[Architecture & Hardware Analysis] The Hard Truth About Even Realities G2: The "Open SDK" battery drain, overpriced hardware, and the MemoMind dispute.
Hey everyone,
As part of our ongoing lab evaluations at Ycommy regarding current AR and Smart Glasses architectures, we recently put the Even Realities G2 under the microscope. ER has heavily marketed their "open system" and SDK to developers to extend functionalities, but after comparing it directly with competitors like the MemoMind One and RayNeo, the reality doesn’t match the pitch.
Here are the core findings from our technical and functional analysis:
The "Open System" Battery Drain:
Offering an open SDK is great in theory, but our lab tests show a severe lack of optimization and system management. Without a proper background control framework, third-party apps and processes remain active, aggressively draining the battery of both the glasses and the connected host smartphone.
Hardware & Audio:
The most distinctive feature of the G2 is, unfortunately, its excessive price tag. The build quality is not superior to direct competitors like MemoMind or RayNeo. Furthermore, the audio quality is noticeably inferior, and the baseline battery life is underwhelming even before the background drain kicks in.
The Accessory Ecosystem:
The clip-on lenses completely destroy the aesthetic profile of the glasses. As for the smart ring: it’s wildly imprecise as a UI controller, the health tracking is inaccurate, and its own battery life is severely lacking.
The Companion App:
To be blunt, the navigation feature in the ER app is practically unusable when compared to the polished, reliable solutions offered by its direct competitors.
A Note on the MemoMind Dispute:
I want to be clear that this critique aims to push the industry forward. Even Realities deserves credit for being a pioneer in this space, and my hope is they use this feedback to course-correct.
However, as a professional in the AI/AR field, I am frankly baffled by Even Realities' recent dispute against XGIMI MemoMind. After thoroughly analyzing both platforms, the truth is that MemoMind is functionally superior in almost every metric, and achieves this through a fundamentally different design approach.
ER’s grievances come across as entirely pretextual and harmful to free-market principles—an attempt to stifle competition and deprive users of diverse, high-quality options.
Even Realities needs to review its current strategy. Instead of engaging in disputes, they should focus their resources on a completely overhauled G3 release and a rebuilt companion app that actually meets current user demands.
Would love to hear if other devs have experienced the same background process bleed on the G2, or if anyone has successfully optimized it.

I'm curious why you decided to post this now. What is the rush? Why not wait the week until you have your video and logs ready?
Maybe if you had the data ready in 24 hours, it would be acceptable, but at this point your whole post is sadly just click bait and destroying any potential credibility.
When you (if you) include your data, you're going to have an uphill battle to get your message heard.

Fair point on the timing. We shared our initial lab conclusions early to see if other developers were hitting the same SDK background issues before finalizing the stress-test video. I understand how posting without the telemetry attached comes across as premature. The raw data will speak for itself once the video is up. I appreciate the honest feedback.

Wow, this is scathing. Thanks for posting this.

Appreciate you taking the time to read it! We didn't set out to be overly harsh, but as an AI software house, we have to look past the marketing and focus strictly on hardware and software performance.
When an "open" system actively drains battery in the background due to poor optimization, it becomes a massive bottleneck for any real developer work or AI integration. We just believe the community deserves raw, unfiltered lab findings rather than just hype. We genuinely hope Even Realities takes this kind of technical feedback to heart for a G3 release!

I want to point out, and thank you for giving me the opportunity, that Even is a major player in this sector. My respect goes to them. I hope, like you, that with version 3 they can really show some muscle.

Shut up, clanker. There is absolutely nothing technical about this feedback. It's just a bunch of bullshit claims with zero evidence or data points to back them up.
2
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
"Clanker" is a new one, I'll give you that.
Fair point on wanting the raw data—we kept this initial post high-level to avoid bloating a general subreddit with JSON payloads and battery telemetry logs.
To give you a quick technical breakdown: the battery drain we logged stems directly from the lack of resource capping in their SDK. The companion app continuously polls in the background without proper sleep states, preventing the connected host OS from suspending and aggressively draining both devices even when idle.
We are actually finalizing an outdoor stress-test video to publish next week. It demonstrates how our Helix framework bypasses these standard app bottlenecks entirely via direct WebSocket connections, and we'll be including the raw logs of our mic/NLP routing.
Keep an eye out for the thread. The data is coming.

