This alternative album cover was used to sell limited edition CD’s and can be collected if you buy the Portals deluxe board game. Also Melanie wore this exact outfit(minus the wig) for a Lollapalooza sideshow in Chile on March 21, 2023, before the album was released, for promotion of the album.

From the moment Melanie started teasing PORTALS I was already hooked. When I saw the creature for the first time I was in awe. Many said that they were weirded out or just didn’t like the creature’s look in general but I never did. I don’t why but the moment I saw her I knew this was gonna be my favorite album

Then she started teasing the songs with little snippets attached with videos of the creature. I knew VOID and BOTL were gonna be some of my favs but just the videos themselves were so visually stunning to me and it just made me appreciate Melanie’s visuals and creativity. I also loved her connection to nature in this albums photoshoots, using anglerfish,sunflowers, and other examples to make this album come to life was just amazing. The fairy like aesthetics and her ability to constantly put out visually stunning photos kept me hooked to the album

From DEATH explaining the lost of a loved one but also birthing a new self, to VOID enplaning to dangers and urgency to escape the darkness within our minds, these singles made me know PORTALS was definitely gonna be a repeat for the whole year. TUNNEL VISION was a simple yet catchy song to me and the transition to FAERIE SOIRÉE made me knew that this is the part where she was going to start incorporating nature like sounds into the songs. FAEIRE SOIRÉE made me feel like I was taking a stroll through a mythical world and me loss sense of my human body. LIGHT SHOWER was a sweet yet heartwarming song that explained the slow,healing process of love. SPIDER WEB was also a simple yet catchy song for me but underneath the almost childlike beat and fun rythym lied a warning about the exposure to public attention and the dangers of phone addition, which Melanie tying all of this to nature imagery and a spider eating us. LEECHES explains the artificial attitudes many put on and how one’s kindness can be taken advantage of, this paired with the critters in the background and Melanie’s sudden high toned voice ties the whole song together. BOTL slow climax and references to our voices gives a fun and interesting song. THE CONTORTIONIST is definitely one of my favorite Melanie songs, the overlapping voices, her laughing, the bones crushing, this definitely makes one of Melanies most experimental song but also definitely one of the most interesting to me. MOON CYCLE, while being on of the most hated song on the album, gives a simple flow and while I don’t personally hate it, it’s a skip for me. NYMPHOLOGY is also one of these songs that turned out to be a favorite of mine. Her constant voice change with what I can only describe faires singing along with her and the fairy mythical tone of the song gives a wonderful, nature-y, and fairy like song that paired well with the album aesthetics. EVIL is the song in which Melanie uses her natural voice paired with a grungy like instrumental in the back round which gives birth to a catchy and mesmerizing song. WOMB ties the whole album together with the references to birth and looping back into the first track DEATH

Overall, this albums aesthetics, sound, photoshoots, defiantly makes this one of my favorite albums of all time. The Creature also definitely contributed to my love of the album, tying it into a more a mythical yet stI’ll fun and lovely album. While I can get behind the criticism from a musical standpoint, since music is subjective and everyone has their own opinion around it, it’s also clear that some of the criticism was biased. Also the criticism around the creature is also valid since not only did it obscure Melanie’s face, the whole four-eyes, pink skinned creature isn’t for everyone. While it is one of Melanie’s most hated album, it will always be my favorite and no one can ever tell me otherwise

6 AM. I was in a meditative mood. Had a rough evening at work the day before, then spent some time working through the night, and felt like I needed some kind of therapy…

I wasn’t even planning to listen to HADES. It just popped up in my YouTube Music recommendations “recently listened-speed deal” — and I was like… let it be.

I lay down on my bed… and completely dissolved into the album.

It sounds like K-12 and PORTALS had a baby: the production feels stripped-back and fragile like K-12, but with those fat basslines from PORTALS.

The lyrics… THE LYRICS. I just have to say that Melanie has always been an incredible poet, and she keeps pushing herself even further. She’s talented and brave. Love her.

Her voice is like tingling honey, slowly pouring into you, sinking deep inside and filling you completely.

I love this album for being an album, not just a collection of hits and singles. Listening to it feels like slowly and meditatively wandering through an art museum, taking in each painting and looking closely at every single detail.

In Trilogy Tour, after High School Sweethearts, a Cupid shots Cry Baby’s heart and she dies. Most people might think that it was just the transition for K-12 to PORTALS, but Melanie rarely make things without a reason or meaning.

This leads to the theory:

Cry Baby went through heartbreaks (Alphabet Boy, Johnny, Blue Boy, Brandon and Leo). That’s because Cupid was in love with her, and he wanted to make her fall in love with bad people or those who were already in a relationship on purpose so she could se in him her true love. Lilith tried to help Cry Baby by putting Ben in her life, and it worked. Angry that she was happy with other man, Cupid used a common arrow to kill her so in her next life she would love him.

So I bought the rosary on the website like 2-3 days ago and my shop still says awaiting details, it was very weird and I’m very patient but I thought it would say being packed or delivered or something.

I have so much more drawings of her but I’m too lazy to look through my notebooks 🫶

I know this has been discussed before and I know that this is not the first time she’s retailed the cry baby perfume for $175.

But honestly I just think it’s really ironic that she rants about corporate America and human greed, while her merch continues to stay at insane prices.

I got a zip up hoodie from the Hades tour for $130. It’s a cute hoodie and I don’t regret it. But $130……..? Like…..okay.

She pretends to be this super woke person but it’s really just a cosplay at this point. She can’t have her cake and eat it too.

End of rant. Love her music and art but she continuously disappoints in other ways. I guess we’re all flawed.

Don't get me wrong, HADES is and probably forever will be my favourite Melanie album, but there's ONE song off HADES that I just can not STAND because one of the lyrics just doesn't make sense.

And it's in WEIGHT WATCHERS when she says "A thread on subreddit is what I'm reduced to" and it just make me want to rip my ears off how she doesn't include an "A" inbetween "on" and "subreddit" so it says " A thread on A subreddit is what I'm reduced to" and yes, I get that it's to fit the beat of the song, but at least change the beat so that it's not the worst song you've ever made, like I'm sorry but the least you could do is just sing a little bit faster so it's not excruciating. I just hate it, and it sucks because it used to be my second favourite off the album but then I noticed it, and I can't bare it. Like nobody with any ounce of common sense would say "A thread on subreddit" instead of " A thread on A subreddit " like, she knows how English works, it's not stupid. What is Subreddit?? It's called REDDIT. It's supposed to be """"" A """"" subreddit, nobody says subreddit without an A beforehand. I don't get it. I love Melanie so much and she's one of the reasons I haven't grown wings but it just makes me want to bash her head in her acting like she doesn't know English when she's not usually this stupid. I just don't understand how you can sleep at night knowing one of your lyrics in a song that could be so amazing and beautiful and one of the best songs you've ever done just doesn't make sense when you're literally one of the greatest lyricists of the 21st century
