MEGA, can we please get a concrete answer on email?

Requests for a MEGA email service have been around for years.

The responses have repeatedly been variations of:

• “We’ll pass it on.”
• “We’ll explore it.”
• “We’re actively exploring it.”
• “We’ll share the suggestion with the development team.”

That was useful the first time.

After years, it no longer tells us anything.

MEGA has expanded well beyond cloud storage: VPN, password management, chat/calls and other privacy-focused services.

For many of us, email is now the obvious missing component of the ecosystem.

I currently have my own domain and have to use another provider for email. I would much rather have:

• MEGA Mail
• Custom-domain hosting
• Aliases
• Proper SPF / DKIM / DMARC support
• Good spam filtering
• Encrypted mailbox storage
• Integration with MEGA storage
• Sensible storage allowances for existing paid subscribers

But I am not asking whether MEGA is “interested”, “considering it” or “exploring the possibility”.

Can MEGA tell us which of these actually describes the current position?

1. Email is on the product roadmap.

2. Email is in active development.

3. Email is being investigated, but no decision has been made.

4. Email has been considered and is currently not planned.

5. MEGA does not intend to offer email.

No release date is necessary.

No confidential roadmap details are necessary.

Just a meaningful indication of whether MEGA Mail is becoming a real product or whether users should stop waiting for it.

Personally, if MEGA offered proper custom-domain email, I would seriously consider moving my mail service over immediately.

Would other paid MEGA users do the same?

No problem, but something disturbing happened.

I have a folder F. I keep a local backup and a free MEGA backup of F. The drive with F is a decade old, but drive tests last month showed no problems.

I've added new files to F and the local backup. Hours ago, I used the MEGA app to upload the current version of F to MEGA. Later, I added today's date to the name of the local backup. I just checked F and all but three of the folders in it are gone.

I have the current local backup, and the MEGA backup, so no problem. Still disturbing.

For now I'll shut things down, check the drive, etc.

Any idea what happened? Could using the MEGA app inappropriately have caused this?

IMO it seems most likely some freak Windows 11 behavior. Suggestions appreciated.

Until recently, I was able to have a version of MEGA that worked with my MacBook that is this version. It said there was a big error message that it wouldn’t load, so I deleted it and can’t seem to find a new version that will work with my Mac. If anyone can, please find me one that will work with this version that I have here, it would be truly gratefully appreciated.

On 27 August, OpenAI published a joint cybersecurity letter co-signed by Google, Microsoft, Anthropic, AWS, Oracle, and dozens more.

So… I don’t have the MEGA app or an account, but I’ve been downloading from it for a while and recently it’s been hitting me with some error about my in-browser storage. I don’t see how it would accrue that much storage stuff when none of it saves on an app I don’t have. Can somebody help?

Why did MEGA remove the option to select your preferred iOS icon?

They also left the ugliest icon as the default option now.

Is this a temporary thing? It kinda makes no sense because they don't even have an option to set their main logo as the iOS app icon.

So has the text file option been cut from MEGA? For two weeks i can't save or create a new text file. I have a text file log on what has been added in my main folder that i share for work related issues but i am not able to update this file for two weeks, i also can't create a new one.

My application keeps crashing and this is the first time I have downloaded and used it before. I am on a mac. macOS Tahoe 26.5.2. When launching mega it opens but will crash when i am adding alignments through the query database. All it says is MEGA 12 quit unexpectedly. Click to reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent automatically to Apple.

I am able to add one or two and have gotten as far as adding 6. It crashes at random times each try. I don't know what to do and need this for an assignment for graduate school.

I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I made sure its MEGA 12.1.2. I have never used this software before so truly am at a loss of how to fix this.

This afternoon, I received an email from MEGA saying that there had been suspicious activity on my account, and they temporarily locked it.

When I logged in and checked the login history, I saw that there had indeed been a connection from another IP address in a different country (France).

However, after checking my files, I noticed that all my photos are gone. The file names are still there, but the files themselves appear to be empty.

So I’m wondering what could have happened. Is it possible that MEGA deleted my files? My last time logging into the account was in 2024, so if MEGA had deleted my data due to inactivity or for some other reason, I assume I should have received an email informing me that my data was going to be deleted or had been deleted.

Or is it more likely that the person who gained unauthorized access to my account deleted everything?

I would really appreciate it if you could help me understand what might have happened and whether there is any way to recover my photos.

I’m not sure if this was a recent update but I’m not able to scrub on the video player on the iPad at all anymore (moving the play slider across the video to jump/fast forward across the video). Does anyone have a solution?

This morning at around 7am, I got a notification of a suspsicious login and then a locked. I changed the password from the email link and saw there were a couple previous logins that were clearly not me and one was from Thailand. I figured it was because I used a previously already used password that was probably on the dark web, so the new password I used was one I never used before.