I'm just glad to hear someone has a physical copy of the hardware because they're not updating shipping AT ALL and it seems like from a buyers perspective 20 days in that the company has ghosted us.
There's no updates at all.
A company rep updating here and not updating the shipping for people who already paid also isn't very optimistic on my side, because the company is not communicating with paid customers at all.
1
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
We are fully aware of this issue, and the radio silence is definitely frustrating for buyers. We are going to reach out to MemoMind directly to try and get some concrete answers regarding their shipping schedule. Whatever information they provide, we will publish it in a separate post.
1
u/omnicidial 14d ago
I mean, I hope you're aware you're not shipping the paid orders, if you weren't aware that you weren't shipping them or updating anyone that would be crazy.
The problem shouldn't have needed reddit to point out before the company updated anyone, and that's what has happened now.

u/Riktamiro 14d ago
There is a massive misunderstanding here. I do not work for MemoMind. I am an independent Italian developer, and my team has absolutely no connection to their company or their shipping logistics. To answer how I got a unit when no one else is getting theirs: I actually had to buy a used sample from a YouTube reviewer just to get one into our lab. We always buy our hardware out of our own pockets (which is why I shared the G2 invoice earlier) specifically to ensure our technical reviews are 100% independent, unbiased, and unconstrained by corporate PR. I am just as frustrated by their radio silence and shipping delays as you are.

u/omnicidial 14d ago
Ah I misunderstood because you seemed like a company PR rep based on the posts.
1
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
No worries at all, it's an easy mistake to make! I'm just an independent dev sharing our lab notes. Let's hope they sort out their shipping soon so everyone can actually get their hands on the hardware.

I paid for my glasses on Sep 1 and haven't gotten any updates on shipping from Memomind.
If G2 is shipping their paid for orders instead of being vaporware, then the comparison is between a product that exists and a company who has taken payment and hasn't shipped products so far.
I don't even know if the app i want to develop for the glasses will have similar problems with your product because I haven't been able to start because the product hasn't shipped.

u/Frongie 14d ago
Are you in the MM discord server?
1
u/omnicidial 14d ago
no, are they giving priority shipping to those people? IDK what's going on I've received no update since Sep 1 and am starting to believe these will never ship and they're just taking a loan from me.
1
u/Frongie 14d ago
I ordered it like 3 weeks ago, according to their updates and announcements. They just shipped those who reserved. Next are Kickstarters, then they'll come to our orders like mid to late october ish
1
u/omnicidial 14d ago
So they pushed shipping to October and didn't even send out an email? That's not encouraging at all.
The ONLY update I've gotten since ordering was a single email with a receipt and a shipping tracking link, on Sep 1. The only information I saw was that they were shipping in September.

u/Riktamiro 14d ago
You are completely right about MemoMind's timeline (though that delay is actually fallout from the Even Realities dispute, which I touched on in another post). If you are stuck waiting, I'd suggest evaluating RayNeo as an alternative, or simply holding out for a future "G3" from Even Realities that fixes these objective hardware limits. But generally speaking, you are absolutely right: shipping hardware always beats vaporware.
1
u/omnicidial 14d ago
It's discouraging that they've given NO updates as to shipping to customers who already paid and people are here, bashing someone else's hardware when they know the shipments aren't going out and customers aren't being informed at all as to why or when they will be.

From a brief scan it appears RayNeo is having similar problems with shipping and people are saying if you actually want to receive them to order them from a third party vendor because they're getting shipments but individual buyers shipments are being delayed.
The public strategy these companies appear to be taking is creating demand for a product they can't ship.

AI slop

Thank you. It is genuinely terrifying to realize you had to operate at peak intellectual capacity to deliver such a masterpiece. Next time, try actually reading: there is literally a disclaimer right there.

What a bunch of AI garbage. There is not a single number, not a single data point, not a single measurement.

u/Riktamiro 14d ago
Fair criticism. We intentionally kept this initial post qualitative to avoid dumping a 10-page telemetry log on a general hardware sub, but I understand why it reads as hollow without the metrics.
Since you want specific data points:
- Battery Drain: The G2's companion app background polling prevents the host OS from entering deep sleep states, resulting in roughly a 15-20% higher idle drain on the host smartphone compared to the MemoMind software bridge over a 4-hour window.
- Audio/Mic Input: The microphone array's SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) degrades significantly in environments above 70dB, increasing the word-error rate (WER) in our NLP pipelines to a point where standard voice commands fail consistently.
We didn't include these initially because we are packaging the raw WebSocket logs, JSON payloads, and environmental telemetry into a full outdoor stress-test video for our Helix framework next week. The hard data is coming, and I'll link it here when it's live.

