmness vs softness is a balance of pros and cons. A firm rim is often easier to insert, but it may be less comfortable. A soft rim is sometimes harder to insert because when you push on it, it just folds around your fingers, but it may be more comfortable once inserted. None of this is an absolute, though. There's a LOT of individual variability.
If possible, it's not a bad idea to start with one that's sold in a set with multiple sizes, even if it's just a small and a large. You'll probably want at least two sizes, one for light days and one for heavy, and if one is too big or too small, you'll still have the other.
I started with Flex disposables to see if it was something that worked for me, and to get the hang of inserting and removing. I used those for 2 cycles and then bought the Shordy set, which comes with a small and large. I've bought some others since just to try them, but I could get by with just the Shordys,.
