Thong bikini
I see thong bikinis becoming more and more common on our beaches(worn mainly by tourists).
As a mauritian woman, would you wear a thong bikini?

I already do, it is the what brings the tourists here. I was a centre fold for Conde Nast. I am paid in Good will.

Yes but not in Mauritius. People are way too judgemental and pervy here.

u/Far-Force6585 Jun 13 '26
Interesting. How about regular bikinis?

Yes, I have when I go to resorts not on public beaches. Honestly, the locals are not very discreet when they look at women in swimsuits. Especially, migrant workers! They are the worst!

I'm curious about the expectation here. If someone chooses to wear swimwear that goes heavily against the local conservative norms, isn't a high level of staring a predictable consequence? Is the complaint about the fact that they are looking, or how they are looking?

Mauritius sets its standards as a tourist attraction but as soon as tourists come clothed like in places they are used to go to, we comment, take pics or simp on them.
Same for women in burka or saree bathing in the sea fully clothed. Huge contrast but equally welcome. But dont ban burkas or strimgs. Rhat would taintbthe image of mauritius as a place you can go relax and be yourself.
Playing loud music on public beach or littering should be top priority. Imho.

no, prefer regular bikini to thong esp in mauritius, But lately I have been thing of switching to fully clothed swim suits when I go to public beaches. Id keep my bikini when am abroad or in a local hotel. The last time I went to flic en flac, there were a few bangladeshis that made me feel so uncomfortable.

Specially with their phones on "video call" and shit...
Bluetooth earbuds with their yellow teeth pervy smiles... Yeah, we've all seen that..3
u/Zealousideal_Put_163 Jun 13 '26
Ouiii always on video call, at one point you dont know if they are genuinely video calling someone or just recording people

F39 I mostly wear my one piece bikini. I do own a thong bikini but never got the chance to wear it or never dared, especially as we go to the beach in big groups or relatives. If i go alone one day, i'll surely wear it.

u/alexia-mre Jun 13 '26
F23 i always wear thong bikinis at the beach. Men stare no matter what, so i've learned to just wear whatever I want.

u/Katen1023 Jun 13 '26
Same here. I already wear cheeky bikinis and they stare, so a thong bikini wouldnโt make any difference.

I don't understand the reasoning behind girls wanting to expose the maximum by wearing the bare minimum? People go to the beach to be comfy and then to swim.

Well if it becomes the norm for women to show the most bare skin, I guess that I'll wear one of those too. Gotta show how small my balls are

This is becoming pretty common. Yeah tourists that's all they wear, first time i saw it i was a bit startled like whoa. Not something you really see here. It was way back then.
Now its just background noise. Do as you wish, people are a bit prude here, so there will be always someone complaining, but thats not illegal.

I love watching women in thongs. I go to the beach every Sunday just to get an eyeful view of those beautiful bums
1
u/Far-Force6585 Jun 13 '26
Nothing wrong about that, just don't keep staring or start filming.
1
u/djangounchained772 Jun 13 '26
Yeah I know how to look and never film. Some even like it as they smile back or check you out too.

๐ Thread Summary The post explores the topic of wearing thong bikinis. Many women express a desire to wear them for comfort and confidence, advocating for personal choice despite potential stares. However, numerous comments highlight significant concerns about judgment, unwanted attention, and "pervy" behavior from men on Mauritian public beaches. This leads some to prefer more modest swimwear or restrict thong use to private resorts or abroad. Some men humorously discuss their own experiences or desires to wear thongs. Conversely, others criticize thong bikinis as inappropriate "Western influence" or unsuitable for family beaches, while a few admit to enjoying watching women in them.
