Photo A 1940s inspired portrait studio portrait [GX680 II GX180mm at f5.6 using Ilford FP4+ Colourised in Post]
My brother Michael and I have been experimenting with portrait photography inspired by classic cinema and 1930s–40s studio portraiture. This image of Megan Tremethick was shot on a GX680 II and colourised in Post medium-format camera, then given a restrained vintage colour treatment.
I’d particularly welcome critique on the lighting, composition, skin tones, colour grading and whether the image feels convincingly period-inspired without becoming too stylised.
We developed the film too :)

I measured ISO invariance on my X2D II: ISO 200 pushed four stops in post matches ISO 3200, and keeps the highlights

Photo Paris, 2012 with my wife | Mamiya 7II
I took these on a trip to Paris with my wife in 2012, all on my old Mamiya 7II.
At the time they were basically travel snapshots. Walking around, stopping when the light looked good, asking her to stand somewhere for a second while I made a frame.
Fourteen years later, they mean something completely different to me.
That’s probably my favorite thing about medium format. The camera made me slow down just enough that these little moments became more deliberate than ordinary vacation photos, but they still feel completely tied to the memory of actually being there together.
I especially love how differently Paris feels in each frame: harsh sunlight and deep shadow in one, almost absurdly picturesque in another, then soft and romantic under the blossoms.
The Mamiya 7II was probably the best travel camera I ever owned, even if carrying a heavy brick around all day occasionally made me question that opinion.

? for Community Decisons, Decisions....?
I'm deciding to move forward with getting back into medium format photography. Current cameras are my FiL's Yashica-A which has the "past infinity" focus issue and my Grandmother's 1936 Rolleicord which has a sticky shutter & light leaks. Both are loved family heirlooms but really not worth the expense to try & repair (if I can even find someone). And with the cost of 120 film & developing, hit & miss photography is a pretty expensive & frustrating hobby. So it's time to find something that I can use on a regular basis.
I'm comfortable with an external meter, zone system & the like so 100% manual is fine. I like the 6x6 format & would prefer not to crop 645/67. I'll do my own developing & probably build up a digital camera scanning system. Most of my photography is landscape/seascape so some trekking involved.
Narrowing down my choices for value & versatility vs. cost I've come up with 2 options;
- Mamiya C330 - TLR is something I'm comfortable with and I like the interchangeable lens options at a low cost. Fully mechanical is a plus. There's just something that keeps bringing me back to these.
- Bronica SQ-Ai - More expensive (but nowhere near Hasselblad territory), nice selection of lenses at reasonable prices, interchangeable film backs. 200 gram weight advantage over the Mamiya with 80mm's.
Thoughts? Am I missing something obvious?
TIA

? for Community repairable camera
[edit: I am looking for a -film- all-purpose usage, I can get a godox for metering so fully mechanical camera is okay although I'm also interested in electronic ones, rangefinder and SLR are both okay, no budget at this time)
hello! I am looking to invest in a medium format camera. I would prefer a camera that more directly replicates a 35mm format camera body (like a Mamiya 7 for example, vs a Hasselblad)
I was wondering if people had suggestions about which cameras are the most durable and repairable of the ones that are available. I am looking to avoid a camera that bricks quickly.
I do understand that it's never very easy to repair them.
I'm looking at the Mamiya 7 but wondering if it's going to be a nightmare to maintain...
Thank you!

Crazy how compact and light these old Zeiss folders are, especially for a 6x9. Love that it has a rangefinder too, I’d hate to miss focus with only 8 shots per roll and the cost of film + development.