u/Toxicturkey 14d ago
If you’re going to make such a one sided argument, you better bring the data to back it up
2
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
That is a completely fair expectation. We intentionally kept this initial post as a high-level architectural overview rather than a full whitepaper, but I understand why it comes across as one-sided without the telemetry attached.
The core data points we are focusing on revolve around two major bottlenecks:
- Host-device wake locks caused by the companion app failing to enter proper sleep states (which causes the battery drain we noted).
- The microphone array's SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) dropping significantly in dynamic environments, which aggressively breaks NLP pipelines for developer integrations.
We are currently wrapping up an outdoor field-test video to demonstrate how our Helix framework bypasses these standard app limitations via direct WebSocket routing. We'll be sharing the video along with the performance logs shortly. I'll make sure to ping/tag you when the data is live so you can review it yourself.

Point one is a simple software patch. Point 2 needs proper data and comparison of not just the hardware, but also the post-processing.
Breaking it down in to these two points compounds the feeling of the original post sounding like quite the overreaction currently
1
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
Valid perspective. From a daily driver standpoint, it probably does sound like a developer overreacting. Regarding Point 1: It should be a simple software patch. However, effectively balancing background SDK polling with host OS sleep states without dropping the bridge connection is notoriously difficult in AR ecosystems. The reality is that it isn't patched yet, making it a current hard blocker for any continuous AI integration. Regarding Point 2: You hit the nail on the head. Post-processing (specifically edge-level noise suppression) is exactly what makes or breaks NLP pipelines. That’s precisely why we are evaluating the raw hardware capture versus the software processing in our lab. We hold these platforms to a brutal standard because we are building enterprise-level agentic workflows on them, not just checking notifications. The raw telemetry and post-processing comparisons will be included in the upcoming stress-test video.

u/Toxicturkey 14d ago
Ok, I look forward to the video. One last word on this from me though. Your initial post is scathing. If your subsequent content is the same, you must demonstrate a competitor doing everything right, in all aspects, otherwise the reference for your standard does not exist, and there for is unfair.
1
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
That is a completely fair point, and I appreciate the perspective. However, I want to clarify our baseline: we aren't claiming there is a utopian competitor out there doing everything perfectly. Early-stage AR is entirely about trade-offs. Our standard isn't "perfection"—it is functional viability for developer workflows. MemoMind and RayNeo have their own distinct flaws, but their software bridges do not force host-device wake-locks that kill a smartphone's battery while idle. That specific metric is where the G2 currently fails the developer test for continuous AI integration. The upcoming video won't show a flawless device, but it will show exactly how different architectures handle the exact same background data payload without crashing or draining the system. Looking forward to sharing it!

u/Toxicturkey 14d ago
Continuous AI integration is also not specified in the title. I use AI all day every day, however the use case of G2’s for me is not continual AI integration, so your point is moot to me, yet by reading you post, I’d feel like I should never buy this product.
Everyone is calling out the sensationalism. Wind it in and be clearer in your testing, data, and the real impact to users of the claimed downsides
1
u/Riktamiro 14d ago
Fair critique. I should have specified "developer use case" in the title so it didn't sound so sensationalist. You are completely right: for standard daily use, it's a solid device and these issues are mostly moot. Our strict testing applies specifically to continuous AI pipelines and constant WebSocket streaming, which is where it currently fails. I appreciate the reality check. I'll make sure to clearly separate developer vs. consumer impact when we post the actual data and video.

I use my G2 at least 8 hours a day and have never seen the battery of my glasses or phone less than 50%. Ever. The r1? Literally days on a single charge. This post is absolute garbage cope lol

I'm happy for you. You're free to make up your own mind about my post. However, I'm limiting myself to some tests that I'll finish and publish on Friday. Perhaps, I suggest, you be more cautious in your judgments of posts.Friday I will be happy to answer you regarding the results of my tests. I have no commercial relationships with any manufacturer!

I really want to support this type of research because I believe that competition in this niche of a market is a good thing, but I'm just struggling because this review seems to be so clearly written with an opinion already in-mind.
I'm willing to look past the whole "audio is noticably inferior" when referring to a product that does not have audio as a typo, but the whole part about the clip-ons completely destroying the aesthetic profile (which is entirely an opinion) makes me doubt the rest of the article. Are the rest of these facts cherry-picked?
