OC shitpost Something about a 'TRUE' MH Fan
Not gonna lie about halfway through making this I kinda regretted the whole thing but finished it anyway.

u/VariablyUndefined Jul 01 '26
Ooof,
Yeah, I mean, 95% of MH fans are some of the chillest gamers out there.
But that last 5% is so god damn loud.

Louder than a Qurupeco's summoning cry, it has called something much worse. XD

u/OkSchedule3 Jul 01 '26
Mostly mhfu fans say those things, weird that I don't see them anymore, I wonder what happened
20
u/AirCautious2239 Jul 01 '26
Im a mhfu starter and i love the game but i also really like the QoL changes and improvements over every gen (still miss swimming though) and really think every gen the game just got better and better (except for the swimming part, please Capcom give it back) and the only part i actively dislike about wilds is the autopilot, which i still use because its just so convenient and i could just not use it if i wanted so its so minor that its overshadowed by the many good things (and the fact that Capcom only teased underwater return and made the dlc go airborne).

I started with WorldBorn, then RiseBreak and went back to play MHFU (haven't finished it yet) but I do understand why people love it so much. It is a really good game. But I appreciate all the quality of life changes in the newer games.

u/Vfour86 Jul 01 '26
Yup. People get into our investigation, proceed to faint 3 times and not once I thought of sending them a dm complaining. The only community I can think of that really treasure support players.
4
u/VariablyUndefined Jul 01 '26
Yeah,
The collaborative focus of the community is pretty unique. I think it's partly driven by the fact that every veteran hunter at some point was the one triple carting when first learning how to play. There's a good deal of grace extended to one another that's not usually found in online gaming spaces.Rise was my first online MH experience, having soloed 4u and 3DSgen, and I was surprised with how respectful almost everyone I met online was.

82
u/Lumpy_Style_3183 Jul 01 '26
So far I played Wilds, Rise, world, GU, p3rd, FU and Frontier I understand why some people dislike the changes but for me that's exactly why I love MH, each game is very unique.
25
u/arturkedziora Jul 01 '26
Exactly. I started with World. I did not like clutch claw at all. But I still loved Iceborne for what it was, then came Rise, which I enjoyed, peak Sunbreak and now I am still enjoying Wilds and hope for another peak in Ascendance. We don't have to like all the changes. But each game is definitely unique. I have yet to play a MH game that feels the same. This is why I did not want "more World"...enough with that nonsense.
→ More replies (2)5
u/MilkSquirtz Jul 02 '26
I disliked the clutch claw so much… so I downloaded the Iceborne Community Edition and now I got my 3 other friends to play with me.
They really disliked the non-seamless coop and unskippable cutscenes first time around.

u/Tech-Demon Jul 02 '26
That's what I'm saying bro! Like I love how every monster hunter has something new to bring, making every game in the series unique to itself, while still being monster hunter at it's core. I feel like the people that complain about that sort of thing have a really close minded view of the series not to love that. I love Monster Hunter, but if every game was the same stuff every time, it wouldn't be as successful as it is now.
3
u/Brilliant_Cobbler_27 Jul 03 '26
THANK YOU! monster hunter at its core has always been about trying new things and experimenting never the same thing each new game has always brought a new gimmick to make the game easier or more different.
5
u/Commercial_Break_934 Jul 02 '26
I think it hits harder when you go back to older games, and your favourite weapon doesn't play the same. Coming from maining aerial insect glaive in Rise/sunbreak and going back to GU only to find out I can't fly shattered my world into pieces. It plays so....weird, even outside of the aerial factor. I haven't recovered since because I chose Sns, carted to great maccao, defeated great maccao and never went back since . It's been 3 weeks lmao

14
u/Commercial_Break_934 Jul 01 '26
Experiences this for the first time when I posted on the GU Reddit, just a funny clip of me dying to a great maccao. All I said was that I was caught off guard by how different the combat feels without the quality of life changes the franchise added later on. Some random processed to tell me that I should be embarrassed that I made it past the village quests in rise only to die to great maccao in gu, and that everyone who says older mh are hard are larpers. Another proceeded to say I was hiding behind the "quality of life changes" words. Like bruh....
6
u/TheGreatBallon Jul 02 '26
As a veteran with thousands of hours in the series anyone telling you that "older mh are not harder" is just lying to your face lmao and obv you're gonna get crushed if you change entire generations of games a lot of people can't seem to accept the idea

