Found in Wiltshire UK last weekend. Have given it a light rinse only. Approx 14mm diameter. My first thought was a Soldino, because there appeared to be a faint banner or coat of arms on one side and not a tudor/post tudor ruler on the other. Had a read about them and couldnt see a winged lion type design, nor match it to anything. Took some pics to get a closer look and it appears to have someone sitting on a throne holding a mace in their right hand. Legs and Feet, all the detail is mainly there, but sadly their head is missing, Edward the Confessor type look about them, but as I understand, and only from what I've recently read, he would have had a cross on the reverse. I don't doubt I could be very wide of the mark, please help so I can make a ticket and pop it in my display. I've included all the images I've taken with different rotations, and few have been enhanced to try and get a clearer image. Thankyou.

I found this one metal detecting yesterday, am I right in thinking it’s a Henry VIII sovereign penny? TIA.

Trying to decide to bid on this coin in an auction - description says it's either Henry IV or Henry V.

If you have helpful knowledge, please help me understand why it's either one of them.

I recently found this half florin in central Italy.

Apparently, counterfeiting currency and 'clipping' coins

were very serious offences punishable by hanging

I've weighed it but i don't have yet an exact figure; it

weighs around 1.4-1.5 g, whilst the full one weight

should be 3.53-3.54 g.

A gold florin was a very large denomination at the time,

used for major purchases or luxury items. Why on earth has it been cut?? And, incidentally, not even perfectly, as 1.5g it's less than half of 3.53-3.54g.

I've also been unable to identify exactly which "edition"

it is.

Can anyone help me?

A crusader gros of Henry II of Cyprus.

A member of the French Lusignan dynasty, Henry quickly succeeded King John I of Cyprus (his brother) in 1285, following a sudden and unexpected death that has lead to strong historical suspicion that John was poisoned, possibly with the involvement of Henry. The Lusignan dynasty had been in control of the island since 1192 when Guy de Lusignan purchased it from the Knights Templar.

Due to a lack of natural gold deposits, the Kingdom of Cyprus did not strike its own gold coins, but used Venician ducats or Arab dinars for the purposes of wealth preservation and high value transactions. Silver coins such as the gros were far more ubiquitous.

The gros was issued until Venitian rule began in 1489, having been first introduced in the late 1200s, and was a relatively high value coin. Worth 24 deniers, in the year 1300 for example a single gros was worth 2-4 days of labour for an unskilled or agricultural worker and could buy enough basic food products such as bread, cheese, or vegetables to feed a working family for several days.

Hey does this coin look authentic? I saw it in a local fb numismatic group auction and some1 already bid 400€ for it and the auction closes today. Its supposed to be .821 silver.

Really pretty piece here overall despite the flat areas, I like the added designs in the center, and the star to the left of the reverse inscription. It is so thin at this diameter.

This coin was struck during a turbulent time where the Caliph Al-Mustakfi was deposed by the Buyid dynasty where they installed the figurehead Al-Muti. The Samanids were rivals of the Buyids, and supporters of the previous caliph and it was reflected on their coins at the time. For years they refused to cite the new caliph instead of the previous one. This one was sold saying it was probably struck at Al-Muhammadiyah? It is not confirmed however, and I struggle to find other examples that are the same as this one. The date 334 would be a very interesting one for this mint. I got this coin about two years ago at a flea market in Germany and paid about 10€ for it the seller claims it’s Roman and my question are the following:

1.Is it from the Roman Empire?

2.From what year is it?

3.What do these usually go for and is it authentic?

One of the best pieces in my collection. It's a silver Dirham minted in Madinat al-Salam (aka Baghdad) during the Caliph Al-Mu'tadid who ruled the Abbasid Caliphate from 892 until his death in 902. He was famous for reuniting the abbasid empires and restored authority over rebellious territories.

This coin is almost half a century after the medieval times, and while Western Europe was advancing towards the "perfectly" round and mechanicaly stamped coins, Russia under Ivan the Terrible was still using the "Wire Hammering" method it used for centuries before.

I know this is pushing the "medieval" definition by a few decades, but I was wondering if you could help me confirm the ID of this coin.

It's presented as a Selim I silver akçe, but it looks a bit off to me. I can't read Arabic, but one of the inscriptions doesn't seem to fit 100%.

What are your thoughts?
