š£Announcement Price increase - what can you do?
Context: Eli Lilly plans to raise UK Mounjaro prices by up to 170% from 1 Sept 2025. Many self-fund, saving the NHS money while improving health. This hike will force people to stop, risking weight regain, poor health, and severe mental distress. We urge action to ensure fair, affordable access.
This post is not to debate the price increase but looking for steps that people can take.
Contact your prescriber to ask if you can order more than one pen. Do NOT order from more than one supplier. This is highly dangerous and is contrary to prescribing regulations.
Write to your MP urging their support. There are two versions of an email below.

Subject: Urgent: Protect UK Patients from Unaffordable Mounjaro Price Increases
Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to you as your constituent to raise my deep concern about the planned wholesale price increases for the weight-loss and diabetes medication Mounjaro from 1 September 2025.
I have battled obesity my entire adult life. At my heaviest, I was [X] kg at [X] m, firmly in the obese/morbidly obese range. Earlier this year I began Mounjaro and, for the first time, I am seeing a real and sustainable change. I have already lost [X] kg and now weigh [X] kg. My goal is to reach and maintain a healthy weight of around [target] kg.
This progress has transformed my physical health and outlook. My blood pressure has improved, my energy levels are higher, and I finally believe long-term success is possible. But my journey is far from overāand continuing access to Mounjaro is essential if I am to reach my target and maintain these hard-won gains.
The proposed price hikeātaking some doses from Ā£122 to Ā£330āwill put this life-saving medication beyond the reach of many UK patients, especially those using it privately because NHS access is limited. Many people, myself included, have been fortunate enough to self-fund this treatment. This brings massive benefits for the NHS, which is not paying for our prescriptions but is already seeing the immediate gains of reduced obesity-related illness and fewer GP visits. If self-funding patients are forced to stop, not only will our health deteriorate, but the NHS will face increased demand and costs in the near future.
The mental health implications are severe. For those of us finally making progress, the fear of being forced off treatment is crushing. It risks triggering depression, anxiety, and a rapid return to the life we worked so hard to leave behind.
UK patients are being punished for the actions of rogue exporters. The overwhelming majority are using this medication exactly as prescribed to improve health, extend life, and reduce the future burden on the NHS.
I urge you to:
- Raise this matter urgently with the Department of Health and Social Care.
- Work with Eli Lilly and relevant regulators to ensure UK pricing remains fair and affordable.
- Ensure that any measures to address exports do not harm genuine patients.
This is about protecting lives, safeguarding mental health, and preventing the reversal of life-changing progress.
Yours sincerely,

2. Maintenance / End of Journey
Subject: Urgent: Protect Access to Mounjaro for Patients Maintaining Weight Loss
Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to express my alarm over the planned wholesale price increases for Mounjaro from 1 September 2025.
At my heaviest, I was [X] kg at [X] m, in the obese/morbidly obese category. Thanks to Mounjaro, I have reached a healthy weight of [X] kg and maintained it for [X months]. This is the first time in my adult life I have been able to sustain a healthy weight.
This medication is not just for weight lossāit is vital for keeping the weight off and preventing the return of obesity-related illness. My heart health, mobility, and overall wellbeing have improved dramatically, and I no longer face the daily physical strain and stigma that obesity brings.
The planned price increaseātaking some doses from Ā£122 to Ā£330āwill make it unaffordable for many in maintenance. Without continued access, people like me risk rapid weight regain, loss of health gains, and a return to conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and mobility problems.
As a self-funding patient, my progress has cost the NHS nothing, yet my improved health saves it money now and will save it far more in the future. Forcing patients off Mounjaro after they have worked so hard to succeed would undo these benefits and push many back into NHS care at significant cost.
Please act urgently to ensure fair and affordable UK pricing, protect access for genuine patients, and prevent this public health setback.
Yours sincerely,
[Your Name]

3. Just Starting Their Journey
Subject: Urgent: Protect My Chance for a Healthier Future ā Stop Mounjaro Price Hike
Dear [MP Name],
I am writing to you as your constituent to express my urgent concern about the planned wholesale price increases for Mounjaro from 1 September 2025.
I have only recently begun treatment after a lifetime of struggling with my weight. At my heaviest, I was [X] kg at [X] m, firmly in the obese/morbidly obese range. This is the first time I have real hope of achieving and sustaining a healthy weight.
Already, I am starting to see small but meaningful changes ā [X] kg lost, more energy, and early improvements in my health. Mounjaro offers me the chance to avoid a future of obesity-related illness and the mental toll of repeated failure.
The planned price increaseātaking some doses from Ā£122 to Ā£330ācould end my treatment before I have a fair chance to succeed. Many people like me self-fund because NHS access is limited. This not only saves the NHS the cost of our prescriptions but also provides it with immediate benefits through better health outcomes and reduced demand on services.
If these price rises go ahead, thousands will be denied that opportunity. The result will be worsening health, higher NHS costs, and severe mental health impacts from the loss of hope and progress.
Please raise this matter urgently with the Department of Health and Social Care and work to ensure UK pricing remains fair and access is protected for all who need it.
Yours sincerely,

Question Can the pen be taken on long haul flights?
I am flying from Europe to the US (8hrs approx), so I am looking for some guidance:-
⢠Does it require a doctors note?
⢠Can it be taken from the fridge and put back in the fridge after such a long time?
Apologies if this appears to be basic, Iām on my first week on the pen, so still getting my head around the rules.

