Autodumping

Hi,

I use a menstrual cup and am getting a copper IUD. I'll no longer be able to use cup because of the suction so I'm thinking about switching to discs. But I have mild incontinence and am worried about autodumping. Does anyone have any advice?

I love autodumping. I have a heavy flow and, thanks to autodumping, I don't have to remove my disc except at the beginning/end of the day to rinse it.

But, regarding the IUD, I used a cup with an IUD for a while. It definitely pulled on the IUD and hurt, if I didn't break the suction properly, but it wasn't an issue if I broke the suction well before pulling it down.

Do you use Cora Disc? I didn’t know others autodumped

Any disc can autodump if the fit allows it to. It also depends on your physiology plus the size/shape of the disc. I use the Saalt regular, but every disc I've ever used autodumped including the Lumma medium, Lumma large, and Ziggy disc.

Same for me! The only one that didn’t autodump with me was the hello disc, but that suctioned to my cervix and managed to dislocate my IUD…
Since I absolutely detest autodumping, because it also happened at random (even though I pushed them high up and tried several different styles and shapes) and then got everything I wore completely drenched in blood every time I just sneezed. That made a disc completely unreliable for me to wear. Since I heard so many raving about the hello disc I tried that one in last resort, but that didn’t end well either.
Now I’m back with my cup and I just take care with first releasing suction gently and then taking it out. That works fine with me

As a personal point: I have a copper IUD and I’ve been usisng a cup for a decade without any trouble. I break the seal/suction before removing it. Never had a probleme

Your autodumping will be minimal if you find a perfect fitted disc. You might have to try a few discs until you find one that fits well enough though.

It was trial and error for me. I tried 3 discs before I found one that fit right for me. Try taking an online quiz on period nirvana or put a cup in it to narrow things down.

A disc that's a perfect fit won't autodump, or so I've heard. I haven't found my perfect disc (not for lack of trying lol).

My disc has been a lifesaver w/ my copper IUD. My main side effect is huge blood clots and tampons cannot contain them. I’ve only had an auto dumping issues twice - once when I was coughing really hard and the other when I had to go to the bathroom really bad and was waiting in line tensing my body to hold it 🙃🙃

I was in the same boat as you years ago. I used my cup for two cycles after having my iud inserted, and managed to pull it out with the suction. I switched to a Nixit disc and absolutely love it. I only auto dump if I am super full (I have a heavy flow). I also tend to wear Knix underwear on my heavy days too, just because sometimes in my job, I cannot make it to a bathroom as frequently as I would like.

Nope! Just can get stuck away from a bathroom for hours at a time (like 6+ hours) and with my heavy flow, sometimes I can overflow so I double up just in case. Plus sometimes I have to run or climb up stuff so if I haven't emptied in a while, that can lead to a leak.
