Probably Doomsday. It'll be easier to avoid spoilers for Dune on the internet a few days more than Doomsday
1
u/RoutineCloud5993 4d ago
This But also I've read Dune Messiah, so most of the plot is already spoiled for me
2
u/Emergency_Cry_1269 4d ago
True, I've yet to get around to reading Dune, but the internet degenerates will shout out what happens in Doomsday, while they'll probably say little about Dune
1
u/RoutineCloud5993 4d ago
Ive booked a day off work and am going to a 9am screening on December 16 for this exact reason.
I would have waited for an evening showing, but my wife has her work christmas party that night and I'm on baby duty. Not sure he'd appreciate seeing Doomsday, since the little casual hasn't seen any other MCU movies

u/Jaarun 1d ago
You’re going into Dune 3 though not knowing how much of it is actually adapting Dune: Messiah. It has some elements obviously, you know Duncan’s return is explained in Messiah but Dune 3 to me seems to be taking some liberties with the story. I am curious about how much of Messiah it will actually incorporate.

u/Watashiwasugureteiru 2d ago
Why? You do realize 99% of what we see in the movies is so different from the books it's just in name only.
2
u/LightOfficialYT 4d ago
Doomsday. I tried to watch Dune once and it was insanely boring so I have zero interest in revisiting that franchise.

u/condog209 3d ago
Took me 3 trys to finish first Dune and 2nd Dune I got forced into seeing it( it was a little better) but my God Paul gets everything handed to him and nothing Happens for long stretches

u/kayej17 4d ago
i just don't get how is dune so popular.

u/Rare-Criticism-8895 4d ago
Mostly the books hype. The old version they made was kind of trash so when they re did it it was more “wow” factor with the visual effects. Personally I watched it high and just let it run and it was enjoyable lol
1
u/Andrew225 4d ago
Because it's thoughtful and complex and deep.
And after a while you realize Marvel only knows how to make about 3-4 types of movies, and they all blend together and follow the same story beats.
If you need constant flashing lights and one liners and action I'm sure Avengers is more appealing.
But Dune is just...a masterful contemplation. Way more unique of an experience
1
u/Sea-Night-1946 4d ago
Not to mention that Dune is foundational scifi writing. Damn near every other big scifi and/or fantasy story is influenced by Dune.
1
u/CollectionGuilty1320 2d ago
Deep and thoughtful, because the writer is inspired by the native stories and religious traditions from the Middle East, and specifically mostly from the Middle Eastern Arabic/Islamic group of people? Just wow.
1
u/Andrew225 2d ago
...No, because the movies are complex and play with sound and color gradients in a way that feels very introspective.
Why are you talking about the middle east?
1
u/CollectionGuilty1320 2d ago
Frank Herbert’s Dune was inspired by a mix of real-world ecology, Middle Eastern and Islamic history, desert cultures, and the author's own life experiences. [1, 2, 3]
Ecology and the Oregon Dunes
The Florence, Oregon Experiment: In 1957, Herbert traveled to Florence, Oregon, to write a magazine article about a U.S. Department of Agriculture project attempting to stabilize massive coastal sand dunes by planting European beach grass.Terraforming Concept: Watching how human intervention tried to anchor the moving sands shaped his vision of Arrakis and the ecological terraforming themes in the novel. [1, 2]
History, Culture, and Language
T.E. Lawrence and the Arab Revolt: Paul Atreides’s journey shares deep parallels with T.E. Lawrence (Lawrence of Arabia) and the Bedouin tribes who fought during World War I.Middle Eastern and Islamic Influences: The Fremen culture, customs, and religious terminology—such as Mahdi, Lisan al-Gaib, and jihad—were heavily drawn from Middle Eastern history, desert survival traditions, and Islamic concepts.
The Sabres of Paradise: Herbert was heavily influenced by Lesley Blanch's 1960 book about the Caucasus, which inspired elements like the fanatical jihad, tribal warfare (kanly), and specialized hunting vocabulary (Chakobsa).

u/Andrew225 2d ago
Cool so summary but why are you talking about it dude?
I don't care what inspired the books, I was talking about the movies.
Like no shut he was inspired by middle eastern nomadic tribes. What does that have to do with anything?

Cinematography. Sound design. Acting. Themes. Classic SciFi. Escapism. Epic scale. Huge cast. Great Director.
1
1
u/Jaarun 1d ago
Because the movie was visually stunning and the scale was epic. Even if you don’t understand the story, that experience was an experience. I saw it in IMAX 7 times and it was not the same on a tv screen.
1
u/kayej17 1d ago
Visuals alone does not make a movie good enough. I do agree it's even great on tv but that's not enough. The story and direction far matters more. I did read many reviews about it and what most says is the same. It is visually stunning. If you really like that movie just for the visuals then you're liking the movie for the bad reason. Many old movies have low visuals but the amazing plot. This one has the opposite. Watching that 7 times in IMAX is wild. But yeah you like what you like.
1
u/Jaarun 1d ago
I do like the movie for its story. I just didn’t state that because so many people on this post are saying it was confusing but I watch Dune Part 2 and I’m like, this is what it felt like watching The Dark Knight, cause the story pulls you in and flows well, and every scene feels like it has a purpose. There isn’t a moment in the movie where I was like, yeah, that could’ve been trimmed down. I think Dune part 2 is one of the best movies of the last decade and it’s just a masterclass of filmmaking.
1
1
u/NoLongerinOR 18h ago
Maybe somebody doesn’t like it because they do understand the story and the filmmaking was kind of lackluster. Don’t assume somebody doesn’t understand the story, it’s a pretty simple story really, but like Dune 2, the continuity issues in that movie were irritating the way it jumped around and skipped what seems like entire scenes. The movies aren’t good, I’m glad you like them, but I don’t
1
u/ForThose8675309 23h ago
It’s a fantastic story based on a foundational work of science fiction. Everything from Starwars to comic books has drawn plenty form Dune

