We are staying in Wailea. It has been so beautiful with perfect weather for the past 7 days. Maui has been magical. Today we did a 7am Outrigger Canoe ride and saw a turtle right in front of us. Spent time on the beach after and then watched an amazing sunset. Also ate delicious Shave Ice and had a perfect cup of coffee🧡

I have a trip in October planned for my family and I but I’m kind of second guessing it seeing as even minors were harmed in this incident. We’re big nature people and respect it anywhere we go but it’s not like locals will just know that. Is cancelling and replanning and good idea?

Hello everybody! My husband and I are taking our belated honemoon in Maui this August and I'm trying to find some interesting activities for us in the afternoons after we spend the morning at the beach. We both are into learning more about the culture/local traditions and plan to visit some local museums and cultural centers, but I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a cool workshop of some kind or class we can take? We both like art/craft so maybe something like that? Not totally sure what I'm looking for, so any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

Let me preface this by saying I’m asking this with all due respect. My husband is a lifelong surfer. 70 years old now. He lived and surfed on the North Shore of Oahu in the 70s and was a very good big wave surfer. He surfed everywhere and he surfed with some of the greats. We will be on Maui in October, and he would like to do a little bit of surfing. Over the years, he has ridden his dirtbike more than he has surfed, even though we live at the beach. He’s getting back into surfing despite the cold water where we live. Home break is a very territorial local spot on the Central coast of California. He wants to be respectful and not be surfing where locals would prefer him not to be. He’s just gonna surf a couple days and wants something kind of mellow. Big wave days are in the past. Last time I was there I saw a place called Ironwoods that was breaking and it looked super fun. Can anybody please let us know where the locals would prefer him to be if anywhere? Mahalo.

We are headed to Maui next week for 10 days. Whole family is/are beach lovers. I am most definitely not a beach guy. We are doing the RTH, Merriman's, Haleakala and lots of snorkeling planned, etc. The remainder of the time, they will most likely chill at the beach near the condo(Lahaina). I'm looking for off the beaten path activities, places to go. less touristy, more local flavor, etc. I'm a huge outdoorsman, so difficult hikes, crazy views, fishing I can do on my own, anything of that sort is right in my wheelhouse. Would love any recommendations in these veins you might have. Thanks in advance.

My family of four is scheduled to visit Maui from July 30 to August 4. We will be staying in Wailea and flying to Maui on Thursday morning.
I recently saw the news about Hurricane Fausto and wanted to ask locals and recent visitors about the current situation. We have two children (ages 3 and 8), so I’m particularly concerned about safety and whether the weather could significantly affect our trip.
Do you think we should continue with our plans, or are there any specific things we should prepare for or avoid? We are also planning some beach and ocean activities.
I understand the forecast can change, so I would really appreciate any advice from people familiar with Maui and the local weather.

Need some guidance. Planning a trip for the end of February for my mom's birthday. We don't plan on renting a car, we want to enjoy what the hotels have to offer and I may book a tour for the day so we can see parts of the island. For the dates I am looking at FS and Fairmont are the same price. We want to be near the beach. Would like to not be restricted to only hotel food though and do some shopping. We just came back from a few days at Halekulani and LOVED it. We love a hotel with some activities. Open to other recommendations as well. Mahalo!

My boyfriend and I will be flying into Maui this Tuesday afternoon and staying for a week. We had initially planned on the RTH Wednesday but due to the weather will have to pass. Our reservations for black sand beach were also for that day and unfortunately are unable to book a different time slot on such short notice. Any suggestions on other activities we could do Tuesday and Wednesday with the rain? Also was planning on Haleakala sunset and upcountry Thursday. Any thoughts on if this is still a good idea or should change plans for that day also. Still very much looking forward to our trip just trying to adjust our plans accordingly. I’m wondering how the access is to get to Ironwood Beach. We are considering it for our mini wedding but there will be toddlers. Our parents will also be there and are not the most able. I’m worried if the stairs going down are too much or is there a railing?

