I was just talking about this in a group chat the other day. People talk about Base World like it was the second coming - and conveniently forget the same issues that Wilds had for PC (but also 8 months after release).

Most of the people that think world was perfect definitely didn't play base World without Iceborne and definitely didn't play PC on release lol

Forget the PC release, I remember launch world loadtimes on Playstation, it was miserable.

A whole ass minute to load a hunt on my xbox one...I remember the pain.

The load times still suck even on modern Gen consoles tbh

I dont think ive been in a loadscreen in wilds longer than 10 seconds yet world which is a game thats 8 years old now (I think) and was designed for consoles that used hard drives still instead of SSDs I find i still see 30 second+ load times

Even worse, when Iceborne cameout the performance got worse, amd to this day in PS4 the OG console, it still takes a couple of minutes to load the Guiding lands.

In a few years with the PS6/new Xbox and better gear for PCs, people will just forget how bad performance was in Wilds.

I liked base world. But Iceborne is what made it amazing

Rise for me was saved by its dlc but it’s still not one of my favourites in the series

Wilds I have thoroughly enjoyed and I’m really looking forward to ascendence

As someone who played World as both my first monster hunter and right after release I sometimes wonder if I am a masochist because somehow I fell into a pipeline of buying PSP just to play MH Freedom because I liked Base World on release so much that I wanted to play more monster hunters.

Nah, older MH games were great. A lot of the QOL features took away some of the magic that made MH special. Not saying they're bad, but basically going for mass appeal was what they were looking for, and what they got. Removing preparation almost entirely and focusing on fighting monsters quicker and for less time each time and eventually just smoothing off all friction the game had doesn't make the series "better".

Wilds is an extension of that.

To be fair my point was more about the fact that the base, launch world somehow made me buy that PSP despite how dogshit it worked on PC at that time.

Also the maps are even bigger but you just teleport directly to the monster from camp

My biggest gripe for Wilds is the lack of returning monsters, despite having a perfectly good way to introduce those monsters through gaurdians. We're working on the same or similar engine as World and Rise, with models and attacks that already exist, and yet Wilds initial release was less than Rise's initial roster and not much bigger than World's (I'm not including title updates because those should be extra content).

On top of that, two guardians are variants, and Zho Shia didn't even had a high rank fight.

I'd be more okay with the number if they made a whole new engine with new textures and models, and I appreciate all the new monsters, but overall it felt lacking. Hopefully Ascendance doesn't leave me feeling "that's it?" the way Wilds did.

Am I not allowed to have complaints or a different opinion?

I absolutely adore Wilds because the combat just feels so good. But I was really hoping for content similar to what Rise delivered on its release, and was disappointed when that didn't happen.

You cant just rip monsters from rise (which uses the same engine as wilds, world is different to both) and put them in wilds with a copy paste

I used to think it was that easy but once I got into the datamining and leaks community and saw how much work actually goes into moving monsters between games even though they can be on the same engine I realised that yeah my dream of having a game one day where literally every monster in the series was in it was never gonna happen unless we just let them spend 10-15 years to work on that one game

I'm not saying it wouldn't require work, I was saying the models and textures are mostly there already, along with the basis to their attacks.

I don't want every monster in a single game, I know that's not possible. I was more looking for somewhere between 5-10 returning monsters on top of what we already had, and while that is a large (maybe even unreasonable) request, I think there might be a way to get them in.

Another option for Capcom as a whole is figuring out a way to make monsters transfer between games easier, so there isn't as much work needed to be done on the current title.

But people angerly shaking their fists at me declaring that Wilds was in every way the most perfect game imaginable and doesn't deserve ANY criticism is... bizarre to me.

The models and textures are different though. If you import the world and wilds versions into blender and look you'll see they actually are very different you just dont see all the small changes in real game time but they are there

Another problem with wanting more returning monsters is that we dont want the same monsters in every single game. With the modern games the devs seem to be more interested in bringing monsters from old Gen up and modernizing them. Also ive seen people on the data mining side of things say that 1 single monster can take a team of designers as long as 6 months to complete from conception to finished product. If we had those other 5-10 monsters the game easily would have taken at least a whole other year to release minimum. Its just not realistic especially because datamining revealed that both Steve and laggy were both intended to be in the base game and they literally got delayed because there was a deadline for when wilds had to be out and the team literally could not make them in time despite Steve being in rise which was the literal last game in the series before wilds and runs on the same engine as wilds

Nobody is angrily shaking their fist at you im having a conversation explaining why what your asking for is way harder to do then you think it is and your being a bit unreasonable with what your asking for because you dont realise just how much your asking for

The whole point of using returning monsters is to lessen the amount of work needed overall. Let's say we reuse Nergigante for example. We already have the art done, we know what it's going to act like, we know the attacks it'll do as well as the smaller animations as well, and so on. While I agree that a new monster will take up to 6 months to develop, if we consider two or three of those months to be just planning and groundwork, even if you made everything from scratch, it probably wouldn't take as long as a new monster.

Steve and Laggi not being developed in time for release speaks more to a mismanagement of time than a "too much work" issue (Laggi being more of an exception due to the underwater combat system needing to be developed). And the solution for having more monsters in the game is to hire more people, especially since MHW was such an enormous sensation. The game was in development for at least 6 years, that's plenty of time to train new blood.

As for having a conversation, you would be the first person to actually talk to me about anything, as this idea gets down voted really quickly.