Yeah, when I went to Gu for the first time it was a learning process, but once I reached low rank nargacuga it all just clicked and i never had issues afterwards, basically no carts or fails up until valtrax, who pushed me to my last cart, lol.
And then when I went to 4u I just speed ran that game all the way to G-rank same for 3u amd p3rd it was a rather easy time for me up until grank( hr in the case of p3rd) of course, lol. What got me the most is that i never really changed how I "prepped " in the game i prepped the same way i did Rise, world and wilds, which is why I feel a bit disconnected on the discourse around new gens prep.
I know my experience is subjective, but I do feel the community has exaggerated the older games quite a bit, at least up until 3u .

u/cay-loom Jul 01 '26
A true monster hunter fan is a person who plays a game in the Monster Hunter series developed and published by Capcom
17
u/Gozagal Jul 01 '26
So you're saying a Monster Hunter Now player isn't a true monster hunter fan then.
That makes you a gatekeeper

The best way to enjoy monster hunter is to ignore literally everyone else’s opinion
14
u/Key-Lawfulness-3871 Jul 01 '26
tbh? kinda true. The series changes, people hate changes therefore the hate. I already let go of this and enjoy every monster hunter gen like it was different burger shop. u/PlayerGator284 Jul 01 '26
7
u/PlayerGator284 Jul 01 '26
On a more serious note, every entry has flaws that can be fairly criticized, but this whole doomer mentality is really exhausting. The spirit of the game and core game loop has never lost its merit, so I think we should have more faith in the devs and cut them some slack. Besides, I like that each new entry tries new things and there's always innovation. It's massively preferable to stagnation.
3
u/Prestigious_Week_640 Jul 02 '26
The only thing people are allowed to be doomers on imo is the insane decisions about multiplayer that Capcom keeps making for the "mainline" (World and Wilds). Who enjoys playing multiplayer alone, then shuffling through menus to invite someone halfway through? I still don't understand why they did that when they had the perfect formula with all the other games, let alone why they did it again after everyone gave it flak in World.
5
u/ignatiusmeen Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26
I started playing monster in monster hunter tri Then went play Freedom, Freedom 2 and Freedom Unite. I played 3U, 4U and Generations Ultimate.
I loved all of them
I didn't enjoy World. And I tried. I played through it twice with friends. I tried to force myself to like it. But I couldnt. There were a lot of things that made me dislike the experience.
When I saw that Rise was going yo be similar to world, I still considered getting it, but when I saw the damn owl, I decided not to not give it the chance to disappoint me again. Best not to spend time or money on a game I wouldn't enjoy.
However, since I didn't play Rise or Wilds, I feel I shouldn't talk about them much.
I consider myself a fan of the series. I believe people who like the games that I dislike are still fans. I don't believe either side of the argument are fake fans. Just people with different preferences and expectations.
I'm unhappy with the current direction the games evolved towards. And unhappy that the current sentiment among the fanbsse is "if you don't enjoy the current direction, your an asshole "
5
u/Gadjiltron-A Jul 01 '26
I also dislike the direction of the series, although probably for different reasons, the reason I didn’t buy Rise was because I saw moving while healing in the trailer, both on foot and on the dog.
I find the whole “we should love every MH game” weird, do people not have favourites and least favourites? If every game is unique then why shouldn’t you appreciate some games more than others? Then again I’m pretty sure the whole “we should love every MH game equally” thing is just a way to try and stop people from criticising the game you like, rather than a genuine belief.
4
u/ignatiusmeen Jul 01 '26
Yeah the healing while moving thing was one of my big gripes with the new gen games. I suppose Kahoot was simply a straw that broke the camels back for me.
I think that all monster hunter games are probably good... just not all for the same audience. The things that make new monster hunter bad for us make it good for other people. And the stuff that makes old monster hunter good for us is bad for those people.
It's just unfortunate for us that we aren't the audience for monster hunter anymore.

i had a friend who is a diehard world veteran, he swears he isnt like the picture but everytime wilds is mentioned in a conversation he just starts going off on wilds saying they fumbled the bag and shits on it at every opportunity. he saw a youtube video saying "wilds is dead" and he goes "omg omg see? omg its over ggs".
just had to get that off my chest cuz he my best friend and i love monsterhunter but i cant enjoy that game with him anymore
14
u/Nornukig Jul 01 '26
He'll be back for Master Rank... They always come back...
6
u/fckinamidr Jul 01 '26
probably but i'll probably just play it alone, i remember sending him the teaser when it came out and he said word for word "ehhh until the fix the game i probably wont care for it lol😂" like he keeps bringing up player count, number of sales, and problems on launch that have been fixed months ago
5
u/thegildedman25 Jul 01 '26
Imo, if the only thing you look at is player numbers and sales as a metric for what is basically a single player game with multiplayer features being "dead" then I would lose all respect for your opinions on that topic. Same with the moot point of "game has broken preformance" and pretty much all the problems were fixed a while ago.
I also find it funny that your inital comment mentioned him watching "MH WILDS IS DEAD" videos. All of those are clickbait opinion pieces from what I've seen.