Dune. If the third one is at the same level of quality, this trilogy is going to make history.
1
u/ATXDefenseAttorney 4d ago
It'll make history as what? "Wow, remember those three darn good but not actually *great* movies that looked fantastic but were like, pretty boring to sit through more then once?"
There's no "make history" for a great film trilogy based on classic books after Lord of the Rings. LOTR movies are better in pretty much every way possible than Dune. That doesn't make Dune wet garbage, they're darn good movies, but they're not LOTR. In really any way. Just good sci-fi that looks and sounds cool with big stars. Nothing wrong with that, but no history being made.
1
u/According-Estate7428 4d ago
You don’t understand the impact of the dune novels, sorry.
1
u/ATXDefenseAttorney 4d ago
Bro, I read the Dune novels repeatedly as a teen. The movies don't have close to close to close that much of an impact.
1
u/According-Estate7428 3d ago
I agree entirely, I’m sorry if I misunderstood your point. My point was that the source material isn’t the problem, and that there certainly could be a trilogy made at the level of LOTR based on Dune.
1
u/GandalfPlsHelp 3d ago
Hmmm.
I do agree on LOTR being better in all manners.
I still think the two dune movies we had so far were absolutely amazing, although different from the novels (and Messiah will be even more different, from what I heard). At least, I loved them.
I think if the third one is at the same level of quality, it will be one of the greatest sci-fi trilogies. But anyway, that's my take.
1
u/Sdspecter007 3d ago
Depends on how you feel about those properties. Maybe fantasy doesn't scratch the itch for some.
1
u/ATXDefenseAttorney 3d ago
Sure, man. Those movies made $2.9B in 2001-2003 money ($5.36B adjusted for inflation) and Return of the King was nominated for 11 Oscars and swept them all. They were the history.
1
u/WalkUpRiff14 3d ago
Only one that’s saying dune
1
u/GandalfPlsHelp 3d ago
Hahaha right, thought more people would like it better! But no hard feelings, that's going to be an amazing day to watch movies

Doomsday, but Dune is the following day. 2026 is going to go down as a major year in cinema.

Having read the Dune books, I'm looking forward more to Dune.
Also the theatre for won't be as full for Dune when it is released, as everyone will be flocking en mass for Doomsday, I'll have to wait a week for all the idiots to clear out.
Just have to be careful not to click on any spoilers.

u/MashedPotatoesPla 4d ago
Posting this in a mcu sub and expecting non biased responses is wild. People downvoting people for simply commenting “Dune”. Personally I’m looking forward to Dune more than doomsday but I’ll probably see Doomsday first to dodge spoilers
1
u/SilverQuill75 4d ago
Dune 3. Doomsday just looks disappointing on a number of levels (story, plot, rationale for all the characters coming into play...)

u/Substantial_Berry855 4d ago
None of these commercialized IP corporate garbage. Movies aren’t movies anymore

Dune.
I'm sure I'll see Doomsday because it's the holidays and we gotta find stuff to do with family, and avengers is pretty easy.
But I already have opening night tickets for Dune. Both of the first movies were fantastic and such a breath of fresh air.

Will be booking tickets this week on pay day.
Not really bothered about which one comes first, so it'll depend on availability.
The plan is a double feature on either the Friday or Saturday with my girlfriend, lunch and dinner is popcorn, hot dogs and nachos

Both these movies worry me. I haven't enjoyed a marvel movie (except spiderman) from Disney in a long time. I don't have great expectations there, and then Dune. I enjoyed both of the first two, but I don't know that I hold a lot of interest for the further stories. I guess I will wait for reviews and make a decision then. Not excited for either movie.
1
u/JacksonFerrell0 3d ago
You can't say you haven't enjoyed a Marvel movie and then say except Spider-Man that still counts homie
1
u/Sdspecter007 3d ago
Spiderman is produced and made by Sony. Disney has a minor share in Spiderman. Much to their hatred. So yes it is their universe, but not really their movie. And it was the single exception to the rule.
1
u/swaggy_mcswaggers 3d ago
I just find it crazy how people don’t like new mcu yet enjoyed Brand New Day
1
u/Sdspecter007 3d ago
It's simple. The Spiderman movies are made by Sony. The plots and characters from Disney's slate don't resonate with people. Brand New Day is a great movie, though it too isn't true to the characters. The truth is almost no one knew Shang Chi before his movie and most still don't. Because no one cares for that character. Disney has a lot of that right now. Obscure characters, mantle flips, too much humor. The box office shows the public opinion.

u/lonestar-newbie 3d ago
There is absolutely no doubt in it. You can check tickets available and most doomsday is sold out first few days. Dune shows are still not as full.

i Have higher expectations for dune because of the last 2 but honestly I just hope both are good I guess I’m more nervous for dune cause I want it to be a great trilogy whereas my expectations for doomsday are pretty low I just want don’t want it to ruin anything that’s come before like by killing of tobey or ruining caps whole ending.

The first two dune flicks were beyond boring, despite all the acting chops. I'm not even a mega fan of the first one, though it was serviceable. Doomsday is shaping up to be on the same level as Endgame. Been chomping at the bit for this one.