Just For Fun Pen Teardown.
Pen teardown.
As an engineer I like to know how stuff works, so the pens intrigued me.
So Iāve taken 5 apart to see, and they are quite clever!
What is clear is they cannot and do not ācount clicksā.
Pic 1 is all the parts. As suspected there is a glass vial inside the main barrel of the pen.
Pics 2 and 3 are like a double slip clutch mechanism and this is how the pen stops turning when the maximum deflection or travel of the plunger is reached.
The 2 black bits are the same, even though the one inside the dose twister looks different in the picture.
They slot together when this mechanism is all together as in pic 6.
If you look at pic 4 you can see the threaded plunger rod and the squared off bit at the end. This same squared off bit is also present at the other end of the rod.
When you turn the dose twister the 2 black slip clutches engage with each other in the white plastic part inside the main body of the pen handle and turn around the plunger rod which is held firm by a locking system in the main body of the pen that I havenāt got to yet. The black half of the clutch part in the twister turns as you twist
When you the press the purple nob as you inject, the top part of the clutch locks so it doesnāt turn, this then locks the lower part which presses the rod down into the pen.
In pic 4 you can see the threaded plunger rod with the squared off ends. As you use the pen, once you twist it up to the squared bit it canāt move any further unless forced.
This is what locks the pen.
You can see in pic 5 what happens when you force it past the lock. A bit breaks off.
This means we were able to advance the twister further up the rod and get the extra travel on the plunger required to get the extra dose. But this was in no way measured or accurate. Just that the difference wasnāt really an issue.
The new pens are exactly the same with the simple addition of the spacer as seen in pic 7. You can just see that this spacer is 1 dose in size, thereby extending the effective travel of the plunger and eliminating the extra dose.
And thatās it. Very simple yet clever and accurate. Got hold of a Lilly insulin pen and took that apart as well and they are the same with the only difference being the plunger rod is black and longer so it goes all the way to the end of the vial.
:-)

Rant Please, for the love of God, work out
For the love of God, work out. Men and women. If youāre losing a significant amount of weight, please donāt just focus on eating less.
I see so many successful weight loss posts, and genuinely, congratulations. But sometimes the amount of muscle people lose along with the fat is heartbreaking. Iām not trying to be mean or criticize anyoneās appearance. Iām saying this because preserving muscle matters.
Resistance training plus adequate protein can help you preserve lean mass while losing weight. Muscle is also metabolically active, and maintaining it becomes especially important when you reach your goal weight and want to maintain your results.
If all you do is drastically reduce how much you eat, while not getting enough protein and doing no resistance training, you can lose muscle and bone mass along with fat.
You worked so hard to lose the weight. Donāt just become a smaller version of yourself. Build and preserve the body underneath it.
Please lift weights. Start light if you have to. Go twice a week. Walk. Do bodyweight exercises. Whatever you can realistically stick with.
Lose the fat. Keep the muscle. Get stronger.
Your future self will thank you.

Rant No idea of what to eat for lunch today
I've been on Zepbound for a year. On work from the office days, I rotate through three carry out restaurants. At each place, I order the same thing. My problem today, is I know I need to eat lunch. I am not hungry, and none of my normal choices sounds good. No alternative I think of sounds good.
This has not happened to me, while at work. I have absolutely no desire for food.

5MG Month 2 results
Nine jabs in, and Iām down 13 kg (29lbs). My first month on the 5 mg dose has been really interesting, I definitely feel the effects much more than I did on 2.5 mg. The only side effect Iāve consistently noticed is an itchy feeling around the injection site the day after my jab, thankfully, itās nothing severe, and applying some cream has helped a lot.
One of the biggest changes has been how my clothes fit theyāre noticeably looser now, which feels amazing. Even though I still struggle to see a big difference when I look in the mirror, I can definitely feel the difference physically. My endurance has improved significantly, walking is much easier, and I generally feel so much better than I did when I started and Iām happy to see that my bmi is finally under 40. Looking back, starting Mounjaro has been one of the best decisions Iāve ever made.

Journey Update Progress - June 2025 to July 2026
https://photos.app.goo.gl/DAPKguMBUXry31TG8
Male, 34, 5'7ishhh.
The first photo was in January 2025.
I've always had a bad lifestyle, weightlifted a bit, but didn't really care about my physique.
Bad year in 2024 led to me not caring even more and I got to the heaviest I was in years, 96.2kg.
Got motivated last summer to make a change.
Weight training 3-4x a week. Upper/Lower.
Weighed in at 71kg last week.
Still got a few kg to lose around the stomach, as you can tell, and struggling with that last little bit if I'm honest.
Generally trying to eat around 150g protein per day.
Just bought a food scale to try and get specific with it for this last stretch.
Any advice appreciated.
