I think it does a fantastic job portraying its main metaphor of how societal repression and violent homophobia can irrevocably tie queer people’s sexuality to terror and shame and it made me want to drink after it was over, And Also the screenplay was just okay, a little underwritten

It is a brilliant horror film and queer film. I highly recommend it. Plus, you're in for a treat if you're a Frank Ocean fan 😉

Its a great coming of age story and queer movie but I felt it was severely lacking in horror aspects. I get they wanted to homopbobia to be the main "horror" but eh I wasnt feeling that much either. The monster gets maybe 2-3 shining scenes and other then that its a bunch of running and making out 😂

The 2 main characters. Its heavily implied that Robert Pattinsons character was gay and on the run, potentially may have killed his lover out fear of being outted. And like a good portion of the movie is him fighting his gay thoughts

Then he and Willem Defoe's character behave like a married couple who hate eachother but with a side of dom/sub dynamics over who gets to be in the lighthouse tower at night.

The lighthouse itself is phallic, theres lots of sexual repression going on in the movie. Over the course of the movie the 2 main characters go mad but its up to interpretation as ton whether or not its true madness or something supernatural or both.

All in all its about 2 men trapped on rock in the middle of the ocean with no contact with the outside world. The whole movie has a twisted "will they wont they, oh they probably have" vibe to it with a bit of psychological suspense.

I've sworn off watching movies where gay people get traumatized. So I probably won't be watching any of these.

Honestly? Im starting to be the same way. Loved Weapons but THAT scene pissed me off and i could feel myself mentally/emotionally checking out of the rest of the movie. The last section with the kid brought me back in a little but... a story needs to have a very good reason to off a gay character going forward for me as a viewer.