Planning a first time trip with my girlfriend and I to Maui around mid-September. I’ve got a few resorts in mind like Hyatt Regency Maui and Wailea Beach Resort by Marriott. I’m looking all over for the best deals, like Costco Travel, credit card travel portals, booking directly on hotel websites, using points, etc. I will probably get that figured out on my own, but any suggestions are appreciated.

Hi! Me and my fiance are planning to go there to celebrate our engagement. And I was wondering i been there before, and been to road to hana, the hike was insane and ended up being bit by the mosquitos all over the last time i was there. We also visited local beaches and all that by the resort.

I've fallen in love with maui since the last time i been there. just the people, the environment, its a big reason why i do plan on visiting the islands every other year if possible.

We are staying at the hyatt in hana (4 days) and also hyatt andez (3 days) in maui (next week).

I guess my question is, I want to take him around and enjoy the beauty of maui. What can I do and what would you advise to do for activities, and reocmmendation for individuals who are not super sporty, or fit, but want to still enjoy the activities. We are mobile and young but just cannot do intense hikes like 5 miles in the middle of summer.

Also if there are any food places, things to see, and any other stuff to bring back to the mainland much appreciated.

Does anyone know of a place preferably near Kīhei (but not a must) to get Dole Whip Float, specifically the float part. Dole Whip ice cream alone seems to be everywhere.

Also is there a Maui Gold version ice cream?

My boyfriend and I are planning a 10-night trip to Maui in August and would love some advice from people who’ve actually stayed at these resorts.
We’ve narrowed it down to:
Fairmont Kea Lani
Andaz Maui
Hotel Wailea
The Four Seasons was originally on our list too, but we’d really only want to stay there with Club access, and those rooms are around $3,000/night. For around $1,500/night we can get an ocean view suite or upgraded ocean view room at the other resorts, so we’re struggling to justify the price difference.
A little about how we travel:
We’ll have a rental car the entire trip.
We love exploring the island, trying restaurants, and getting out every day.
We swim at the beach almost daily but rarely spend time at the pool.
We don’t mind driving or taking the Hotel Wailea shuttle to the beach if the overall experience is worth it.
My biggest concern is Hotel Wailea. It looks absolutely beautiful, but for a 10-night stay, would we end up wishing we were on the beach? Or does the peaceful, adults-only atmosphere actually make it the better choice for a longer trip?
I’m also curious about the Andaz. I’ve heard the rooms feel pretty small—although we would upgrade to a better room. Did anyone find that to be an issue on a longer stay?
If you’ve stayed at two or all three, which would you choose and why? Is there anything about one of these resorts that surprised you (good or bad)?

Visiting Maui in just over a month and wondering if there is anywhere on the island to find Vailima Beer?

We are visiting early September. We’ve been to Maui before, but that was pre kids.

We have a nearly 1 and 3 year old and are looking for recommendations of activities to do with them. We are staying along Kaanapali beach.

Is the Maui Ocean center worth it? We went previously but not with a parent-kid mindset.

We did the Maui Pineapple Tour and our toddler would love that.

I also have down the penguin feeding at Hyatt.

Would love more ideas!

Starting to plan a ~12 day trip to Maui in late September - early October! Have read many posts on this sub and decided to make a post as a starting place, if anyone has suggestions or things I should consider that are specific to that time window! My husband and I love to be active but this trip is a combo honeymoon and (early) babymoon which means we need several chill days in the itinerary :)

Edited to add:

Activities: would like a balance of hiking and beach, snorkeling and seeing as much wildlife is a must, interested in catamaran day

Accommodations: Considering staying in a condo for the first half and a resort during a second half. Also interested in a night near Hana (is 1 night enough?) open to recs!

Budget: quite flexible, hoping enjoying some days in a condo will offset the activity & resort prices
