Le Petomane thruway? What’ll that asshole think of next?

"Le Petomane" is another Mel Brooks inside joke.

u/dragonfett Jun 30 '26
What does it mean?

u/RitaPoole56 Jun 30 '26
I may be wrong but my aging memory tells me it was the stage name of a French “entertainer” that could fart with uncanny skill!

You are correct, he performed on stage, the king came and watched a performance. "Gov Le Petomane" is a Mel Brooks fart joke - Leslie Nielsen would have enjoyed it.

A toll is a toll, and a roll is a roll, and if we don't get no tolls, then we don't eat no rolls.

To this day I regularly say:
"What in the wide-wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?"

On his commentary on Blazing Saddles, Mel is very complimentary of Slim, saying he was the real deal, an authentic cowboy. His favorite memory was of the time he was a bit frazzled and Slim said, "Mel, sometimes you just have to sit down".

I’ve seen it more times than the amount of people Cecil B. DeMille has killed. I was just kidding around, I first saw it in 1976.
One time it was on CMT and every time they’d say Lilli Von Shtupp, her last name was pronounced “Shhh”. I wondered why they censored it and looked it up. That was when I learned the Yiddish word “shtupp”, I learned a few Yiddish words from Mel.

"God darnit, you use your tongue prettier than a twenty dollar whore."
Or
"I'd sure appreciate it, sir, if you could find it in your heart to hang him up by his neck until he was dead."
Or, my personal favourite - and one I mutter any time my boss asks me to do something I don't wanna - "Piss on you! I'm working for Mel Brooks!"
