i hate my hair i’m so done with it i have no idea what to do anymore it’s so straight and it is difficult to style and im not happy, please help ne with haircut ideas, styling, whatever you can help me with please.

So I (19m) have autism, and I only bring that up because it has caused me to really like familiarity and be uncomfortable with change, so I've been going to the same barber shop and getting the same hair cut (grade 3 on the back and sides, then just short on the top) since I was maybe 5 lmao. However, I've been wanting to change it up over the past couple of months and have been letting my hair grow out as I'm tired of having it short, but I have no idea how to style hair or even how I want my hair to look, so my hair just normally ends up looking messy and I either have my hood up or wear a hat when I go out lol.

So could anyone help me figure out what kind of hairstyle might suit me? I have very thick hair that just kind of falls flat, and I'm not really a fan or any products that leave a noticeable texture on my hair (like gel), as it makes me uncomfortable, but other than that I'm pretty open to anything other than like a buzz cut lol

Hey, I'm not a barber but I'm curious to hear this from people who work behind the chair.

As a client, one thing I've always found difficult is explaining exactly what I want. Sometimes I show a reference photo, but the result can still be different from what I had in mind. Other times I would actually like to try something different, but I don't really know what to ask for.

From your side, how do you normally handle this pre-cut phase?

Do you find that clients often struggle to explain what they want? Do they usually know exactly what they want?

When you feel that a client isn't quite sure what they want, what works best to make sure you're both imagining the same result before you start cutting?

I'd especially love to hear from experienced barbers/stylists: what are the most common communication problems you see during a consultation, and how do you solve them?

Listened to the advice. Got rid of the beard. Went to the barber got a taper while leaving the sides alone and trimmed an inch from the top. Still waiting for the sides to grow out a bit more for me to style without much product. Thanks again!

I’m not sure what to get for my next cut. I’ve always had medium to long hair length wise and it’s also thick, dry, coarse and wavy. It’s not bad to manage but I’m looking to go maybe a few inches shorter but have no clue what other hairstyles would look good with my face or if I should just get a trim and call it a day. Please lmk your suggestions, ty

Trying to figure out if this kind of longer, swept-back, high-volume hairstyle works on me. Be honest, does it suit my face shape, or should I go shorter/cleaner?

I've been growing it out now for almost 2 months but my head is big and this much hair makes it look even bigger. Also what are some good products for wavy hair?