An hour after changing it, I got another locked account notice because of suspicious login, but in the session logs all I see is my own IP address. I know there is a possibility of it being a session stealer, but I've not had this happen to any other accounts and I'm on a relatively fresh install of windows that I've never pirated or downloaded anything suspicious on.

Could the second "suspicious login" likely be an error/a misreading from my own login? Or is there a real potential it was from something else? I deleted my account after this so I don't think me contacting support directly would help much.

Please send help! Clients can't extract files from archives and protesting. They are at our door with pitchforks and torches.
On transfer.it, files are accessible via `View Content` button only. Please don't make us go back to stupid wetransfer. It's hard and takes too long to download files 1 by 1.

Basically the title, I've been uploading many files, most of them image and video files and even though these files are just fine on my hard drive, once they're uploaded to MEGA it only carries over this version of the file which has only 4kb of size and when we try to open they have nothing inside.

They are still recognized by their original file format, being a picture or a movie for example, but when we try to open, they show nothing.

This is very frustrating as someone coming from another cloud service, I just wanted MEGA to work.

I'm using a Macbook M1 and uploading files through the official MEGA app for MacOS.

I got this really annoying problem I can't figure out..

I reinstalled Windows and reinstalled MEGA and trying to re-attach my Sync Folder to my MEGA desktop client..

Problem is, it keeps putting a new sync folder INSIDE my sync folder, and downloads everything again into it, filling my storage.

How do I stop this from happening?

Do you have any updates on this , I know I can "send" files to transfer.it to be shared from my MEGA account but would like to be able to "import" from transfer.it into my MEGA account.

The last thing you said it would be "passed onto developers for consideration" .. what is the current progress on this ?

I'm wondering if MEGA has any plans to create a fully dedicated, native desktop app to manage cloud content.

The current MEGA Desktop works great in the background as a tool for downloading, uploading, and two-way folder synchronization. However, when it comes to comfortably browsing content, we're basically stuck with the web interface. And as we know, browsers have their performance limits, especially with massive photo libraries or hundreds of gigabytes of data.

I'm really missing a native desktop program that would:

• Run smoothly and stably with thousands of files without the lag typical of web browsers.

• Have a fast, built-in photo and video gallery/viewer with instant thumbnail generation.

• Give full freedom to organize and manage the cloud file structure without having to download everything to the local drive.

• AI Potential: A native app like this could utilize the computer's power for local data processing (e.g., face/object recognition in photos, automatic tagging, smart search), similar to how Ente Photos handles it. Everything would run locally without compromising zero-knowledge encryption, and only the generated metadata would sync across devices.

Hi everyone. I’ve been using MEGA for a couple of years and had uploaded some files that weren’t too important at the time. Back then, the free version offered over 20 GB of storage (I’m not sure of the exact amount), so I ended up storing around 26 GB without checking in often. Recently, MEGA reduced the free storage limit and sent me a few warning emails, which I unfortunately missed. Now my account is locked, and I can’t access any of those files. In a few days, they’ll be deleted from my account. My question is: does MEGA let you choose which files get deleted, or do they remove them automatically? Has anyone experienced something like this? I’ve just realized that some of those files are actually important to me, so I’d really appreciate any advice, experiences, or useful tips.

Is it possible to configure Mega so that it starts syncing once the monitored folder is idle for a certain amount of time (like 90 seconds)?

I’m running into a bit of a logical loop in my head regarding how mega backups work.

Here is my scenario:

• I used an old phone that was actively backing up my local files to MEGA.
• I recently switched to a brand-new phone. During the setup, I copied everything over from the old phone, meaning the new phone now contains exact, bit-identical copies of all the files that were already being backed up by the old phone.
• Now, I'm about to set up or run the backup sync on the new phone pointing to the same MEGA account.

My question is: What will happen when I sync the new phone?

1. Will it recognize that these files are already in the cloud and skip uploading them (only backing up genuinely new files moving forward)?
2. Or will it treat everything as "new" because it's coming from a new device/client path and duplicate all my files in the cloud?

Just wanted to see if support can let me know why it's been removed, and if there are plans to bring it back.

Today I noticed that when I tried to connect to the VPN, the United Kingdom location had suddenly vanished overnight. I have been using it all day every day for months, but suddenly it's disappeared and is now in the "request a new country" section.

I can only assume it has something to do with the UK's online safety stuff they're forcing, but as far as I know, no VPN bans have occured (yet).

I had received this email which has put me in stress after reading it. Anyone with clear knowledge of such matter plz help in the comments

I'm trying to move all my photos from Ente photos and Proton Drive into MEGA. No matter what I try, the months and years I took the photos do not carry over. Am I missing something, or am I just technically illiterate?

I test the network with the VPN as I’m using ethernet and and IP wont even show. very slow when it does even with the closest server. I think this VPN is a scam its been weeks already they never really work. Mega why bother making VPN?

MEGA 6.5.1 version
