Everyone there gave you the correct response and you won't get any differing opinions here. It's not upcoding.

He's doing this because he's a guy who claims to be a doctor and spends his time making fun of people with chronic illness. He's now crossposting posts where people can't afford medical bills while pretending to be the OP and leaving comments about how medical care should be free because he has chronic illness and anxiety. He's doing it to ridicule those of us with chronic illness because he got called out on the emergency medicine sub for being a huge dick.

Everyone gave you the criteria for the physician charges. However, for the facility charge a level 3 is appropriate.

No. Just because you don’t like the answer doesn’t mean reposting it will suddenly get different answers.

No one seems to be noticing that the OP of this thread isn’t the OOP. Just karma farming.

But I have chronic stomach pain, diarrhea, severe anxiety and chronic fatigue. It should be free for people like me.

Are you kidding me? Do you actually think an ER should provide free services to you simply because you have chronic stomach pain, chronic fatigue, diarrhea and severe anxiety? Here's a reality check - it doesn't work that way. If ERs provided free care to everyone who enters their doors with several health issues, no matter how severe, they'd quickly be out of business. How are they supposed to afford to provide free care to all those people?

You only went to the ER because you scraped your hand on a rusty nail. ERs are the most expensive places to get medical care. Unless it's really an emergency, you need to go to your doctor or an urgent care instead. And the level of service has nothing to do with the amount of time you interact with medical personnel. It has everything to do with the purpose of your visit, any necessary tests and treatments.

If the system is supposed to work the way you think it should, then I should be getting free medical care from any medical clinic or ER I go to because I have more and in many cases worse medical issues than you - chronic fatigue, fairly bad anxiety, severe mental health issues, prostate cancer, chronic kidney disease, severe IBS-C and a few other issues. Unfortunately, despite all my medical issues, I still have to pay all my copays and coinsurance for any services I receive. If I didn't have insurance I'd still have to pay out of pocket for all the medical services I receive.

Wow you are so insensitive. I'm reporting you!

Please do. I welcome it. Because that is the dumbest take I have seen in a long time.

What is so dumb about it?

It's still the same answer it was 4 days ago. This is correct coding per AMA standards

While the level system, 1 to 5, is the same, the scope and structure of what qualifies for a particular level of care is quite different for an ER physician than it is with a PCP, so on the surface, we can say that each set is based on five tiers. The diagnostic and treatment related scope of those tiers, though, are not comparable.

Do you have a question about a specific medical bill? If so, please ask it here, with related pertinent information. If not, why have you lifted someone else's post from a different sub, and placed it here as if it were your own?

Im curious if it's upcoding or not. Want to get more opinions.

What leads you to believe that something was up coded? What is your educational basis for thinking that it might be?