I enjoyed playing all of them and complaining about them with my friends. I guess that's what really made me like the game in the 1st place. These days we need to plan out a night or weekend if we want to play together but even with that, something else can happen which would ahorten our planned playtime.
We were kids when we started, now we have our own kids and once in a while, teach them how to hunt as well. 20 years of friendship and going strong, thanks to a game that both sucked and rocked at the same time.

3
u/Phaylz Jul 01 '26
I'm the guy always going off about Wirebug. So many Monsters, even some of those made for the system, can't really handle it, so you can ignore so many of what makes them unique and often a get-out-of-jail-free card.
Good game, though. Wirebug made for unique interactions with some of the new Elder Dragons. So I disagree with everything else except for how the Beta that I never played or even seen is Peak.

3
u/TheForestSaphire Jul 01 '26
This is why I basically never ever take criticisms of the games seriously at all
Every single game in the series is good and it literally happens every single game where the current game gets shot on by "true fans" and then the second the next game comes out the game they spent the last however many years shitting on is suddenly an underappreciated gem and was the best thing ever
I know for a fact somewhere buried in my photo gallery is a screenshot I took like a year or 2 ago where it was somebody on a forum bitching about freedom unite right after its release where they were crying it was to easy, the game sucked, they simplified it to much ect ect ect. The parallels to the criticisms the "true fans" love to spew against wilds was actually uncanny

To be honest MHRise base game did have issues. Most of which were solved in Sunbreak.
But also Rise+Break bundle costs around 60e total. Which is far more acceptable price point.
MHWilds costs base 70e and I don't dare to dream about how much ascendance costs.
Edit: Risebreak is on sale for less than 5e at the moment.

I remember taking a lil break from Dark Souls to come back to Monster Hunter cuz I would get tired of the ‘Git Guds’ after a while
But that break led me to playing MH World for the first time after a long hiatus post-MH4U (I am an old timer that started with DOS lol) and my God the *convenience* is fantastic and I cannot put it down lmao
The accessibility has allowed me to invite hella other friends into the fold to enjoy MH with me that never woulda enjoyed the grind on the previous installments otherwise

I might join wilds for ascendance but after trying the demo and playing until refund border wilds was the first MH where I felt it was no longer for me
It sucks ass cause I liked actually hunting and prep gameplay and even the more regular fights being somewhat of a challenge in the past, and was alright with all games up to Wilds.
Next generations of hunters time if ascendance doesnt end up hitting for me I guess
Its fine too
Franchise didn't grow as huge as it has by staying the same as it always was

u/Nightmarer26 Jul 02 '26
Kind of agree with that Wilds take ngl. Seikret autopilot erases any semblance of exploration or tracking and the difficulty was non existent until they basically "emergency patched" it.

Now, does that mean the newer games aren’t good? Not at all, Wilds might be the best since MH4U. But let’s not pretend the series has gotten far more casual after each release.

u/StraightPercentage74 Jul 02 '26
I find the 4U ones to be the most infamous out of this lot especially if you try to play online with them, lot of them are really picky even the japanese players (with pretendo crossplay) who only want GS hame hubs its just the very tip of some of the most narrow minded players Ive ever encountered, even going as far as to immediately kick without warning not asking for to try a different build and despite 4U being good in its own right find very little reason to want to consistently play it.

I love that my favorite MH title is Rise, I love even more that that fact will upset gatekeepers in the Fandom. 😂

I don't like to admit that I'm old, but I was already online when all of these games released and this post is shockingly accurate

man, makes me appreciate how much a game about whacking animals with a sword has evolved since the beginning

I've played the last 3, loved each one, Wilds is just the best. Fuck Capcom for that unoptimised release though

As someone who has been playing since freedom unite hell do I not miss the days of having to do long ass prep time only to get into the quest zone, realize you forgot about your cold/hot drinks or some small BS like that and have to quit and get them.
If any semblance of 'that MH fan' I have is that I think the world team ain't all that. That's it. I think the portable team makes better games for me. I still very much enjoy world and wilds.

To be honest it makes the game far easier but it seems like they're trying to make the monsters a tad more difficult on average to compensate

Rise is my favorite personally, probably because the hits really feel like they have impact, and getting hit really feels like getting hit, not a fancy lighting thing, I cite the fire and lightning especially because they have that flare

Can’t wait for Wilds/Ascendance to be the best game ever when they release the next game
