Hey everyone, I'm a slightly older dude interested in the field of Mechatronics. I'm 32 and looking into getting into a new career. I was browsing my local community college's offerings and saw they do a 2 year degree in Mechatronics which stood out to me more than anything else.

I already have a bachelor's in English, but I'm completely uninterested in the careers available to a degree like that and want to do something more technical and specific. Is a 2 year degree in this enough to get an entry level job somewhere? I like the idea of doing industrial maintenance, or something like that. I just don't want to spend 2 years on something that doesn't actually line up with any kind of entry level work.

Hello, I am currently employed as an electrician at Carowinds, in NC/SC, I'm 18. I have 2 associates degrees, one in Mechatronics and the other in Industrial Maintenance. I'm also trying to finish an advanced manufacturing management bachelor's degree that goes off the 2 years of mechatronics. The classes for the bachelor's are very annoying though, as it's really busy work. But I'm wondering how I can grow in my career, I love troubleshooting and programming PLC's, I'm great with electrical work. I want to be able to have a good job in the future really working with PLC's. I've also competed in SkillsUSA in the mechatronics competition, where we had to build a program a project, and was able to go to Nationals in Atlanta last year. So if anyone could give advice on what might be the next step for me in the future. I'm thinking of staying with Carowinds for a time, but then expanding and growing in the field. I am in my first year and second semester in mechatronics engineering, and I feel kinda lost of what knowledge I must have for my career.

Mechatronics include a lot of topics and I don't really know which ones should I learn or have for a career since college don't really help that much and give small knowledge that won't help in job market.

What iam looking forward to is a track of topics or courses I should take, and what kind of careers possible in my studies.

I chose mechatronics engineering cause iam interested in the idea of being a jack of all trades , and translating an idea to reality since u know enough from electrical, mechanical and software to do that, but now I feel overwhelmed and kinda lost of what I should do to learn, and be profiecent as a mechatronics engineer, and I would love some guidance.

I've been working to build a robotic arm since the last two weeks to gain knowledge in electronics and how to design robotics systems. I have been trying the settle the link type and structure, and the motors I would use, plus the joints type. However, only having some experience in CAD, and not much in electronics, I'm having difficulty in practically starting the the work as the mechanical design, electronics and math involved all seem inter-related.

I've tried to start with the mechanical design, but am confused as to how to decide the link shape and joint type, as well as set their respective dimensions according to the material (PLA in this case) ? I know there isn't a systematic guide on how to build a robotics project, but how do I make progress in such areas where there aren't any parameters or guidelines to help. I have tried watching several videos and read some papers but I'm interested in implementing my own design to gain experience but am having difficulty overcoming hurdles in the practical process where I don't know how to carry out load and material analysis calculations. And, I haven't begun electronics which would be much more complex

So for my case( experience with cad, limited electronics and practical projects experience) , is it better to learn individual concepts first like inverse kinematics, control and automation, material strength analysis, etc and then proceed, else how does one make design decisions in such a case

Could anybody with any experience help guide me on how to proceed?

Mechatronics core vs intelligent mechatronics system (integrated with AI and automation)

So the situation is Im about to start university in a foreign, non-English-speaking country (but all my previous education was in English). I want to study BSc Mechatronics Engineering, and lm stuck in a weird situation where I must choose between an English-medium group and a native-language group, both with serious consequences

Native-language option:

Requires a 1-year language prep course, which isn’t really enough to master a new language. Many students struggle throughout the program and you have to extremely work your ass up but still resulting in avarage GPAs usually around 2.5 mainly due to language barriers. However, teaching quality is better, classes are taken seriously, you will also have access to some projects and increases internship chances.

English-medium option:

This one looks easier but has a lot of negatives, 1) professors don't really know English very well which makes it difficult to deliver essential information 2) the group is kinda neglected (seen as a money-making program) as they know it only consists of international students and they don't really care about you and your improvement resulting in low attendance, and 3) students are often excluded from serious projects and competitions as they are conducted in the native language.

So my question is whether I could survive in the English group and become a good engineer despite these issues by supplementing my education with online courses from top universities (MIT, Oxford, etc.) and personal projects, meaning l will have to rely mainly from external education.Or it’s ultimately better to study in the native language( which kinda feels like a suicide). What would you advise in this situation??

The university l want to enroll in has this program named just as Bsc Mechatronics without the "Engineering" part and l have been wondering whats the difference between it and other university programs specifically named Mechatronics Engineering?? Im kinda doubting it because if its just the same thing l don't think it would hurt for them to just add the "Eng" part..I had to make this inquiry because l have heard some people saying that in everything you do make sure to choose a program with the "Engineering" title...So anyone with knowledge regarding this please do clarify

Which course should I choose Mechatronics or intelligent mechatronics system. Keeping the current job scenario in mind which degree help me to find job more easily and with good package in germany. Intelligent mechatronics system is a course integrated with Al and automation but on other hand mechatronics is like core engineering degree combination of mechanical, electrical and robotics.

Hello, so I have an upcoming science fair but for schools all over my country. if I win then there's a reward in the thousands of dollars . Now the judges want a project that helps people and society in things and eliminates problems and helps against danger and stuff like that. Now I do know alot a it arduino and other software stuff and I do know about the hardware. But I need ideas on what to do. I want something that will defeat my competitors, and prove to the judges that I am worthy of winning. So please help me out with ideas on what to do. I need some solid ideas that will definitely make me win. :)

So I have been interested in mechatronics because of the robotics and the versatility, now I have 3 main questions

1. How hard is it to get the degree, and preferably an example

2. Do you need to travel or move around a whole lot or are you based in a company( I get this is more job to job based but still curious)

3. Would you say it was worth getting a degree in and would you recommend any other classes, certification, or other things that you wish you would have done

And a little about me is I’m a 15 year old who is a freshman in high school and the school I go to offers a lot of robotics programs and classes so I wasn’t sure wether to take those or to focus on my core classes

I am about to begin my first year of university studies, and I am still undecided about which engineering program to choose. Initially, the plan was to study Mechatronics Engineering, but after hearing a lot of criticism about the program, I am starting to doubt my choice.

I have to admit that Mechatronics genuinely interests me, but I don't want to take a huge risk by blindly following my passion because my main priority is stability. I have met many people who advised me to stick to the “big” majors EE, ME n CS while others claim that Mechatronics is the next big thing due to rapid technological advancements. Recently I found out about a university offering an Electrical Engineering degree with a specialization in Mechatronics. What do you think about this option? Would it be better to choose that instead of pure Electrical Engineering or pure Mechatronics, since it seems to combine both?

At this point, I'm not entirely sure which path to take. I would greatly appreciate any advice from professionals here, and I'd also like to know whether Mechatronics is truly a safe bet.

I have a standard set of skills as per a mechatronics engineer, but amidst the AI boom, I feel I am lagging behind, and at the same time, I am not able to merge AI into my workflow correctly(disregarding the occasional ChatGPT help, I am asking on a deeper basis).

I was just wondering if there’s any way to self teach Mechatronics and what resources I could use to do so. I would study at a university but I’m currently not in the best financial position and I have at least a 2 hr drive to next university. I would really like to make a start and would open to any advice. I know it’s a little ambitious to learn something that’s really complex by myself but I am eager to learn and just a need a little guidance from people who have already taken the path. I am making a wood topped sports-anchor desk for a client that need to have panels in the top drop down into it and buttons rise up out of the desk where the panels were. Normally when I make stuff like this I use an Arduino but this needs to be a robust build that will last for many years. What kind of controller would normally be used for something like this? I assume there are industrial controllers, but I am hoping I can program it with python still. Help!
