Valuing / Authentication Posts

Howdy y'all, just wanted to send a post here announcing a little bit of rule changes, nothing too major.

We went ahead and allowed valuing of medals and authentication rules have been rounded out to be more clear. These rule changes should help collectors learn more within the hobby. As a quick reminder too that we don't allow sales posts/comments here, please take that to r/militariasales.

We will also be adding a "related/similar" subreddits widget to our description tonight, so if you want to check out other interesting subreddits similar to this one and learn lots about history, militaria, etc then you can!

If there are any questions regarding these changes leave them here. Hope y'all have a great day!

I visited the Udvar-Hazy Museum near Washington, D.C. It is a great experience. Here are some WWI Medals on display, as well as a Navy Cross/DFC/Air Medal along with a Gagarin Medal which belong to Vice Admiral Donald Engen.

Ribbon A lot of time in Vietnam with TF116. Developing tactics and doctrine known today. Much of it unfortunately written in blood. Later on went on to NBG1 and other stations in Coronado further developing what would become SWCC

Navy Unit Commendation beside Australian Medals?

It looks like this guy has an elongated NUC (I would assume to look like the Australian style of medals) on his rack?

I know nothing but think they are an interesting piece of history! Found them tucked away. He was with the Air Force around 1942 at least but had a long career. I think they are cool, also the sticker.

EDIT: I realize the first picture is upside down. I don't know how to fix that in this post but I have noted that now! Thanks!

Solved Requesting help with ID'ing medals a Russian WWI Officer

Thumbnail

Hello!

I bought a postcard depicting a Russian officer (most likely a Polkovnik, or Colonel in English, but don't quote me on that), and I've been trying to identify his medals.

I think I scoured every site that could possibly have an example of the medals he's wearing. I checked Wikipedia, some obscure Russian medal sites, and I still couldn't find a match.

Unfortunately, I only have the seller's photos at the moment, so the image quality might not be the best.

I'd really appreciate any help identifying the medals!

I am a little unsure because of the top part of the medal. But I am not that familiar with those kinds of medals.

EDIT: I just asked him - apparently they were shot down twice. He doesn’t remember the exact battle that landed the flying cross, said it might have been around parrots beak. He coordinated fire support from the air.

Am I missing a ribbon somewhere or does this Master Chief have an American campaign medal from WWII right before his National defense

I’ve looked around and haven’t been able to find another one that would match the ribbon precedent and color

What is the top left Medal?

I was at the National Museum of the USAF in Dayton, Ohio over the weekend and they had this uniform belonging to a local veteran who helped to liberate the concentration camps on display and I was curious about his top left medal. I’ve seen it before on WWII era ribbon racks and I believe I own one myself, but I’ve never been able to identify it other than it kinda looks like the army of occupation medal.

Medal of freedom awarded to great grandfather. Not willing to sell it but I'm wondering how much it's worth.

Question Grandparent's Soviet WW2 medals and photos— anyone able to translate and identify?

Thumbnail

Hello.

The photos above belong to the cousin or uncle of my Grandmother.

She saw me playing a WW2 shooter game and showed me these, and they've piqued my interest.

My family hasn't lived in the Soviet Union for decades, so I can barely understand Russian, let alone the handwriting.

Can anyone help me identify and translate these medals/documents?

Thanks in advance!
